It all started with a dude skydiving in a yellow suit, now my UA-cam is full of unexpexted masterpieces

70’s is like an unending well of musical treasures.
A lot of that has to do with the fact that bands in the 60s and 70s put out a new album literally every year lol. Musicians worked their asses off. Drugs use to make us a productive race hahahaha
👍
@@jerryevans4002 It's true! And sometimes even two albums in the same year: Black Sabbath, Rush, Kansas and other groups maybe, in the first years of their careers produced new music very quickly! And there were both quantity and quality! Greetings from Italy!

Agreed
It's because they wanted you to buy it. Back then, you couldn't just go onto UA-cam to see if you like it or not, you buy it and you listen. If you don't like it, you listen anyway because you spent money on it. That's why I reckon more people liked prog back then compared to now. Now, they just left click into a different song because they can't be bothered to adapt to the piece being played. One of the reasons all popular music nowadays is all the same, so it's familiar to people on first listen.

This album is an ancient Italian art passed down by the Zeppeli family for generations
I know, this supposed to be some kind of Pop cultural reference...
...but it's actually 'ancient' Dutch art ; )
@@DerEchteBold It's actually a jojo reference. The best anime created by mankind (and god himself)
@@Marianne69420
Is it also an Anime? I already looked it up and something said Manga, I guess it's both?!
Whatever, I never liked all that Japanese crap, visually unpleasant, lots of awkwardness (probably due to bad translation) and inconclusive storytelling, that was always my verdict ...but too each their own.
@@DerEchteBold Yeah it's originally a manga, it got *officialy* adapted as an anime in 2012 by the studio David Production. Jojo's bizarre adventure have a really really *bizarre*, original, outside-the-norm storyline and characters. It is not your normal shonen or your normal manga about a guy who want to get some chicks but get recalled at every move. Jojo is about the Joestar bloodline and each part is divided by a new descendant (or not, you'll see why if you get interested in) and each of them have their own personality and attributes, each part is really different from one another. The anime have a really original soundtrack (one of them is a song from the 70's), a really unique color palette and SFX which are the main reasons why people got so interested in Jojo.
If i were you, i'll try to watch until the 2nd part which is classified as one of the best part in the whole show.

A little history lesson: This band formed after dutch progressive rock band Ekseption dissolved. They later united with the band Trace which was founded by a former keyboarder of Ekseption to reunite Ekseption again.
'a former keyboarder' is the legendary Rick van der Linden
@@GrouRocks Cool & Cool.
And the music is Ekseption-al! Truly talented musicians that can twist their style from funk to prog rock. Jesus the 1970s was such a great decade even some disco was worthwhile.

Clicked for the art and the 70s stamp. Stayed because this shit slaps
I think that shit just happened to me tonight.
I bought this album at the tail end of the 1970's...and here it is 40 years later, and I am rediscovering this gem. Funk jazz meets prog...jeez, what else has this band / these folks done...?!??
Jeni Kaybee in my mid 20s and just now discovering this, but I’m a huge fan of prog and in particular this gives me a return to forever vibe on couple of these tracks which is just the bees knees.
I hear ya loud and clear on the Chick Corea/Return To Forever grove here...sometimes those horns have a Tijuana Brass/Bill Chase punch. Even guys like Chuck Mangione, Herb Alpert, Chuck Mangione, etc., went into the disco mode in the mid 70's. It's just that Spin kept it progressive. Speaking of Dutch bands...Alquin is also a real good bet from the 1970's.
Dude yes same
Experiencing the 70s vicariously through UA-cam
The 70's were ok. The beginning and the end of the decade were better for music than the middle IMHO.
I think you're much more likely to stumble upon an obscure 70s Dutch fusion album in 2019 than in 1976.
@@dububro It all depends on where you lived and what record stores you visited. I do value the amazing variety of music that has found its way to UA-cam. But there are numerous albums I owned in the Seventies (and even more that I discovered in the collections of past friends, lovers and roommates) which are unlikely to ever find their way here. And that isnt even mentioning the thousands of bands who never got a chance to put their contributions down on vinyl. Its great that youngsters can find so much amazing old music on UA-cam. But its no substitute for having actually LIVED the music of that era.
K Matsu Maybe I can't listen to _everything_ from the 70s, but I can listen to a lot of it, for free, wherever and whenever I want to. Plus, I can listen to music from the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, something that would be impossible in the 70s. So while it may not be a perfect substitute, I think this situation is better.
Also, if you have any good albums that aren't online, you should upload them.
um i was there in the 60s and 70s and this slipped under my radar!
My sideburns grew an inch while listening to this.

@@Zeebats "almost no real musicians"? sure, the art industry in general sometimes might be a bad, but that is a huge overstatement, to say the least. There are many great artists out there, but if you are searching only for what you don't like so you can criticize, then obviously you won't be able to find the good stuff.
If you only listen to the radio, or the stuff that big labels are pushing, you’ll be disappointed. There’s probably more good music being made now than at any other point in time, so many artists are doing their own distribution, paying for the production of their own records. There’s just so much music out there.

"Hey Johnny! This is the Golden Spin!"
I can't believe the superb quality of this album. It starts with a funky song with a rock edge, slowly builds into a rock with a fusion jazz feel, and finally ends as a prog rock like the sound of New Trolls. How could an album like this go unnoticed?
It’s a mystery to me bro/sis ! This is ridiculously well put together…the intro track blows my mind but as you say the album snakes in and out of everywhere… funky sneaky catchy ….. loving it!!
There were other artists back in the 70s and 80s who, like this group, did not get the exposure I and others felt they deserved-and to this day I can't explain why it was so...this is also, the 1st time I ever heard of this group-or this album-hope to be able to obtain it in the future-and whoever "TERMINAL PASSAGE" is he/she/they have blessed us who have discovered this website, with some never-before-heard(for some of us)and marvelous music...10-6-22.
Some things are just too good to get the appreciation they deserve and this one gets better every time you hear it.
Because it was a highly creative period musically and there was tons of amazing music coming out back then, you didnt have to try hard to find it. I remember as a kid in the early 70s going through other peoples music collections and playing album after album that all had a similar sound to this, you would skip most of it as there was nothing that special about it at the time. But compared to today.....
Beats me! I'm a sucker for the 70s music, never ever heard of them and I just can't believe how good they are. Just found out they're were Dutch too.
