From an experienced GM mechanic, they also have issues with fuel pressure regulators in the spider assembly and distributors going bad. Hope this helps a little. Nicely done.
We never get vans like this here in the UK and only wish we could, many Americans don't rate V6 engines but they are really popular here, I have a very rare Welsh made sports car called a GILBERN INVADER MK3 and it has a 3litre V6 ford engine and it's a fibreglass body and I have a performance camshaft in it and it's a fast car, look one up on UA-cam if you want Mark.
Well done! You have a much better understanding of more modern auto systems than me. I’m ok with the really old stuff using carburettors, but then I’m not, and never have been, a professional mechanic.
Great find, Mark. Can't believe how well the bodywork looks for a car that's nearly a quarter of a century old. I'm jealous of your weather, it's still wet, cold and windy here in Ireland.
They eat cap and rotors when the distributor body wears and the shaft jacks up. I’ve had both Vortec V6s and V8s do that, typically over 100k miles. Replace distributor, cap will last 100k miles, pretty much until it needs a new distributor. Yes, K&Ns you have to clean the MAF frequently. Not worth it, plus they allow microabrasives in.

Nice work! Great to see proper diagnosis done using the tools at hand and the experience with automotive systems. Have a great day everyone!

Great diagnosis! Thanks for the tips on how you found it.
Thanks for the info!

I know people hate computers but ODBII makes diagnostic easier. Real time data it's a treasure. And still you can't beat experience :)
Totaly agree. As a shade tree mechanic, I don't have to throw parts at a car, a scanner will tell me exatly what is wrong.
Why I don't like K&N filters.
I thought these things had distributorless ignition systems!
He needs to put this on Apple Music 🤧
