  • This week I'm tufting one of those fancy rug mirrors I keep seeing on TikTok! Aren't they so cool? Rug tufting is such an amazing medium and it's so much fun to see the different things you can make with it!
    The best thing about this is that I was able to make this rug mirror using a scrap of primary backing cloth that wouldnt fit on my larger frames by using my MINIATURE TUFTING FRAME! Isn't it so cute?! This 14in frame is just what you need to make use of those scraps of backing fabric you have piling up.
    It's also great if you're running a rug tufting business, like me and make smaller pieces. With this you don't have to wait for a bunch of orders to come in to fill a larger frame! It's much easier and faster to make one offs.
    If you liked my take on tufted mirrors and would like to support me and my channel they're available right now at sammadethat.com !

      Is there any other way aside from gluing the tufted material?

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  3 роки тому

      I used double sided interfacing in my very first video where I made tufted pillows! Other than that and glueing them I don't currently know of any other way to ensure that the yarn stays in the backing fabric. You might be able to get away with it if it's just for wall display but I wouldn't recommend making a floor rug that wasn't glued.

    Love this video💜. I use my extra monks cloth for my punch needle too.😀 When it comes to the glue I put some in smaller containers because I hate messing with those darn lids and they're to heavy to haul up and down. I also use a butter knife to apply the glue because my putty knife is to big. 😂

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve definitely thought about that since I got a 4gallon bucket of the glue lol it’s so heavy

      I found it at Joann Fabrics! They had a lot of smaller sizes even ones down to like 2” tiles.

    Love the video. I am not an artist at all but I think I told you I can trace. I do have a question though I noticed that you are in a studio and not like at your home. Does your tufting support your business expense and how much should that mirror cost?

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve been an artist for several years and am currently transitioning into doing it full time. Tufting doesn’t currently pay all the bills alone. I’m a muralist and painter as well so that helps. My husband is a full time artist too and we share the space. That 12” is 85$ on my website.

    Hi!! So I need an answer quick. I got glue that I don’t think is correct but it kinda looks like yours. So I was wondering what number your glue was so I know I got the right glue!! I am starting my and I hope I didn’t mess up because I got two gallons of that glue.

    i'll build my frame for a specific size i plan on sticking with, though i have some ideas for larger rugs, too. but, if folk are going to use large frames, i'd recommend having a plan on smaller pieces to begin with. makes sense, right? lol.
    as far as attaching light mirrors to the wall, velcro should do the trick, eh?

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  3 роки тому +1

      I mean you want to have some flexibility and yes it’s for sure best to have a plan. I’ve just seen some people tufting on larger frames than necessary and ultimately wasting backing fabric or not building frames because they don’t have enough space. So I wanted to show another option for those working on a smaller scale.
      Velcro can be finicky and damage the wall. I’ll use either a sawtooth hanger or d-ring.

    • @manlymcstud8588
      @manlymcstud8588 3 роки тому

      @@SamMadeThat i've watched a lot of these tufters waste so much usable cloth it makes me cringe, lol. i imagine it becomes self-evident pretty quickly.
      i might make a different size frame eventually depending on demand (hopefully there is some), but there's a reason why i'm going to stick to 41x27 rectangles for as long as it works. it'd be great to have adjustable frames!

    The white cloth pieces sticking out at 6:39. How do you get them not to show?

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  3 роки тому +1

      That was just lint sitting on top so it got vacuumed up! I find when you get a lot of white fibers pushed through it’s because the backing fabric wasn’t stretched tight enough or evenly enough.

    • @8CountLife
      @8CountLife 3 роки тому +1

      @@SamMadeThat Aahhhhh that is my mistake. I need to tighten the stretch on the monks cloth

    • @SamMadeThat
      @SamMadeThat  3 роки тому +1

      Yea it really has to be as tight as you can possibly get it. And pay close attention to the weave of the cloth itself and try to make sure it’s a straight as possible too!
