- Two Iron Maiden vocalists Bruce Dickinson & Paul Di’Anno have finally met this weekend… and there was actually a bit more to it that caught the eye.
So yeah, this Saturday, July 13 two Iron Maiden legends Paul Di’Anno, with whom the band recorded their first two studio albums and Bruce Dickinson, the guy who replaced Paul in Iron Maiden in September of 1981, have finally met together in Zagreb, Croatia… apparently for the very first time EVER!
The meeting happened after Bruce Dickinson’s show in support of his latest studio output The Mandrake Project at Zagreb’s Hala Zagreb, where Bruce and his band played 15 songs from his solo catalogue… and right before Paul Di’Anno was about to do exactly the same thing, as his solo concert at Zagreb’s Bikers Beer Factory was scheduled right after the end of Bruce’s show… which now I wonder how many Iron Maiden fans treated themselves to both… and why on earth noone thought about booking a Blaze Bayley show in Zagreb that same day, when he was literally just a couple of hours of drive away with a concert in Leoban, Austria that night.

I was looking for a punch line after that intro, but i realized, i got my punch line over the last 45 years lol. A PUNCH in the face of RAWK! I love Paul the same way i love Bon Scott, and i love bruce like i love brian. All of them were just blast your face off amazing. We're blessed to have experienced them all.

I absolutely love the fact that the 2 of them got together and had a nice conversation. Both of these vocalists are remarkable singers and both have made Iron Maiden the Classic metal band that they have been since day 1. God Bless them both.

Both great in their own rights. Because this song stands out the most to me. I don't think anyone can sing "Remember Tomorrow" like Paul did.
bruce does pretty well though, but paul's clean voice is from another dimension. the best for me

Bruce got the fame,but those first 2 albums with Paul are f'n badass
I've alway thought Killers just sounded like a bunch of songs not good enough to make the first album, a bunch of B-sides if you will. The title track and Wrathchild being notricable exceptions. Overall, Killers is my 2nd least favorite Maiden album. The first album, however, is one my top 5.
I hope Paul Di Anno will sing one more time with Iron Maiden ❤
WAY back in the 90s I read an interview with Paul where he said something along the line of "I'm a much better singer now than I was then, but Bruce has always been a better fit for Maiden". Didn't seem to be any animosity then either. :)
A lot of probably stems from him having the Paul vs Bruce "rivalry" shoved in his face in every interview for the last 40 years.
I'd love to see Paul invited to do a couple of songs with Maiden at a 50th anniversary show. Why not? Blaze too, of course. And Dennis Stratton. Maybe not the guys who didn't play on any of their albums, though. And of course, they'd have to pay tribute to the late, great Clive Burr as well.

I saw them both that day! Sadly Paul couldn't perform more than a few songs, but it was one of the most memorable days of my life for sure

I worked with a guy back in the mid 80's who was a roadie for Maiden in the Early 80's. In 86 and again in 2001 he got me backstage passes and he said Once you are part of the Maiden family will Always be in the family. I remember in 2001 he was telling me how he traveled Europe going to all the Maiden shows while he traveled with the band.
They celebrated the first ten years. The VHS, vinyl, and CD box sets were great releases at the time. So, if they will celebrate 50, it needs to be really special.
That was incredible! Bruce is truly grateful to be alive and cured of cancer and is doing incredible things! And Bruce, thank you for wearing the Bodebrown shirt with the Brazilian and United Kingdom flags
Was on Bruce's concert and went to the biker bar later on.
Said hi to Paul as he was passing by but couldn't wait for him to start as I had a 4h drive back home.

