All these kind and moving words about the greatest voice I've ever heard have moved me to tears. I've kind of launched a secret crusade to subliminally coerce OZZY to cover a DIO song because of the bad blood between the two at one time. I'm not sure what it will accomplish but to me it would be an acknowledgement by OZZY of DIO's place in the world and a burying of the symbolic hatchet.
I think she hadn't listened in a few days, and was getting back to what she now loves! I think Dio had her on the verge of tears in that first segment - that's how moving his voice can be.
@@goose300183 Hell, he hits me that way sometimes and I've been listening to the guy since I was a little kid in 1980. He's just special, plain and simple.
@@wheezerYT There's something very, very special about that particular performance (same one as featured on this channel). It gives me the weirdest feeling. It's a sad, forlorn heartbreak, but combined at the same time with elation and joy. I can't decide if it's happy or sad - it's unique - but I feel it VERY deeply when I listen to it. No other song on the planet has ever affected me like that. No other song has made me feel emotion in general anywhere near as deeply either. His voice combined with that guitar solo and everyone else playing their hearts out - the whole thing just makes me an emotional wreck! There's magick in it.
Loved your reaction. Ronnie is missed by all of us. His passing is still felt to this day. The day he passed we all lost a piece of us. RIP Ronnie we miss you so much.
@@dawn906 His voice dramatically deepened in the summer of 2005. You can hear the significant decline on the Holy Diver live DVD. He developed polyps on his vocal chords at that time and his voice changed at that point and would remain deeper for last remaining years of his life.

@@partyguinness No. She knows talent when she sees it. She's not easily mesmerized. Just because she's effusive doesn't mean she's mesmerized. Stop being a hater.
I was lucky enough to meet Ronnie on two occasions. I am 5' 3" and he was just a little shorter than me. Getting to go backstage at the Hammersmith Odeon, London on the Dream Evil tour was undoubtedly one of the coolest experiences of my entire life. I had a dragon banner with me for the band to sign and I had described it in a letter to him (the only fan letter I have ever written) - as soon as I brought it out, he remembered who I was and where I was from!
It's good to hear Dio getting the props he deserves. His lyricism was always uplifting and powerful, in opposition to so much dark and cynical metal music. One of a kind.
He was also, by all accounts, a true man of the people. He loved his fans and always made time for them. I have read countless firsthand accounts by fans who met him and every single one talks about his kindness and generosity toward his fans. I know Dio had disagreements over the years with fellow musicians, but he always loved and respected his fans.
@@TheCharismaticVoice if you listen to his live performances even at the end of his career, when he was on stage as the cancer was killing him, you'll be amazed at the quality of his voice. We're talking probably 2009. He had reunited with the members of Black Sabbath, and they toured as the band Heaven and Hell (apparently Ozzy sued and won the rights to the name Black Sabbath). One of my favorite Sabbath songs is called "Falling Off the Edge of the World", and Dio nails it, even though he's in his late 60s. Same for the song "Die Young". These are both Dio Sabbath classics, and he's still able to get out on stage and belt it out. He was one of a kind, and there will never be another metal singer with his vocal prowess, range, legato and longevity.
A vocal Coach / Opera singer of this caliber tearing up just by appreciation of Ronnie's singing just show us how unique as this man's music. This is also a very humble way to listen to music and how to appreciate another person's talent. I wonder how happy Ronnie would be if he could see his art being appreciated to this level so many years later.
RIP RJD! As my wife refers to him, "the little man with the great big voice'. She's not wrong. He was only around 5'3" tall, but that voice... oh, that voice.
Ian Gillian and Dio were good friends, the photo Ian has with the 2 of them and another together is funny with Ian Gillian towering above Dio and the other on each side.
It's awesome that you felt his generosity from the gate. He really was that - generous. Seen him once in concert and he was this tiny little man with this giant voice and presence and made you feel like you deserved all the gift he could bring. You can imagine the pain for all of us who loved him dearly when he passed. RIP RJD.
What makes Dio one of the greatest singers is his inflections. You can listen to the same song from 10 different live performances of his and they all have some subtle differences somewhere in the song. Yes, many singers can do this but in my opinion, none do it as well as he did. I have had the honor of seeing him live many times and he has never disappointed me. Give Children of the Sea a spin. It's such an amazing song. This is when he was with Black Sabbath.
Your reaction to Ronnie's singing is so pure, it makes me emotional. That is the effect he had on all of us who love his music. Thank you, as usual, for your genuine and insightful analysis!
He was only 5'4'' tall and over 50 here, but the power, stamina, charisma- it's all there! And not only an amazing singer, but also a tremendous frontman... 🤘

