- “Everyone is confused what to do next,” says Montrealer Om Prasad Konda, an international student whose work permit is expiring this month. He is one of the many demanding the Canadian government extends the permits. Alyssia Rubertucci reports.
My daughter who is born and raised here couldn’t get a part time job here in Brampton. She went to every Tim Horton , McDonald’s, Subway, KFC and every fast food restaurant. She said everywhere there are international students and even managers, as owners are Indians and they refuse to hire white, Black or person born here. Don’t know why! Even for Tim’s job they hire each other’s friends or relatives. There is a new meaning of racism behind curtains.
This needs to stop.

We need to start standing up and file charter right complaints. Even the feds are doing/using race base hiring. Which is totally against the charter. Which states everyone is equal. Doesn't matter on race, creed etc.

@avii_wan_kenobithe problem you brought up has actually been exacerbated by the government and schools relying on said funding. Instead of working to solve the problem of education cost and availability, they used a temporary method which undoubtedly helped, but inevitably caused more issues (cost of living, housing opportunities, etc.). The root question to our government should be “Why does education come at such a high cost in Canada? Why is learning a luxury in Canada? Where exactly does that money go towards?”

The PGWP has always been a loophole.

That's an assumption you're making, and it simply isn't true. Their families are often making tremendous sacrifices to send them here, and there is a lot of pressure on them to not merely succeed academically, but to contribute to the costs of their own education.
You assume all international students come from families that are well-off. You're wrong. Instead of scapegoating and generalizing, how about ask any teacher?

They are supposed to come with money. Nobody guarantees them work permit. If they don't have enough money there are cheaper countries to study.
No international student should be allowed to work until the 3rd or 4th year. Even after that, there must be an addiotnal tax charge by the government for hiring international students over local students

International students are supposed to prove they have money to persue education in another country, not go there for work.
Could the issues they are having finding jobs after graduating from Canadian universities perhaps be related to their English/French language abilities?
I don't think so, there are a lot of type of job where you basically do not need to talk with anyone, e.g Tecnichanal ensambles, CNC maquine enginieers, Drafters for HVAC and so on. literally you do not need to talk with nobody.

Our local kids should come first. I am minority lived here 25 years. The parents worked hard for two decades to put their kids to universities and the kids cannot find jobs. Let's all locals sign a petition to put our kids first. Diversity, all white, black, latino, chinese Canadian Indian should given the opportunities to process in this country. How did Om Prasad Konda cleared IELTS in the first place?. How hallow is our Student visa process?. Is There any criteria for issuing student visa?. How did he even clear any exam in his so called international course with this english.
Used to get IELTS score for money from India, but government caught those scams couple of years ago

It's all a big racket the gov and colleges make the money. In India the agents sell these students the dream get all the fake papers documents signed and ready for them to come on over
They all cheat. You can pay to get the exam questions beforehand, pay someone to take it for you, etc. There is an entire industry behind cheating foreign exams including medical. This is prevalent in their culture hence you see the same cheating and fraud in the mortgage market in Brampton. Its not a secret.

We need to close all easy immigration pathways like the US did and only hire Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents for jobs based in Canada. Businesses do need to stop relying on cheap foreign students for work. It’s impossible for Canadians to compete against that, and the current immigration standards do just that. So many businesses rely on keeping their standards below minimum to survive and want to exploit these students.
Not only that, immigration like that needs to be a two way street. No one is going to those countries for school, because no one here knows the quality of education in other countries (let alone housing here or the health care) There’s no reputation at all. It’s unfortunate, but there’s just too much international policy at play here. There’s no money, governments are going to be less open to immigration. Plus the stories of international students at food banks, it isn’t a surprise that they’re turning people away.

There policies are made by Canadian government for there own benefits and policies can change for there own reasons , you students have no right to ask them for a extension or protests since it is not your land.
