That’s actually the only but that I’m not super thrilled with. Yes, it can, BUT it’s more like a traditional camera tripod where the phone mount slots into a notch on the ball head so the phone sort of hangs off the side from the sender of gravity. Again, just like a normal tripod does for bigger cameras. I wish the phone mount would have been designed to swivel and stay centered over the main bit. But yes, it does totally work👍

I’m not a vlogger by any means but I was curious about a microphone for my phone cause I recorded a video at the park today and the wind made it quite difficult to listen to. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you.
On the skateboarding section, were you using the Rode Mic with the dead cat or a Lav? I was surprised by the low level of the skate board noise. Anyway it sounded great.
Hello!! Found this video super helpful and persuasive haha. I was wondering if that smooooth filming during the skateboarding is due to the iphone12 or any special settings? Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video. I think you sold me and I will purchase through your link, I have an iPhone the only question I had before buying is will the mic fit if you have a case on your iPhone? I just have a basic uag phone case, wondering if i will have to take off the case Everytime I plug in the mic? Thanks
Unfortunately, it depends on the case. With the Otterbox case that I have, it doesn't fit. Which is why I had it caseless in this video. But I'm thinking of modifying the case so that it will fit. Basically, just cutting a notch out of my case on the bottom so the mic can seat fully👍
@@DavidManningvlog thanks, the company wrote me back and said the same thing. But i did just order from Amazon through your link in the comments. Thanks

David, what is the length of your Insta360 stick? is it the 70cm or the 120 cm? Because I want to grab that to add to my Røde rig now that I know I can.
Nice review.. my main concern is the mike plugging in directly, if you are worried that a spring loaded clamp might allow the phone to pop off when bumped the mike could definitely damage the phone or mike when bumped.
I’ve tried that one out a few times and something about it never felt sturdy enough. That’s why I’ve kept going back to the Pixie. Super solid and just works! But there’s a new kid in town with the Rode Tripod 2👍
Great video, this kit looks pretty sweet! I've been using the all aluminum Beastclamp with the Rode Video Micro. I like that setup but would prefer this nice tripod instead of the aluminum handle from the Beastclamp.
Fantastic review. I had just ordered one and then found this video. Feeling even happier about my purchase now! The of course I had to go and order the selfie stick :) can’t wait to put this gear into action.

Pretty cool! Actually thinking of ditching my canon 800D and just use my samsung note 10 plus as my studio vlog camera and my insta360 one x2 as my outdoor vlogging camera. The rode vlogging kit is looking like a good future purchase.
It’s for sure getting to the point where that makes sense! The video quality coming out of camera phones these days is insane. If we can up the quality of the audio, they would be pretty incredible and convenient Vlog cams!

Does your Ulanzi phone mount have a screw to tighten/loosen? I have an Ulanzi as well, but it’s just a spring loaded mount, which always freaks me out!
@@DavidManningvlog Yup. Model ST-025 has the screw clamp, a cold shoe on top, and a tripod mount on the bottom. The one I have is actually the ST-02, which I think was an earlier version. I got it specifically because I like the positive grip I got from the screw clamp instead of just having the spring m I would love to know how the two compare, since your video of the Rode model and the pics I see online make it look almost identical.

Hi Matt! I actually have been lately! For most use cases, the in built app is pretty fantastic. The only reason that I’ve been using Filmic Pro lately is when I want to include iPhone footage in a video with my A7Siii. From Filmic Pro, I can grade them a bit closer together👍

Does this work if you have a case on your phone? I saw another video saying they had to take their case off so the mic could plug in more flush to the phone.
Default camera app works great with it! The main reason I use third party apps though is to be able to monitor audio levels and set more manual controls on my video👍
I have different setup and it cost way less. This setup is good but mic is far away from me. I use lav mic which give me better sound in more situations
Thank you, David! I have been fighting with my Rode video mic that has to have dongles and ignorant stuff that makes it so difficult. I have just ordered this Vlogging kit for my 12. May I ask what editing app you use for your videos? I'm new at this whole vlogging thing, but I want mine to be pro quality, which they are NOT. Thanks!
i think the gopro 9 may be better quick grab rig during the day, but at night... the gopro can't hang. this iphone rig may be good for medium lighting situations when you don't want to bust out the big boys. you'll still get some handling noise though without a shockmount. would be nice to see something like the me-l but with shockmount... maybe a lav like tascam dr-10L and syncing in post is better with the iphone. or rode go but risky to lose audio completely.
Man! I got very impressed because I’ve a good setup like a shutter grip and a goo tripod and I’m intending to get a rode me L but I was thinking about to get a gimbal but after I see your videos on handheld man, you’d encouraged me to keep on this idea, this setup is affordable and portable perfect to descent vlog. Great video. This is a very intriguing piece of kit. Love the little tripod/handle piece. The mic that clicks into the iPhone lightning is AWESOME! I’m wondering, could I find some kind of adapter so I could use it with my GoPro too? Or maybe I should get the Rode video micro and adapt to the iPhone? Light is cool. Is it battery operated or rechargeable with USB? All in all... I think it’s definitely worth $149

