    Thanks for making clear that the sensor itself will report the same output level as Stoich no matter the fuel. Few commentators nor WB sensor sellers make that clear and that leads to confusion about AFR calculated by the gauge head unit and its indirect relationship to tuning math. Lambda and 1/Lambda (or Phi) makes table correction super simple.
    Case in point that using AFR is routinely misleading, is that most gas these days is E10 (and getting worse, thanks EPA renewable fuels mandate) and therefore more like 14.1:1 at stoich. But your will still get 14.7 on your good ol AFR calculating gauge when your fuel system has trimmed up the mix to E10's stoich.

    I am wanting a fuel air gauge for my 1 cylinder 5000 watt power generator so I can run lean and get the most power lower my gasoline cost.. Also considering going to Natural gas. You are more expert about this so let me know your suggestions. Might consider an Exhaust engine temperature gauge to avoid burning an engine. This generally loads nicely and kicks up when something big loads the circuit. Generally constant load.

      If your at cruise,light throttle, it should be dead on 14.7 or 1 lambda on a stock type OBD2 vehicle. Wild guess is the sensor needs to be calibrated or its not installed correctly. I always run the Ground wire straight back to the battery to eliminate ground offset. Wideband o2 sensors do go bad alot.

    Thought that diesel would have a higher stoichiometric value than that like 19.0-1 or something or is this again very heavily influenced by different engines as mentioned in the video?

    • @patw52pb1

      +TriniRogue
      Stoich is directly related to the fuel only.
      A given engine configuration, how it is used and what the instantaneous operating conditions are may dictate an AFR value that that is above or below stoich.

    • @sydneycbr6466
      @sydneycbr6466 9 років тому

    • @gor4200
      @gor4200 6 років тому

      Adventure Joe it's not going to show you how much fuel, just the ratio of air to fuel. The higher the number the more lean you're running and the lower the number the richer (or "fatter") you are running. You don't want to get too much higher than 15 when applying throttle. If it is getting higher than that you are lean somewhere in your circuits. For gasoline 14.7 is the ideal number. If anything, running a little richer is usually better than running too lean. Running lean creates a lot of heat and even backfire and possibly surging.

    Jay, this is one of the best explanations out there for EUGO gauge reading! But if I may, can you confirm @1:25 the stoich ratio you have for E10 pump gasoline? Because I believe E10 is 14.1:1, due to the up-to-10% ethanol component of the fuel. Straight gasoline (E0) stoich should be 14.7:1. Other than that, this video rocks. Keep up the good work!

    • @zacharymorris9917
      @zacharymorris9917 2 роки тому +2

      You're wasting your time asking someone who has no clue.
      You're also asking the wrong question.
      Stoich for E10 is 14.08xxx. 14.1 is more than close enough to call it correct. That's irrelevant because a "wideband" sensor will still display 14.7 at stoich on E10. Do yourself a favor and stop working in AFR. Lambda is correct for ALL FUELS. AFR is only correct for one single solitary fuel, something that's virtually non-existent today. Ethanol content varies wildly between full ups.

    Really informative vlog, but...? These days you can no longer get 95 actane gas in Norway, it changed over to E-85... Since the stoich then changes as you say from 14.7:1 to 9.7:1, how on earth can I change the value of the air/fuel ratio gauge to track 9.7:1 so I get the correct reading between rich and lean? Also one more thing... Is it posible to hook up an air to fuel ratio gauge to the existing lambda sensor insted af what a lot of others do, cutting, welding, installing an second sensor just for the gauge??
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, thanks a lot for the clear and quick explanation. I understand lambda is a good way to measure a rich/lean condition regardless the fuel or vehicle. Just one quick question though, I took my car for smog inspection today and the result was 1.0, 1.15 lambda (low, high rpm), so what do you recommend should be adjusted/changed in order to pass the test? Other values were:
    CO + CO2% 15.0, 12.12
    CO2% 14.5, 11.6

    I’ve replace a o2 sensor because of the code but the light comes on again. During warm up the voltage is 1.7. The non affected bank reads o.2 before the replacement the voltage was 2.9. Can an exhaust leak cause these high readings or is that pretty much a damaged ecu. Customer said it came on around the same time his car was rear ended.

    So if I wanna tune my turbo bike and I'll be using different fuels I should put it on lambda and it will be the same afr from 93 Oct to say C16?

    A question guys, I run e85, i understood that 9,7 is the stoich ratio but if it's was calibrate on fuel, the display 14,7 correspond to the 9,7 ratio on e85, right?

      Check it on the Lambda scale first then see where the gauge is.

      @@alundrasrt I have an Innvoate guage setup but I never could get it to switch to lambda. I used the computer software setup first to check it and then just use the gauge for realtime. I called, emailed and even called Summit racing to try and figure it out and never did get a reply from Innovate. pretty sad.

    I got an aem wideband 30-0300 about 5 months ago.
    The gauge now says "sens" on it, but before the gauge used to stay heating for over 1 minute or longer.
    Any ideas on how to get my wideband to read again?
    Thanks!

      G2G, I'd check all of your wiring on the gauge and O2 sensor to make sure you don't have a loose connection.

    I have a 99 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban with the 454CI (7.4 to you liter folks.) During normal acceleration from stop light to stop light, every now and then it falls on its face HARD. not like the AC compressor turning on feel, but like I lost 50% of my power. I don't have a gauge and It does not smoke when it falls on its face. Should I invest in a Air/Fuel reader?

    • @juanrodriguez-ry6yt

      what you need is a scan tool try cleaning the mass air flow sensor but its a guess

    • @SR-cp1eo
      @SR-cp1eo 7 років тому +1

      juan rodriguez I appreciate the response. Already did that. I think it's the fuel pump and a leaking injector. Starts perfectly when cold but when the engine is warmed up, it smokes and sputters to a start. Could be related

    • @juanrodriguez-ry6yt
      @juanrodriguez-ry6yt 7 років тому

      yes leaking inj. common on these also ck.fuel pre. regulator inj can be remove send them out for testing and cleaning

    • @SR-cp1eo
      @SR-cp1eo 7 років тому

      juan rodriguez yeah already replaced filter and fuel pressure regulator. Next on my list is the pump then injectors but I got other things to fix right now. Thanks for your imput tho! I had a feeling from the start it was the inj. But was in denial because I didn't want to replace them. Start easy and cheap then work your way up