Of all the musicians I've met over the decades. Ronnie will always be the epitome of what Humble is. Every time we had the chance to talk ether before or after a show he made me feel like it was he that was the lucky one. It's a very rare personality that can make a fan feel like the followed & respected at the same time. The last time I saw him was at The House of Blues in Chicago when Scott Ian & Anthrax opened fro him. Took me right back to the 80s. I am grateful for the times we talked and will forever be grateful for the legacy of music he left behind.
I saw Dio in a small venue in Sundsvall, Sweden in the 90's. Was in the front row and it was absolutely amazing, singing along and he shock my hand during the concert 😎🤘👍 will never forget it❤️
“We’ll know for the first time if we’re evil or divine….we’re the last in line”…..Loved Dio since Blackmore’s Rainbow formed in the 1970s. I love that you appreciate him the way you do. He was one of a kind.

We lost him far too soon, i regret so badly not being able to see this legend live. Also knowing that a singer as jaw-droppingly talented and knowledgable as Elizabeth professing her undying love for a fellow deity is very heartwarming
I saw him twice as DIO in the 80's and once as Heaven N He'll about 9 months b4 he died in the 2000's and have been in mourning ever since. There will never be anyone ever again as great and dynamic as RJD!! R.I.P. Brother Ronnie

I remember buying this cassette as a kid and was just blown away at Dio's power and vocal prowess. Sign of the Southern Cross is another awesome tune to review. Dio back in Black Sabbeth off their Mob Rules release.
For me the best version of this song is from Spectrum 1984, it was perfect. Next Dio reaction should be Children of the sea from his concert in Holland 1983
Kirk listened to that version first (it was on our list as the highest recommended) but found the audio quality on Ronnie was not as pronounced and vibrant for vocal analysis. So we picked this version! Sorry!!
@@tommihommi1 its amazing, indeed, though lately she has been doing lots of reactions on Dio's older performances, so I think its time to go back closer to his prime! I know this is a year old now, but I just wanted to write that your initial facial expressions upon the opening of this song are entirely appropriate. His voice & music evokes so much emotion, especially if you're paying attention & involved into the feeling behind the sounds as you always are. Being a huge fan of Ronnie James Dio myself, his persona, his character, is completely present in his voice. And that voice is a icon in the history of music. Your unique perspective on his vocal qualities reinforces the power & subtleties of Dio's gifted instrument.
I eagerly anticipate each and every Dio reaction from you. He is the quintessential metal vocalist and an influence of many if not all of the top metal vocalists.
His last concert, when he was sick, you could tell he didn't look good and something must be going on with his health, which he had cancer. Yet, his voice never wavered. It was just as strong & clear as it had always been. RIP RJD
I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole watching this woman’s reaction videos. Hopefully it will show that hard rock/ metal singers aren’t all crap. Keep up the awesome reaction videos, thanks for sharing.
Seen Dio in concert 4 times. I was 6 years old when I first heard him and loved him ever since. The best concert I went to was Dio and Maiden, 3 hours of the best vocals ever.
One of the reasons I like your reaction videos, Elizabeth. IS the fact that you show with your face right away that you love a certain part or artist. Listen to a lot of Dio back in my youth. RIP!
Ronnie James Dio sings with his entire body. I’m pretty sure it’s his Italian heritage. We all talk with our hands 🤘🤘 I was fortunate enough to see him live on this tour. So much power from a little guy. He was amazing. RIP ❤️
Whether Ronnie was singing in the 60s or the naughties he was worth listening to. I would highly recommend delving into the Elf years. A young Ronnie was one of the greatest upnand coming rock singers of the day. So much so that when Roger Glover and Ian Paice of Deep Purple saw him live, they wanted to work with him.