It would work a whole lot better than not having it, but ideally you would have the mic closer to the duo. Checkout the Rode Wireless GO II. You could have a lapel mic on each person and transmit to your phone with it 👍
Great vid, Mr. Manning. ;-) I especially appreciated the inclusion of that extension pole - that was awesome. I’m definitely going to pick up that up ! Thanks for that !! I actually just bought the Rode Vlogger Kit for my iPhone 11 Pro, but the mic doesn’t work with my case ! I think the only thing missing is a lightning cable extension, to be able to use the microphone. It would also be really convenient to be able to locate the mic close to the person speaking. Any recommendations there ?
hows the video's going using that setup with the extension pole on windy days? does everything manage to stay upright, or does it all flop over? thanks! and just use the rode wireless go to get a mic close to a person.
I always look forward to your videos. I love your enthusiasm (very infectious) and I love it when you laugh at yourself...and sorry...couldn't help but laugh at your skateboard "bite the dust" clip. I wish Rode products weren't so expensive! Looks like Movo makes a comparative version of this vlogger kit...
cool, I got my own kit similar, a switchpod with their bullhead, a lume cube and a manfrotto clamp style phone mount and a rode video micro I'm not a blogger or get in front of the camera I plan to use for quick video clips if I ever go back to working events. I just got the iPhone 12 I'am interested in that microphone though.
I noticed there is a 3.5mm female jack on the back of the microphone. Could I buy a "3.5mm to 3.5mm red coiled dangly bit" and use that mic to plug in to my GoPro mic adapter bit and use it with my GoPro? If not, I was thinking of buying maybe the Rode Vlogger kit for phones with 3.5mm and using the white dongle that comes with iPhone. I know it adds a dangly bit - but I could use it with both my iPhone and GoPro...
So YES, you can plug in a 3.5mm adapter for the Lighting version of the Rode mic, BUT mounting it is then difficult for the GoPro. It has a Lighting port as the foot, so no real spot on a GoPro setup to mount it😬 So I would think the Rode Vlogger Universal kit would be the best bet, because then you could easily use that Rode VideoMicro back and forth between your phone and GoPro👍
Just a quickie I got the kit a few days ago and there is yet a another feature at least on my version on the tripod the textured plastic collar moves a few degrees you can adjust the leg height. 😎
It depends on your case. Mainly the bit at the bottom where the lighting connector is. Unfortunately, my case has quite a bit of protection down there, so the microphone’s lightning cable won’t seat properly. But slimmer cases would for sure work👍
@@DavidManningvlog I use the Mous brand case in my iPhone 12 Pro Max- likely too thick for this scenario. Kind of a deal breaker to take the case off. I agree with you that Rode should sell the tripod separately. I am currently using the pixie by Manfrotto but agree with all your points.
Dude, it’s insane, so good! One big difference in the watching it on a big screen vs mobile debate is the color accuracy. When you walk into a Costco or Best Buy, go look at the TVs. If they’re all playing the same thing, you’ll notice drastically different colors, contrast, and blacks on all of them. With iPhones, they’re all basically the same for the last few years with minor upgrades each generation. That’s why everyone these days is color correcting for what’s basically a mobile standard and then saying the heck with it being watched on big screens. There’s also an almost 70% mobile watch rate on UA-cam videos👍
@@DavidManningvlog I watched on my big tv - still looked and sounded great. Good info on the color correction for a mobile standard. It makes sense these days!! I try to correct with a color checker passport when I can because I don’t trust my eyes or my monitor.
There have been a few issues with the iPhone 12 camera. I’m curious if you’ve experienced or noticed the weird exposure changing problem where areas like the sky creates this wave-like exposure flickering issue. I could see it a little bit in your videos and I’m curious if there’s a way you’ve found to minimize this. I bought the iPhone 12 Pro Max recently and got it replaced. But even with the replacement, it had the same camera issues. I checked with 5 other display units at the Apple store but same issue... Makes it almost impossible to shoot video 😢

