Well I guess I loved this episode a little bit more than you did. There was the misunderstanding regarding Jim's involvement in the Red Barn Con... The whole birdshot buckshot confusion..and clue.. and the emotional aspect of a girl falling in love with someone who was pretending to be someone else. I think it was obvious that Angel began to actually care about Regine. I enjoyed the heart to hearts which often made Jim uncomfortable. Then there was the mystery behind the dead body under the landfill. I always thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Perhaps I would have said a four out of five.. 😊
I enjoyed the episode but I felt like there were a few too many ideas crammed in there. I really think it needed to be a two parter. That’s the only reason it was bumped down to a 3 and it’s a borderline case.
An ambitious Rockford premise that starts with a con, called a "Red Barn" apparently, gone wrong because the con would expose a years ago murder from years ago. Multiple regulars play their characters perfectly: Jim, Becker, Chapman, Beth and especially Angel! I credit David Chase for his creativity. It is rushed, no doubt about it. Several key relationships are relegated to one or two lines of script. Angel/"Eddy" and their "Red Barn" scam & Bobby/his family come to mind. The premise has enough material for a two episodes. I can see why they didn't produce it that way. The first and second scenes wouldn't have Rockford. Just Angel, "Eddy," the Brothers. Angel's wedding and invite to Jim/Rocky would have to happen later in the first episode. 3/5 I think is fair. I would give an * for creativity though. Regards
I almost did give it a * for creativity, especially as it was Chase’s first script and it’s a heck of a first script. The only reason I didn’t is because I made a decision early on to stick to a strict 5, in order to push me to make tough decisions when it came to scoring.
Well done. Thank you!
