3rd Gen Camaro Fuel Pump Hacked! [Good or Bad]

- Camaro Family's #IROCDaily fuel pump was hacked! A previous owner cut right through the carpet and a lot of the floor pan! Why would someone do this?
Is your third gen hacked too? If so, Detroit Speed offers a fuel door access kit that can be welded in. When we install our kit, we will post the video on the process.

Yeah I was going to replace the fuel pump on my 86 TA WS6. Could not drop the tank at my location so I was going to cut it felt bad. Pulled the carpet back and it was already cut open. Oh well.
LOL! Someone got to it first on your car. At least the didn’t cut through your carpet.
Yeah God damn I would never do this to my 88 iroc just drop the tank. It sucks but it's better than cutting the car.
@@hostileaks4495 Neither would I. It's pretty crazy the amount they cut my car. Way more than I have seen in other 3rdgens I've seen...but not THE worst I've seen.
Yeah I also have a 86 IROC with a carb. If I ever need to get to the sending unit, the tank's coming down on that car. It is too nice to do a hack job on it.
Wow its amazing what some people do to cut corners. Having changed several thirdgen fuel pumps yea the correct way it takes a litlle time but for the love of god do the job the correct way, especially when it looks to be such a nice car.
Yeah, it’s pretty crazy! I know they spent a lot of time hacking this car. Almost like they didn’t own a floor jack. I don’t get it.Yes it is an otherwise nice car for as old as it is. 👍
@Vm25ag shut up
There are good trap doors, then there are total fucking hack job chain saw massacre jobs where they cut back into the fucking reseat area lol. Good video either way..
Don’t cut your car up it only takes 4 to 5 hrs total to drop the Fuel tank and reinstall everything and that’s on jackstands with a rusted up exhaust and hand tools . Always check and make sure The fuel pressure is where it needs to be after you put the fuel tank back up and before you put the axle and exhaust back in place.
Sounds like sound advice from someone with experience. 👍👍
Where do you buy the kit for the gas tank
If its done correctly it is a very useful mod ..that is a travesty.. i have the DS fuel door.. why work harder.
Nice that yours is a DS. Mine is not clean, but I’ve seen worse. 😩😩😩
I agree. I have done several 3rd and 4th gen Camaro fuel pumps, and I give the owners an option before I do anything. Only one did not want the floor cut... I cannot understand why they cut the carpet! Drop the seat, and if it's a T-top car, unscrew the straps, and pull the carpet up. 2 people can work it back into place when finished, no need to remove any interior pieces... I always make my own flanges and screw the patch back on, then cover it with 2 inch butyl tape for a leak proof seal.
@@kennydemartini2169 Nice. I wish you had been on this job. 😉👍
The idea of an easy way to change a fuel pump is good.
A correct “Access Panel” is also a good idea…
Hacking a car…….not good at all
👍👌🚘
Thanks!
FFS - cut the carpet? seriously? that carpet easily unfolds 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yes! The hack that did this should not work on cars anymore. 🪚