What’s the Brand of your extension pole?
How do you know you're centered in the shot when you're not using the screen side of your phone?
You don’t! The worst part of vlogging on an iPhone! I wish they would up the quality of the front facing camera so you could use the screen as you film
@@DavidManningvlog I started vlogging as well. Would you be interested in checking out my terrible first video and giving me some tips? The channel is Pagotti79...first vid... ua-cam.com/video/BKoF7Z-6Mlg/v-deo.html
dudeee!! love this video .,.. u have a new fan from Chile
Great review! So what do they do to make connection of mic to phone stronger / safer. I see accidentally hitting the mic ant it’s a long leverage point to snap the connector off in phone.
first
btw i watch all your videos i love your go pro videos
I was first
Nice try tho

Hi David just wondering how you think this mic would go for recording an acoustic duo say 2m - 5m away??
It would work a whole lot better than not having it, but ideally you would have the mic closer to the duo. Checkout the Rode Wireless GO II. You could have a lapel mic on each person and transmit to your phone with it 👍
Спасибо, Дейвид!
Saludos!!!! Mic sounds super good 👍
Right?! I’m super impressed with this thing!
Great vid, Mr. Manning. ;-)
I especially appreciated the inclusion of that extension pole - that was awesome.
I like the test on the beach!
Can you send me the link for that tripod?
Link to all three kits in the description Carlos👍
Great video David...looking to get this rig now! Subbed.
I just got the iPhone 12 I'am interested in that microphone though.
super nice for your intoduction. May i ask what brand of extension pole ? or do you have affiliate link?
Great video as always, wish they made something like this for Samsung
They do! Check the links in the description. There's one for USB-C phones and one for 3.5mm jack phones👍
@@DavidManningvlog I knew I should have checked before I posted that lol thanks brother
Great video. Just in time for me to make a decision and grab that kit
Love the video mi hermano cuídate mucho gracia por sharing
very good explanation
Can the kit be used for shooting short films? But not like long distance scenes. I’m talking about for scenes that are closer
Can you plug the mic with the iPhone case on?
Glad I found your channel some great content but I just received my insta360 and mine only goes up not even a foot ???? How can I get the one you have
I ordered the wrong one....
sounds really really good
excellent review. Very professional.
Superb review, thanks!
Subbed 👍
If you could please can you do a review of the Razer Mini microphone
I like the hidden feature in the tripod, you can turn that dial to lock
the legs at a narrow or wider stance to stable the tripod. Nice design
If you make me buy another microphone my wife is gonna whoop your butt! LOL GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS
Just let her know that they're so you can hear her and listen better🤣
@@DavidManningvlog haha!
What an awesome review and your girl is adorable
Thank you so much! Super sweet of you to say! There's three of them now🤯
@@DavidManningvlog too cool. Keep up the great work man. Content is top notch.
With the extender you could get some drone-esque shots with it too
Can you use this setup while keeping a case on the iPhone?
It depends on your case. Mainly the bit at the bottom where the lighting connector is. Unfortunately, my case has quite a bit of protection down there, so the microphone’s lightning cable won’t seat properly. But slimmer cases would for sure work👍
@@DavidManningvlog I use the Mous brand case in my iPhone 12 Pro Max- likely too thick for this scenario. Kind of a deal breaker to take the case off. I agree with you that Rode should sell the tripod separately. I am currently using the pixie by Manfrotto but agree with all your points.
Can you link to the selfie stick extender you show toward the end of this video?
Hey, what stabilizer arm were you using?
Man, that iPhone 12 footage on the skateboard was so good and smooth. And it sounded awesome too. Seriously impressed.
Just curious . Did you watch this ep on your phone or tv ?
@@OGtalks Dammit - iPad. I'll watch out on my TV and see what it looks like on the big screen.
