Somebody out there has a serious case of sour grapes. What the heck is wrong with people? Kudos to you and your crew. Kudos to the FAA, too, for doing their due diligence and giving the middle finger to whoever reported you by showing interest in the project and being willing to help. Onwards and upwards.

@Brett Day: yeah... it comes with the territory, you do something in public, especially on the internet, you will allways get someone trying to sabotage you, jealous people that can't accomplish anything and don't want others to either.... it's amplified by the internet, since they have a feeling of anonymity and distance and mostly won't get in trouble or get called out for their bs in person....
@Rebuild Rescue: you're doing great, please don't let them get you down... I really love those videos.

@@edwood8698 well... we can't give kudos to the complainant... since he/she was complaining about stuff that was not true. (possibly malicious)
and the FAA has to check if the complaint has a point, they did their work, found out, the complaint was BS, but stayed polite and even offered their help and support.
so.... kudos to the FAA and dissing the complainant is kinda the way...

Attitude makes all the difference. As a trucker, I’ve dealt with DOT many times. Every time, when they see my attitude, ie I want to do it right, safe, and legal, they respond to that with a willingness to aid and educate. Your attitude and care allowed the Inspectors to work with you. It’s all about attitude.

As a pilot and aviation professional for many years, your attitude towards the faa is spot on. You know the FSDO's ASIs are discussing this on break and their inbox is full. And they know their supervisors are likely watching this as well. They have to cover their tails. They know there isn't a single aircraft out there that meets type design and "safe for operation" is a subjective interpretation by the IA. They can lay down the hammer on anyone. There will be people giving advice in the comments about not making videos and taking on liability, but I think this is a great learning tool of how important a professional working relationship with the FAA is. They are not your friends but they are not your enemy. We work to a common goal of reducing risk to the point that safe operation is guaranteed.

Glad that the FAA is willing to help - despite all the nasty stories, you'll find that many of those come about due to other people's gross negligence or doing something so terribly wrong the FAA has to bring down the hammer as it were. It's very similar in Australia with our version of the FAA, CASA. My company is going through a massive culture change where instead of hating CASA and loathing to deal with them, we are sitting down with them in meetings, embracing their input, and overall it seems to be improving everything that we do and also helping to bring CASAs eyes down to our perspective and seeing how we operate. People need to remember that while yes - this is the government, the people inside a lot of these departments are people that are just trying to promote safety, and by sitting down with these people and asking for their input, and even bouncing ideas relating to safety back and forth the aviation community will become safer as a result.

Well, to be honest if you get a call from the IRS telling you that I'm pretty sure they're honest! Their goal is to make sure that you're doing the right thing so you don't break the law, and that the nation as a whole isn't cheated out of vital taxes... The road you're driving on is paid by your taxes, so are the runways you're using and other vital infrastructure we have in a civilized society!
You can argue the ups and down of the system and like/dislike it as much as you want and that's fine, and the way you change it is to vote for those who are willing to makethat change for you within the government! So yeah, if the IRS calls you to say they are there to help you then they want to keep you out of jail, or at least not end up with huge debts that could otherwise have been avoided! 🤔

Germany has something similar to the IRS ("Finanzamt"). If you're new to filing taxes (e.g. being the new treasurer of a non-profit organization), call up the person "on the other side". They're usually helpful on how to do everything (in my case, providing me with some hints on how to get below a threshold that would have generated much more paperwork). They're just trying to do their job with a minimum of effort, so if they help you do it correctly, they don't have to do that back and forth with incorrect forms, etc...
If you try to cheat them, not so much. They do have experience and they know most, if not all, tricks.

Now my state treasurer (michigan) was NOT the case. They sent me a nasty letter out of the blue, that I owed money for my employee (even though my employee had taken another job) and claimed I never filed a special form letting them know I no longer had an employee. My bookkeeper had prrloof she filed the form, and we ended up having to file it three more times!!! The idiots kept losing it!!! Jason, your experience with the FAA is definitely better than most. There are a ton of people who hate them, I used to be one of them. In fact, I got into some trouble a few years ago. Initially, I thought I was going to beat them and that I was smarter than they were. I thought they were “picking on or harassing me”. By the end of it, I was turned around 180. The inspector who worked my case was a good guy person who laid it all out for me. At the end of the day (with the help of some others), I received an appropriate and fair sanction. From that incident (which was my own doing), my eyes were opened about the impacts of my decision making. It was truly a learning experience.

Either way, the FAA is generally helpful and as you get to know them and they you, future Karen alerts will be given the weight they are entitled. BTW, I had two FAA agents walk into my hangar and say, "We're from the government and we're here to help." I always got along with them, most were former mechanics too, so if you get some that were, you're in luck. Be sure to fill out and send in Malfunction and Defect reports when you uncover something potentially hazardous during an inspection. That shows the FAA that you are paying attention to safety. At least two of mine turned into AD notes.

