Playing tour guide here. At 2:29 you're flying over the Green Zone and over 215 Apartment complex. At 2:31 you're oriented southwest and the road you see running east-west is Al-Kindi street. On the south side of that is the US Embassy. If you flew west down Al-Kindi street for a few seconds there is Union III compound and the judicial complex where Saddam was tried is on the east end. You then continue flying over Tigris River into the Karada area. I didn't see the Babylon hotel which is a significant landmark and sits right on the river, except for the river road in front. Guess I need to buy and check it out for myself.
I spent 18 years in Iraq, whilst the map is great, there's few important key landmark features missing, The Babylon Hotel in Karada as you pointed out, and the Twin Mosques in Jadriyah on route to BIAP, the map doesn't seem to represent a partucular time frame either, no Ministry of Oil, or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I recognised Taji ( I ran a project there in 2022) Based off what I've seen so far, it looks more post 2003, It's a good map, I like it, and like all maps, can only get better, and with the new fog/dust, you can get a good blend of atmospherics going, the BIAP road was barren from 2004-2010, even as late in 2022, when I was last there, it wasn't that dense with the trees.
@lukewilliamson4614 thanks for the info, it's pretty cool that tge map is good enough for you to be able to pick out where I was, and hopefully more landmarks will be added 👍
@@daviddavids8218 That's not what I mean. The biggest issue for me, and this is true for Afghanistan as well, are the building textures. They are too clean. Buildings in this part of the world take too much dirt from dust storms and pollutions. There's no need for extra object placement. They need to retexture some buildings, especially the larger ones. A lot of dirt from dust and traffic needs to be textured on these buildings.
@@andrewchr considering it's not really a ground level based game, having dirty house textures would be lost on the fighter jocks, but great for the rotary boys, they have to have a happy medium/balance
20 years ago i was flying over this for real, now 20 years later I am remembering where I was flying. at least this time no one is shooting at me as I fly over
Yay... another empty, lifeless map! I love DCS but hate having to add assets and create scenarios to bring it to life. You end up spending more time in the editor than flying... 😞
Just tried this with a Bronco, seeing Bagdadh city council for failing totrim them thar palm trees at the end of the memorial, when flying the other way…the y were fatal, on my flight,
I am just bummed the have missed a whole shit ton of Historical and and important shit to Iraq. You only central and bits of NE. Nothing South West North all key pieces. Over the last 50 years. Kinda disappointing. Looks good no doubt. But put out way too soon. Like celebration Square were the crossed Sabers are is massive and Paved and had all sorts of stuff around it. H1,2,3, Al Qaim, All the Republican Guard Complexes, In Najaf ,Amarah, Basrah how younleave out Basrah. Huge significance to Iran/Iraq War,Desert Storm, OIF. So much stuff
Hats off to the team working on this one. Looks very good. Hopefully the Afghanistan team steps up their game soon with an equivalent update.
Looks and performs very well by the looks of it,

@@andrewchr Agreed, no parked cars, buses etc, we can up the traffic levels, and/ or play with dust levels.

Looks accurate, but needs 66% of the vehicles to be white nissan trucks with mismatched body panels

Where does it look like Iraq, it looks like a suburb of the Las Vegas map

I did my first flight in the kiowa as well.