An Iron Maiden Legacy Tour, getting Paul DiAnno, Dennis Stratton, and Blaze Bailey, doing one Mega-concert, would be a legendary tour!!
Bruce has said in the past that Paul sent him a message when he was diagnosed with Cancer, as Paul is also a survivor. This was when he asked by an interviewer if he’d seen a video of Paul telling his audience to send good vibes to Bruce.
As for them meeting back in the early days, as I understand it Paul was very insular and would isolate himself a bit before and after shows, so it’s possible that that he and Bruce wouldn’t have actually met back then.
I’m telling you, I’d love to hear a Maiden album featuring Blaze, Bruce, Di’Anno, doubling, tripling, trading off, soloing. Just like Beastie Boys, man.

Saw Paul Dianno perform in a small venue in Neath (Wales) in about 1990/91. He'd broken his leg the day before but still performed and spoke to the fans. Top bloke.
Saw Paul Di'anno's Battlezone years ago in a club. Cool stuff, band was good.

I saw Paul performing on the 7th of december '23 in Doetinchem (Netherlands) in a similar bar. (2:17) He said the same thing about singing a few songs, but he still performed the whole set. It was a great night

I'd rather hear Paul singing all the Number of the Beast songs. Would be like hearing Bon Scott singing all the songs off Back in Black.
I would love to see all three vocalists together on an Iron Maiden stage at the very least. That would make for an amazing concert and an amazing dvd set.
You forgot to mention that this band who played with paul in zagreb are actually croatian fans. They are members from heavy metal band called time decay. I know the guys, they released a new album last year. If you are a maiden fan, you are gonna like them too.

There were a lot of great bands coming through the late 70s into the 80s, In my humble opinion, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, and Iron Maiden. those 3 bands were doing things musically that no one else could. 3 of the best of all time to date. They were writing rock operas and songs that were so much more than just an intro, verse, chorus verse chours, outro.
I bought a ticket for Paul's gig in Krakow at the end of August. Really hoping I get to see him!
Craziest weekend ever... day before Bruce Dickinson in Hala, in Hard Place in Zagreb was tribute band to Iron Maiden (Rainmaker). Day after, Bruce Dickinson and Paul Di'Anno... it was so fucking awesome! I met Mistheria in Bikers Beer Factory when they came to see Di'Anno... ahhh, so great. I love that I'm metalhead!❤

That was really nice! I have all the albums Iron recorded, my favorite are: Iron Maiden, Piece of Mind, Fear of the Dark and Brave New World. Had I to choose only one...that would be difficult, but the first album would be probably the chosen one.

I will not get into this little game of "he is the best singer" because, for me, they are both excellent singers who brought their personal touch to the group.

You don't need to be a psychologist to say that Paul was uncomfortable and that he probably feel less in front of Bruce.

I don't see why this is so exciting for some fans. Di'Anno has said all sorts of nasty things about Dickinson on stage over the years & I get the feeling Bruce agreed to meet Paul out of politeness. Wouldn't be surprised if he put the CD in the bin.
And no, Maiden would never get him to participate in a 50th anniversary concert. He doesn't remember the words to the songs from the first 2 albums & just tells along incoherently. Maiden is a slick, professional operation that Paul Di'Anno doesn't fit into.
He just said nasty things when fans say stupid things to him. Paul has struggled a bit, face it, and don't take everything he says literally. Remember that stupid Eastern Europe fan screaming Bruce's name in the bar. So many of these fans are just pure numbheads.
You forgot to mention that Chris Dale was also there and played one song with Paul. Everything was so awesome!

Often wonder if they'd ever have a festival of just all bands that have ex-band members, or are related, with Maiden headlining. Blaze and Paul's bands could play along with Smith and Kotzen, British Lions, maybe a few of the better cover bands play smaller stages. It could be a whole weekend of Maidenness :) #MaidenFest