There was no discussion of the work being supervised by a licensed inspector, etc. It looked like you were going to clean the carbs, air up the tires, clean out some bird/mouse poop, and go fly a very broken aircraft. This popped up in my recommended today and I am very glad to see that the FAA is involved and everything is being done by the books. they have the reputation, deserved or not, of being pigheaded bureacrats with no interest other than to shut down general aviation.
It's much the same with aviation authorities in other countries, and in many of those countries it is indeed deserved as that's (by design or not) government policy.
E.g. I was forced to discontinue private pilot training because of my medication. I take anti-depressants which are blacklisted, meaning I'd never be able to solo (thus killing my chance to ever get my license, obviously).
BUT I don't take them for depression, I take them for a sleeping disorder that doesn't (as long as I take them) influence my ability to operate an aircraft or motor vehicles (were I not to take them I'd be too dangerous to drive, let alone fly, within a week of stopping, yet by regulation I'd have to not take them for a month before every single flight).
I consulted with an AME who consulted with EASA before starting my training, and they said I was fine because of the paperwork I had to prove my reason for taking them.
YET when I went for my medical, EASA denied that medical for the very reason they earlier said would be no problem.
The government here also, a few months later, tried to ban all light aircraft operations from my nearest airfield except for flight training by flying schools contracted to train airline pilots. THAT was later overturned in court as it would have destroyed a lot of local businesses (obviously), including several dealerships for light aircraft, repair and maintenance shops, flying schools, etc. etc., and there was no legal basis for them to do this, they just thought it'd fly (no pun intended) as long as they claimed it was "for the environment".
The government retaliated by turning the place from an untowered into a towered airfield, greatly increasing landing fees and disallowing free aircraft operations (you're now effectively forced into the same procedures as are in place on an international airport, and that on a GA field, including having to file flightplans for clearance even for GA flights, requesting permission for engine start, etc. etc.).
Result is most GA operations moved out, or just closed down.

This is a much healthier way to promote safety & learning. Really really enjoyed this video.

Probably only the 2nd or 3rd video of yours I’ve seen and the first on the plane.
Love your open approach and that the FAA seem genuine in helping rather than hindering. I’m assuming a lot of that comes from how open you were with them too.

Thank you for watching Sean, it means a lot to us that you enjoyed the episode. With cooperation and doing everything by the books the FAA was a great help ! I hope to see you again soon

I have watched this from the very beginning…..my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery to remove it last year. I was recently promoted to another job at the time and had a lot on my plate. I watched the first episode and it was quite literally the only thing that kept my mind off of everything. Thank you guys for keeping the mission going, I’m glad to say my mother has recovered almost fully and I cannot wait to hopefully see the Phoenix in person. God bless you all.

The FAA is awesome. We’re all on the same team; keeping airplanes flying safely. Don’t be afraid of “Poking the bear” and getting in trouble for a paperwork error. They would rather correct deficiencies with education than punishment.

Sorry about the Karen that called. Thanks to your video I have a new found respect for the faa. Not only did they investigate a complaint but they helped to make sure things were going as they should an offered assistance to move forward as well. Keep up the great work, I have been following your channel since the beginning of this project and really hope to see it completed. 401 Forever!

@rebuildrescue Jason, I am totally impressed by the way you handled things with the FAA.
It's great to see that the FAA do the education and support side of their work in helping Rebuild Rescue.
This is somewhat of a record for me too, two comments in two months. 😁

Honestly, that's great about the FAA and that they have taken every case seriously, as they should. Keeping our skies, pilots, passengers safe should always be a priority. Now, jealous fools effectively 'swatting' you with the FAA is a pure _waste_ of the FAA's resources and is shameful. Keep up the great work!

I would imagine there's an awful lot more that happens behind the scenes than what you see on screen. I have no doubt that everything is being done by the book.

I have experience with the FAA through a hobby, and can say that in my experience they're a good group to work with. They're helpful, they're friendly, they're focused 100% on safety.
Kudos to you and the team for doing a great job of properly following procedures and giving light to the discussions you've had with them.

Not true. MANY of the people at the FAA are a good group to work with, some are even GREAT, but there are also the ones who are power-mad and shouldn't have the authority to order lunch. The guys who tried to screw Bob Hoover, for instance.
Over the years, I've been lucky enough to meet a lot more of the former than the latter, but there are too many of the latter type out there.

Haven't been here in a while (last time I checked in you were still wheel chair ridden).
    Glad everything it's moving along.
Best of whishes and good luck with the project.
