  • Instructions in the description. Using a torpedo level...
    1. Mark on your level a 6 inch wide space on the level with a marker
    2. Mark your bowl as directed in the video
    3. Using a grinder with a cutting wheel, carefully cut your spillways.
    Be sure to wear appropriate safety equipment such as a mask, gloves, ear, and eye protection. Nothing is less badass than an unnecessary trip to the emergency room.

    Hey man love the video, got a question for you, ive found 2 bowls that resemble the ones your using on amazon, one is made out of polystone and the other is fibreglass I'm also going to cut spillways like how you've demonstrated, which material would you chose and why ?
    Any advice would be much appreciated 🍻

    do you feel aquascape bowls are over priced ??? as their are alternatives

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  3 місяці тому

      I agree with you. They are unfairly priced. Unless my installation calls for it, we have turned our purchasing to concrete bowls and we cut them with a grinder and a diamond blade. The concrete bowls at a local fountain store are stronger, heavier, and more durable. They generally run about 250.00 which is a much better deal considering freight and all of the above perks.
      I'm knocking Aquascape, they make fine product. But the labor to build the bowls is I think in Wisconsin, costing more than Chinese labor.
      I hope this response earns a new subscriber :)

    I’m not seeing any videos on how to make a spillway out of a raised koi pond into a dry river bed. I’m not sure
    About how to make it water proof under the contemporary stucco wall or if I have to? Or if liner goes up the wall under the stucco? Any advice much appreciated

      We line under the wall when we do that..... literally building the wall on top of the liner.
      In the case of an existing wall, Firestone makes what's called a termination bar that literally drills over the liner and snugs up against the wall.
      We do either method.
      Have a great day and thanks for watching.

    would a bead of silicone on a rock waterfall change the sound from loud to subdued by creating it more sheer until I can get mine cut?

      I don't think it would make that much of a difference. Great question 🤔

    Novice question - what do you all use to cut them?

  • @tonyahaley6900
    @tonyahaley6900 Рік тому +1

    Wait! How did you cut it? What did you use to cut it?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  Рік тому

      A grinder with a cutoff wheel. Harbor Freight for 15 bucks.

      @@ColumbiaWaterGardens Thank you for your answer. Since I have a resin/plastic bowl, I guess I'll use a hot, curling iron again. I think a grinder and cut-off wheel sounds like the wrong tool for my project. 😕

      You will get such a cleaner cut with a grinder. I know it sounds to many people like a scary tool, but one you try it, you may find a lot of uses. Good luck!

    Is this a resin bowl?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  Рік тому +1

      Yes it is. But you can cut concrete with a concrete blade on your grinder. They run about 35 bucks.
