Very timely video. just sold my Pocket and ordered a Action with a Hohem iSteady Pro, benefit, still have the use of a gimbal but i can now mount the action on my motorcycle helmet . The Pocket was a monstrosity mounted on my helmet . Now have best of both worlds
There are considerable applications that the gimbal enhances operation with the Osmo Action WITHOUT internal stabilization. Specifically for shooting HDR (Internal stabilization not available in that mode), as well as manual exposure using ND filters and eliminating the artifacts that often appear with stabilization mode active. I love it for stationary vlogging on scene as well. For serious action sports and activities, I agree with your assessment that dual stabilization is better, but there ARE applications where the internal stabilization can be turned off, or is not available, and that is where the Hohem REALLY shines.
Hi Arthur. In order to prevent the Osmo action picking up any motor noise I mount my Action upside down. It also helps with the balance & the motors don't have to work so hard. Thanks for the video.
PS: It seems it is VERY important difference if one uses GoPro or Osmo Action. Gimbal is perfectly balanced for GoPro, while not at all for Osmo Action. This changes the outcome totally. On GoPro there is little to none "abrupt moves" in the footage, but while using no-nbalanced camera motor constantly try to correct position and footage is jittery. I would try to counter-weight the camera with some coins if it helps balancing the camera.
Hi Arthur, I've recently started watching your videos after buying a6000. Keep it up. Your wife is beautiful btw :). How about reviewing p30 pro? Kamran.
Hey dude, love your videos! are you able to do some reviews on the Voigtlander E-Mount stuff? I just got a 35mm 1.4 and would love to know your thoughts
Footage looks jittery, not sure if it's cause you used a diff frame rate, but the Rock Steady is way smoother than this gimbal if it's not the frame rate problem.
Thank you for the realistic pros and cons! Just as friendly request, It would have been too easy to see a side-by-side video with the videos showing the gimbal with the hero related to EIS OFF and ON. And as a suggestion, can you review the Hohem with a generic Action Camera that has a 620 snap dragon processor?
According to those guys who make lens for smartphones which make phone gimbals can’t balance, you can add counter weight to the opposite side of the axis to make it balance. Hope it will work.
Great video, Arthur! Could you made a video to review the SEL 18-200 lens. I've watched some review video but none of them review as the awesome way as you do. Looking to view your video. :)
Maybe the Osmo Pocket would fit your needs as young family much better because you can always carry it with you? I am very impressed - it's a small game changer for us - maybe you get the chance to give it a try :-)
I have the FeiyuTech G6, pretty decent gimbal for a GoPro. But since DJI Osmo Pocket exists, these things became obsolete. I would rather buy an Osmo Action AND the Pocket because then you have two different cameras with very different optics.
works well with the Osmo aCtion but the motion lapse always freezes on the first attempt, have to shut off gimbal and phone app, then restart and it works (android)
Did you calibrate the gimbal with you dji cam before filming with it? I am looking at one of these gimbals, as l think they represent excellent value; unlike anything from the likes of dji. DJI is too much like apple and customer service sucks in my opinion.
The problem with it, is you can't put the cage to mount an external mic as the bar that holds the action camera on, gets in the way. If you use your action camera as a run and gun vlogging setup (like I would) this is useless and it's best to just get a "selfie stick" to attach the cage to.
Interesting, gimbal footage in this video is at level that I can get without any IS in camera, with bare hands. Other reviewers get almost perfect footage out from this gimbal (without camera IS used). As always gyro gimbals only perform as good as operators hands, since they are already part of the system. Seasoned videographers that had to make usable footage from all sort of cameras in era prior to modern electronic gyro stabilisation aids, we need just a little help to get totally smooth footage from anything, since already our hands make 90% perfect pan or slide. But youngsters that wander around with cameras careless need the best devices to make footage usable at all :)
Good review Arthur. The results in your video were pretty bad overall. I'm betting you'd get similar results with Action doing stabilized no gimbal. Very cute baby!
i love this gimbal i have this for almost a month now! worth every penny!

The gimbal is balanced by sliding the camera forth and back in the bracket.

Hi .. is there a way to slap a normal base plate on it ? Would like to keep my osmo in the cage and the mic on top .. thx

don't have this but am very interested in purchasing ...
Hey Arthur!! Please do a comparison between Sigma 16mm and Rokinon 12mm for landscape and/or astro for alpha series pleaseeeeeeeeee :)
Super video man
Costco!!! You can definitely see those jitters.
Haven't you tried shooting 4K60p with the gimbal? It will be a bit shaky but perhaps when playing back at 30p it will be ok

Can it charge gopro hero 6 while on the go? Doesnt it get in the way?
Can this be used with the Sony FDR X3000 Action cam?

Please do a video on how to shoot smooth video. Also on post processing for photos
well done, thumb(s) UP!
That’s great news. Just ordered one for my first gimbal. Glad to hear it is a good value for the money. I can’t wait to start shooting with it.

is this good for pictures, or is this only for video?

Thanks bro, was sceptical but it's true. Pint is on it's way :)
Hello Ita possible to use this gimbal with Sony @6000?
Yeah, I second that; if it's just for one of those small action cams I'm not particularly interested.
no, the max payload of this gimbal is 240G
cool
Whose this ARTHUR R guy? Can't be better than Techno Buffalo that's for sure! j.k
It was techno mafia, not buffalo. Haha
