G.I Joe DBG New Alliances Expansion - Talk Through

Pull up a chair! I'm taking a look at the Transformers cross-over expansion for G.I Joe deck-building game - New Alliances.

BGG Score: 8.3/10
Pros:
- it's Transformers in the GI DBG world, how awesome is that
- Autobots have a unique dual purpose (bot/alt) to add to your strategy
- management of Energon adds to strategy and planning
- Space bridge, the Ark, Constructicons and Mini-cassettes bring a wide array of challenges to face/mitigate
- art work is great
Cons:
- adds a lot more to keep track of and can easily forget certain triggers
- you don't really feel like an Autobot in their bot/alt modes
- set up of main deck and complication substitutions makes it expansion specific
Personal verdict:
Happy with it. I want to love it because it's Transformers. I just don't love all the things I have to keep track of!

Thanks! I'm glad it helped! I've been having a great time with New Alliances and after 10+ plays I'm fine with the added aspects to keep track of. It's still not an easy game; very challenging but oh so rewarding when I win (just twice so far lol).

They really should have had Hound!!! Feels like a missed opportunity there. Military transformer in a GI Joe game!😂😂😂

True! I'm not sure how successful this expansion was and if they will include a future expansion with Hound. I'd like to see Jetfire, Brawn and Mirage. Thanks for watching, game on!

I think I'll pass on this expansion (Have coldsnap and serpent). This seems a bit too much. I enjoyed what Cold Snap expansion added to the base game and I don't think I need anything else for now. Also, I agree that combining expansions seems like madness.

I have played the core missions with the Autobots and after removing a few Alliance specific cards with some minor tweaking, it still plays well so that's added some replay value right there for me. I'm still considering Serpent because that Command Center looks neat and I wouldn't mind having Storm Shadow on the Joe team! Thanks for watching, game on!