@@colrhodes377 I had not heard of Elf but I think they opened for DP and that's where Richie heard him and basically took over Elf to form the first incarnation of Rainbow, then being Richie he fires everyone
@@TheCharismaticVoice I think you should also go back to his Rainbow days and at least listen to Kill the King. It has often been considered one of the very first powermetal songs. Also, if you're curious about how it might've sounded with a modern powermetal sound, one of the best covers of that song is performed by a band called Adrenaline Mob. (The singer is from the progressive/symphonic/power metal band Symphony X, _well_ worth a listen on their own.)
I met DIO in 1980 , I was friends with TONY IOMMI at the time I met DIO I was at SABBATH dressing room . He came up to me and said hello I told who I was and I knew I was only a guest , but he treated me as one of the guys . We became like Tony acquainted friends over the years we met numerous times. What I can say about Ronnie I never met a guy who cared for people as Ronnie did. To know him made me a better person through out my life . And in saying that ,one more thing when Ronnie went on stage and sang that was his whole world . I look at DIO as the Mario Lanza or Pavarotti of the Rock World .
Dio was amazing. I wish you could have seen him live and in person perform. I did, about 15-20 times, and he just won everyone over, every single time.
i was lucky to see him 5 times, and every time i was blown away... He is like no other, Geoff Tates voice is a DIAMOND, Sebastian Bach, and many others are AMAZING, but when DIO SANG.. it was different... But we can say we were there, we saw him.
Normally when watching reaction videos like this to metal singers, I dislike the live versions because most can't capture the amazingness of what is in the studio. Dio is probably my one exception. The man never sounds bad and his live performances sound just as good as the studio, PLUS all the extra nuances he throws in that just elevates the song and his talent to another level.
If you like Dio, check out "Rainbow | Mistreated | Live '77", My personal favorite of his. There is a long sustained note with different vibrato types in there that is just, awesome.
@Afternoon Shred I'd go with Mob Rules or H&H albums, or anything from early stage Rainbow, but I want her to do We're Stars more than anything - to see RJD compare with all the greatest singers at the time.

Thanks for taking my suggestion to review this song - lots of comments below about Liliac. I agree Liliac do amazing Dio covers, and Melody is probably the best tribute singer to Dio of all time, but it would seem pointless to review Liliac covering Dio because, well, nobody can out-sing Dio! Please review Liliac, but performing one of their other amazing songs, not one of Dio's.

I've said it before, but you absolutely HAVE to check out Liliac and their cover of this song for Dio's cancer tribute. Ronnie's wife Wendy sent the request personally to the sibling band due to their love for her late husband. You will not be disappointed I promise!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the family rock band LILIAC, whose singer, Melodia, has been "adopted" by Vinny Appice and Wendy Dio as being a female RJD. (which makes Melodia proud since RJD is her major influence) Appice even gave her the nick of MeloDio. They were asked by Wendy Dio to do this song for the DIO CANCER FUNDRAISER this year. The band had a week to put it together in their basement. You will not regret checking it out. Thx for the love for RJD. Oh and at the 12 12:30 mark when he is singing "Never", Dio did a few extras there and I have to give it to Vinnie to maintain syncopations on that snare.

One of my all time idols and his death was a massive loss to so many fans and musicians alike. RIP to a true legend.

I don't think enough can be said about the quality of his voice or the he level of his talent. To be this spot on with the last song in a set is something most of us take for granted. No vocal enhancement, just pure talent.

