You're so kind thank you xx We don't get near as much snow as you Nigel, which is a shame so I make the most of it when it is here 😊 I'm glad I took progress photos, it had actually developed a lot more branching than I realised 😁xx
Hi Greg, thank you very much :) It depends on so many nuances, the health and vigour of the tree, is water percolating happily or is the soil breaking down, what type of tree is it, what time of year is it...and more. I prefer to err on the side of caution and do one operation in a year, allowing the tree to recover before doing further major work :)
Your weather is up and down like a yo-yo, first snow and the filming in a sleeveless blouse! I have never created a bonsai so I find it fascinating to watch. At what stage will you be able to let the Japanese Quince do its thing and flower freely?
The joys of merry old England Una :) I'm glad you're enjoying watching the different types of content I make, it's really nice to know. To get any decent development on the Chaenomeles, I should probably remove the flowers every year for a good few years, but it won't hurt to let it flower now and again, it will just slow down any thickening of the structure :)
Thanks for the information Rebecca. I love learning something new! I see Darcy was loving the snow. My Labrador Lily was outside all hours playing in the snow, she didn't appear to feel the cold!
Hi Rebecca, your garden looked lovely in the snow. Good work on the flowering quince - and good decision to do the canopy this year and roots next. I liked this line: "Wait for the first flower to fade, then take everything off!" 😂 I should be a journalist taking lines out of context like that!
Thank you! :D :D :D I love a good double entendre! Did you spot the magnificent Chinese Quince in the background calling out to you through the screen Dave? :) My camera did not want to focus on the Japanese quince at all, it only had eyes for the Chinese Quince :D xx
Dave I don't know how to fix it :( I can see your comments in "notifications" but greyed out. "Held for review" is empty :( and I'm pretty sure I have you set to "Never hold for review" or something like that... I'm stuck!
When is the best time to repot a flowering quince where I'm at there's not a lot of people that do quince and the few that are doing quince are repotting them in the middle of winter and they are dying I am thinking early fall or spring time when the buds begin to swell but I wanted to ask to be on the safe side... just see when the safest time frame is
Hi William 😊 THE best time to repot any flowering Bonsai is immediately after the first flower has faded, not all the flowers, just the first one to fade. Once you've repotted, if the temperatures start to drop to around zero centigrade, then it will need some protection. An unheated greenhouse will be enough, or put it on the ground in a sheltered part of the garden and surround it with other Bonsai or potted plants 😊 Happy potting xx P.S. make sure you remove all the flowers at the time of repotting, and any that appear afterwards that year 😚
Thank you for sharing your experience! Really useful for home gardeners.
Thank you so much Alex, I really appreciate it xx
I really like your backyard, looks beautiful with all the snow! Nice Quince also!

@@PumpkinBecki It always amazes me when I look back how much the trees change!
It's inspired me to take more of all my trees 😊xx
Great vid! Just the one I was looking for! I've many chaenomeles bought last year which I need to start working on and now I know when and how! :)
Oh fantastic, I'm so happy about this 😍xx
Amazing ice and snow!
It was really pretty wasn't it, I do love snow :D
Very pleasant video. I’m confused though, I have always thought it was perfectly acceptable to reduce the canopy of root work is done.

@@PumpkinBecki ps. I just replied and added a link to a Chinese q. for sale, so it might have ended up in your spam filter
