Excellent! Packed with info. No nonsense 6 minutes! It doesn't get better. I see you have these kind of videos for the other planes as well and that will be handy later on. Subscribed!
Thank you subscribing. I have a new video coming out tonight more than likely. All my videos are to the point. I am like everyone else. Gets on youtube to find out how to fix something that takes 2 minutes to fix... finds 2 hour long video on how to fix something. 45 minutes later I find it. Nothing is worse than an hour long video on how to do an ILS approach that starts with a cold and dark airplane.
I had a guy at a hobby shop tell me he was so good at RC helicopters that he could fly a real one for sure. I told him he'd fail miserably and die if he ever attempted it. This would have the same result but I know you are kidding. It's crazy how different a simulator flies compared to a real aircraft. Even an FAA approved simulator flies differently than the airplane it replicates. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@thecorporatepilotdad I've got a few hours in a 152. Consider me the Doug White of the West if you ever need me. =) Thanks again for the content man much appreciated! Subscribed!
If the airplane can do either the better approach is the one that takes you the lowest. If they're the same decision height, then the RNAV because in real life when you do the missed approach, the NAV source doesn't have to be switched from NAV to FMS since it's already in FMS mode. Less workload.
Great video, I have been flying ILS approaches whenever I can instead of RNAs. It seems like RNAV approaches are still messed up and incorrect. In order to get to your pizza fix, you had to fly that annoying arc that shouldn't be there. Even if you go direct to Pizza, it will turn you right around after pizza and start the approach all over again. Have you found a workaround for this?
Yes, but it doesn't seem to work in all airplanes. I have an RNAV Approach video in the Bonanza and shows more on the RNAV. I have been able to go direct to fixes and habe it ingore the big teardrop it makes. You can always send the GPS direct to the IAF and it might get rid of the big arc. Fs2020 is so buggy it's not even funny.
@@thecorporatepilotdad I agree, I have been more frustrated with this sim the more I see what it can't do. The news about the Garmin system update, which won't release till February 2021 is frustrating too. I don't know If you have flown the Longitude since the last update, but you also can't fly above FL350 without the aircraft constantly rolling. Any other aircraft you might recommend that arent as broken?
@@adamryerse1828 I did a video on when to start a descent and used the Longitude and I did notice the rolling. But realistic at all. It makes a person wonder if they even test updates before releasing them. They sold this game solely on graphics and charged through the nose for it. I recommend any of the piston engine airplanes. I prefer the Bonanza and the Baron but the mixture control is the Baron doesn't work. You can't lean it a little. It's either set perfectly regardless of position or off.
The weights have to be set up in the FMS along with flap settings and then speeds will be populated. The same is true for takeoff and landing. I do have a video series on the Longitude. There are 4 videos that cover a whole flight all the way to landing and even how to do a go-around and missed approach. Interesting to see how you arm approach mode also when doing an RNAV approach. I always coupled pressing APP with ILS approaches but I realize how pressing the APP button simply is to prepare the aircraft for approach mode. Regardless if you're shooting an ILS or in this case RNAV approach 👍
Approach and VNAV are usually selected on an RNAV approach when flown to LPV minimums. At that time, the default Longitude did not have that functionality. By the way, nice to see a comment from you. It has been a while.

Cheers buddy, been quite busy with life in general lately but hope to have more time to enjoy this great hobby going forward. Also, a good friend of mine has started to pick up an interest for flight sim as well which is great fun! So doing my best to share my knowledge with him and pointing him in the right direction. Where clips such as yours are a great source 👍 Have a good weekend ahead!
This is so great. Thank you for posting these. I've been really determined to learn the longitude, and your videos have been really educational. When during the approach do you disconnect the auto throttle? Do you recommend using auto throttle on manual or fms mode? Lastly, to the untrained eye, it seems like RNAV and ILS procedures in the longitude are quite similar, except that for RNAV you don't need to punch in the localizer frequency. I had been under the impression RNAV would not manage altitude for you; is that airport dependent?
Disconnecting the auto throttle is up to you. I fly a jet with auto throttle but I do not fly the Longitude. I will use manual throttle most of the time. In the game, I would turn it off when I see the runway but soon enough to also be able to turn it off as to not be doing it too close to the ground to have it be distracting. I'm sure there are other schools of thought on that. RNAV with LNAV or LPV and ILS are similar. RNAV is now GPS based and ILS is ground based. In jets I fly you can put in the alitude at the final approach fix and press VNAV and the AP will hit the step down altitudes. FS2020s VNAV function does not work - so far. The FMS in the longitude also shows Vx Vr and Vy under performance. Jets like these use V1 Vr and V2 for takeoff and Vapp and Vref for landing. There are some fixes that need to be made.
@@thecorporatepilotdad thanks, this is really helpful too! I've been sort of tending to disconnect the auto throttle as I activate approach mode. Your explanation of RNAV VS ILS is the clearest I've ever understood. I really hope they fix the Vnav sometime soon.
