21:11 the controller board can be re-configured to match the difference of the Mitsumi mech erase coil, from the other two brands of single-side mech (with different latch).

You should have checked the alignment first before taking it all apart. Never take the mechanism apart if it is not out of alignment.

      That is very true!!

It is not the resistor that has failed, it is the coil.

    Nice looking drive.
I hope you are recovering O.K. from your operation.

Just today, July 25, my 1541c failed, it turns on and the red light does not turn off and does not stop spinning, I hope it has a solution and, above all, spare parts.

Why can't they read the data off the disc using a laser and also using the laser to raise the spot that you want to write to to it's curie point at which point a large coil with 20 turns will write the required spot before it cools down like a MO drive.

can the MOS chips be implemented in FPGA chips as the old MOS chips seem to degrade over time.

The PLA, VIC II and CIAs are available as FPGAs. Others like ROM chips etc. are just data storage so EPROMS are the way to go here. Perifractic made a video about a C64 with just new parts.

Isn't it the 74LS06 chip that's know to fail?
Edit: I should have waited a bit longer. :)

@@RetroWK That should be "known" on my end. And that chip that you showed is a high voltage open collector job. Interesting.
So I got to thinking (dangerous, I know). Could one of those flux boards for reading/writing floppies be put to good use here? Create a floppy with a few tracks, not many, and then read the location of the tracks with the flux board and then use it again as a guide for aligning the out of alignment head. Also, I would think that a set of calipers measuring a known good one and using those numbers to set the bad one would get you close.

@@MrWaalkman hehe! check out next sundays video. I think someone found a simpler way to adjust the head. Let me know, what you think, when you spot it!