I would love to hear a Maiden song that features both Bruce and Paul on the same track. Even if the band just rerecorded an older track. I'm really not a fan of the Blaze records, but just imagine how epic it would be if the guys got together with Paul, Bruce, and Blaze on vocals to sing the song Iron Maiden. That would be the definitive Maiden track and a perfect bookend to 50 years! 🤘
I don't ever recall hearing Bruce say he hated/disliked Paul, but I've heard Paul talk shit about Bruce multiple times, including saying Bruce was gay. Respect them both however.
Remember, Paul was often drunk, and fans loved to tease him, and shouted Bruce Dickinson at his shows.
And also misunderstandings. At one show, Paul had a very low mic-stand, and he was about to adjust it higher. A stupid russian shouted Bruce Dickinson, to as if Bruce is the midget that would fit that low mic-stand. Of course Paul didn't hear nor connect the joke, because of all the noise in the bar, and literally almost attacked this stupid russian with all kinds of cunt words, even cunting Bruce's name, because of this idiot of an fan. Because in Paul's head, all he heard was the name Bruce. Could've been here that he said Bruce is gay, and an opera singer, imitating and doing the line "Run to The Hills". Then he continued counting up quickly to his next song in the set at the same time doing the cut-your-throat-finger towards the fan. 😂

Could be also that Paul simply didn't want to take up any more of Bruce's time so he was being gracious by being the one to end the conversation as Bruce might have felt rude being the one to do so and Paul probably knew that. Legends both of them in any regard.

When Paul Di'anno was last in Australia he stuffed up and cancelled several dates putting it all down to his breathing.
I've seen him twice and wouldn't waste another dollar to see him again if he was going to do just 3 songs. If he can't do a full set stop wasting our time.
Samson was opening for Maiden several times in 1979... So they have met before.
Well it's the first time they met ever since Bruce took over vocals for them.
This isn't the first time that they have met with one another. It is the first time that they have spoken for more than a few seconds.

Not only should they do it with as many living members as possible but it should be recorded and released for the fans. I have listened to Iron Maiden since The Number of the Beast.

that was pretty cool but I don’t think there’ll be any kind of showcase of all the living Maiden family members. Aside from the Somewhere Back in Time tour, Steve has always said that Maiden always moves forward. Members have done benefits and side projects. So personally while it would be cool, I wouldn’t be upset if they never did anything including any past legacy members.
Itvwould be cool to see them tour and sing soke of the songs together.

@@rabarebra Virtual XI kicks ass. The best Maiden album of the 90s for sure, and one of my top 10 from them. Lightning Strikes Twice, Clansman, and Futureal are particularly great.

I wish D'Anno would do his version of TNOTB album, just to see his vocal approach as a what if.
Or his take on Wasted Years. Would be awesome. But the dude needs to relax a bit more. I know he can sing, but he is overdoing stuff too much. Too much shouts and grunts. Just relax, Paul.
It would be cool if they did a tour with all three singers, and they all sang the songs that they recorded for the albums.

A few years ago, the german legends, Helloween made an epic comeback with all three former vocalists in their lineup at the same time. They are a seven piece band since then. Why shouldn't this be a good formula for Maiden too? (I would love it, to be honest.)
It wouldn't work because Di'Anno doesn't know the words to those old songs anymore & isn't physically capable of touring with Maiden .
@@philipcraig6230 The questions is just to do a couple of songs. But yeah, agree, he is too unstable. I think if he relaxed and focused, he could do at least two songs: Wasted Years and Caught Somewhere In Time. Some obscure song choices for him would be fun.
Di'Anno joined brazilian band Kiara Rocks for three songs during their set at Rock in Rio 2013, on the same stage and night that Iron Maiden headlined. He sang "Wrathchild," "Highway to Hell," and "Blitzkrieg Bop." There's a video on UA-cam.
Is it possible they didn't run into each other that night?

When Runrig called it a day they invited Donnie Monroe to sing with them. Helloween recently toured with Kai Hansen, Andi Deris and Michael Kiske. Anything is possible when old grudges and animosities are put aside. Having a tour (or even just a few special events in London) with Bruce, Blaze and Paul together would be truly awesome!

I really can't see former band-members being invited, but it'd be nice. Though there's no way Dennis Wilcock would be invited.
