    The topiaries are adorable! I think your yard is so beautiful, it’s small enough to be relatable to the average gardener and still had so many areas of interest and joy! Please don’t be worried about how often you post... life beyond videos is important too! 🌸🇨🇦

      Do you just buy a small Myrtle shrub and trim into a topiary?

    Laura, my garden is a bust this season. I am going g to have some major clean up when it finally cools off this Fall. Deer and Squirrels wreaked havoc on the plants and the rest were taken by the heat and Japanese Beedles 😩 oh and did I mention the weeds that are as tall as my shrubs 😂. Anyway, I’m looking forward to an new start!

    Everything looks beautiful, Laura. I agree about that type of sorrel. I was just pulling it out between my bricks of my courtyard. Royal pain in the rear because its blending with my blue star creeper and elfin thyme. Ugh.
    The zinnias and dalias are absolutely gorgeous and I adore the myrtle topiaries. I so wish I had a huge full sun area. 😕 Instead, I'll enjoy yours!🥰

    Hey, for the myrtle topiaries check your local Home Depot, I also reside in NJ and I found a few small like yours at $7 and about 2’ tall for $14. By the way I really love how yours look

      Thank you! I think they might be Eugenia topiary? They are similar, but bigger foliage. I’ve seen those at Home Depot. I wish I saw myrtles at HD here. If you did, you really lucked out. 💜 Thank you!

      Thanks! This variety is mildew resistent. I usually try and plant varieties that are. It can get pretty icky here with the humidity, these don’t get phased.

    • @HowsItGrowing
      @HowsItGrowing  Рік тому

      Thank you so much! Well, I’ve been gardening here for 20 years. But most of these gardens I’ve completely redone over the past 3 years. This year I put the raised beds by the greenhouse, made the boxwood area with the geraniums, and the patio garden. It all fills in quickly. 💜

    No weeds? Looks great what’s your secret? Have you been staying on top of them all summer? I’m in Northern NJ and with all the rain the weeds are atrocious!!!

    • @HowsItGrowing
      @HowsItGrowing  Рік тому

      I really focused on the back yard. The front was horrendous with weeds. Since they were a lot of new beds in the back, not too bad with weeds this year. Lots of purslane and nutsedge. I pull it every day, maybe 5-10 min looking around.

    • @HowsItGrowing
      @HowsItGrowing  Рік тому

      It’s really good! This is mealy cup sage and it is biennial to zone 7. I’ve had it come back in other areas, and I hope it will here. I’ll definitely plant it again if it doesn’t. Months and months of flowers. 💜

    love the zinnias… mine ALWAYS get eaten … how do you control that?

    • @HowsItGrowing
      @HowsItGrowing  Рік тому

      I do get some bunnies munching on my tall ones. The short ones they haven’t touched. I think covering with a cloche helps as they are growing. I do sometimes sprinkle cayenne pepper around the perimeter. Mostly to ward off squirrels but it helps I think. But then you have to keep reapplying after rain, and it looks kinda ugly. 😩 It’s a losing battle sometimes.

      @@HowsItGrowing the other issue is some kind of bug eating the leaves. i think next year i will use neem oil. zinnias were my favorite but this year i gave up. i just bought seeds for this variety. thank you! you inspire me😊

      I was wondering if you ever used TOPBUXUS for your boxwood? I heard about this product last month and I started using it on my 15 years old boxwoods that are not looking good because I neglected them, It's a little late in the season but I would like to know if you or someone used that product.
