    First of all, congratulations to you and your wife and all the best for the young family! In the meantime in fishing holidays, I caught my PB pike with 105 cm! Really tried hard with your recommended 12 cm shads - very much appreciate your professional tips - but, may I say it, managed it with a 15 cm Replicant in pike pattern and a light rod 10 - 50 cm in 2,40 m. That was a recommendation of your excellent partner, He calls it „Finesse Pike Fishing“. Many dear greetings to Kev Cox. Both of you are great and I continue to listen to you with pleasure!

    One of my fave rods is a 15-50gr rod,4000 reel, 30lb braid, you can fish with it forever its so light, i use mine for shadteez 16 and 4plays, fish to 21 on that rod, playing them on it is fun but its strong enough to be able to have control.

    Excellent video, thanks Thom! I appreciate that you give tips on how to reduce mortality of released fish, thank you for that as well. Regarding orange versus white bellies on lures, I agree - for lures above the fish in the water, that is a key point.

    Thanks for the video Thom, great information as always. I never knew there was a 12 cm slim shadteez, and as it happens that’s the exact size I felt was missing for the Rutland Zander fishing vertically. 10 was a bit small, 14 too big, and the regular 12cm deep body shadteez no good for that application with slow movement. Niche filled.
    Thanks again.

      Yes, in fact I attempted doing one on the water today at Pitsford but only
      Managed 2 small pike so wasn’t very entertaining!

    Congrats on the new arrival. Out of interest - do you crush your treble’s barbs on the cranks you are using in the video. Had a horrendous hook up on a pike that engulfed a 5cm crank while searching out chub on an ultra light setup. Hooked laterally across the gills. Felt so sorry for this beautiful small (2-3lb) pike that I’ve switched my small cranks over to in-line singles. Wondered what you’re thoughts were in the summer when pike - even small ones - take smaller cranks right down.

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  3 роки тому

      I’ve only ever had 1 deep hooked pike on a crank, and quickly cut the treble off the crank and then was way easier to remove with forceps. I’ve never tried singles on cranks but know a lot of chaps do. Let me know how you get on with the singles and if hook up rate is still good, I may give it a go myself

    Congrats man. He will keep you busy. Thought a pike had got to you 😂😂 keep the vids coming.
    I'm new at lure fishing and have a light 5-15g 1000 set up for canals. What set up would you recommend for them canal pike and then for smallish still water and rivers
    Cheers

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  3 роки тому +1

      Most canal pike are in the 1-8lb bracket so don’t need big lures…. The same for small rivers and still waters so I’d concentrate on 4” lures (10-12cm) and a rod around 10-30g or 10-40g something like that 👍🏻