I'm not sure she could hide them even if she tried ! :D
”I adore every single moment he opens his mouth” - I love that comment, it is so wonderful to listen to Ronnie James Dio with Elizabeth.
When Ronnie cuts loose, i swear, the power of his voice could pound a nail into a board. No hammer necessary. 🙂
It would knock you out
I love Dio forever ❤️
Dio ❤️
He just has to yell at the nail "DOWN!"
He does not need a microphone
I'm freakin crying right now .... he is my favorite person and singer to ever walk the earth... RIP Ronnie James Dio.. I still sing his amazing music as much as I can!
The emotion in your face when listening to Dio tells everything. Every fiber of your heart seems to be touched by his voice.

@@goose300183 -- Same here with "Stargazer" - it gets me almost every time I hear it.
Simply the greatest metal voice of all-time! Sadly missed.

@@Tikki-cy1wkand shes mostly doing good songs to be fair.
There are few things I enjoy more than watching this lovely lady revel in the brilliance of Ronnie James Dio. It warms my heart and soul.
He's really amazing. Truly.
His voice is 6'10"

Short guys with big voices, Dio and Bruce Dickinson
Ian Gillian and Dio were good friends, the photo Ian has with the 2 of them and another together is funny with Ian Gillian towering above Dio and the other on each side.
The mighty midget of rock.....he's greatly missed but NEVER forgotten....as he sang "Long live Rock and Roll"🤘
It's awesome that you felt his generosity from the gate. He really was that - generous. Seen him once in concert and he was this tiny little man with this giant voice and presence and made you feel like you deserved all the gift he could bring. You can imagine the pain for all of us who loved him dearly when he passed. RIP RJD.
that facial expression when Ronnie hit the "home" note. it was at that moment that Elizabeth became a metal head.
You should watch the very first time she listened to dio 😂
En que minuto?
What makes Dio one of the greatest singers is his inflections. You can listen to the same song from 10 different live performances of his and they all have some subtle differences somewhere in the song. Yes, many singers can do this but in my opinion, none do it as well as he did. I have had the honor of seeing him live many times and he has never disappointed me. Give Children of the Sea a spin. It's such an amazing song. This is when he was with Black Sabbath.
Saw him numerous times as well. Agree with everything you said. :)
This!
The live 1984 (?) version
Not black sabbath, more around the angry machines tour and his own band. Tracy G and pilson on bass
Your reaction to Ronnie's singing is so pure, it makes me emotional. That is the effect he had on all of us who love his music. Thank you, as usual, for your genuine and insightful analysis!

His voice & music evokes so much emotion, especially if you're paying attention & involved into the feeling behind the sounds as you always are. Your unique perspective on his vocal qualities reinforces the power & subtleties of Dio's gifted instrument.
I eagerly anticipate each and every Dio reaction from you. He is the quintessential metal vocalist and an influence of many if not all of the top metal vocalists.
Ronnie James Dio was the best! He is my favorite singer of all time! I am glad that you agree with me!
RIP!

And in saying that ,one more thing when Ronnie went on stage and sang that was his whole world . I look at DIO as the Mario Lanza or Pavarotti of the Rock World .
Lanza is correct

Oh and at the 12
12:30 mark when he is singing "Never", Dio did a few extras there and I have to give it to Vinnie to maintain syncopations on that snare.
The biggest thing about Dio, to me, is that just about every fan that you run into that has been to multiple shows (10 plus here) can say that they've met the man at some point (once here) and that he's as sweet and genuine a person as you'll EVER meet and that Stardom NEVER went to his head and he made every fan he met feel like they were important to him. One of my all time idols and his death was a massive loss to so many fans and musicians alike. RIP to a true legend.
I hope Elezabeth reads this... I love at the start how you describe Ronnie as kind, warm, loving when he sings. Well I was in the crowd at a Dio concert getting crushed at the front of the stage, so had to climb on stage to escape... to be met with a wild Ronnie James Dio trying to kick me back into the crowd... luckily his legs were too short and he missed me. hahahaha one of the best gigs ever & probably the best rock singer ever - RIP RJD.

I don't think enough can be said about the quality of his voice or the he level of his talent. To be this spot on with the last song in a set is something most of us take for granted. No vocal enhancement, just pure talent.
