@Commonwealth Flipper: I am really in awe of you and some of the other content creators who have Ebay as their sole source of income. I work during the day, but list some evenings, on weekends, and occasionally on my days off. However, the fact that you source, film for two UA-cam channels, edit, work on listings, package and ship, it seems incredibly overwhelming. I realize that you have a teamwork dynamic that makes for lighter work, but I know it’s still a lot. Anyhow, I don’t have the team, but I’m still working toward reaching my 250 monthly listing cap and I appreciate your hard work. Having others in the Ebay community sharing their experiences and strategies really does help we, the small sellers. Thank you and your family for your reselling insights.
I did take mistake. Before I retired I was doing this part-time and continuously buying when I had no time to sell. Having money is actually a bad thing starting out. You jump on large purchases you are not knowledgeable on and not prepared to process. Thanks as always for speaking truth, Randy.
IMade that " buying before selling" mistake. When I started my official store I thought I had to have a big "presence " to get noticed. I way over and wrongly bought inventory. Lesson learned
I was the guy with the FSU jacket! Great to see everyone made a profit on it. Next time ask to buy it! lol
lol awesome
Too funny!😂
Might be your best video. UA-camrs like to appeal to newbies by telling them how EASY reselling is. Finding good stuff is not easy. You don't have to be an expert, but you do need to know the little things for each niche. As for the hoarder who has been buying for 6 mos without selling anything: She'll probably quit in the next six months.
I agree with you 100% on starting off selling what's around your house, and there's a whole essay on just that topic. That's the best way to test at a minimal cost what it's like to sell. Maybe you get into it and don't like it, but you've bought all that inventory? Then what happens? || Another point that's big with pre-buying is knowing trends in merchandise. Things come and go (mostly go) in and out of trend on eBay, and it's important to see where your inventory is on the latest sales trends so you don't become overstocked in potentially Dead inventory. Your Tupperware is a fine example, as is Corning Ware. Patterns or colors in those will come and go, and it's important to watch that. Also: keep up with what's happening in the Antiques market if that's your biz (it is mine.) Know what style is cycling in as another cycles out and price accordingly. If you do things based on characters (like superheroes, etc.) PLEASE know what new movies are coming out this year, AND when to get out of stuff. Example: I hope that by now the reader is not overstocked on Barbie stuff because that movie is trending out. Barbie is still big (if you have the right stuff) but no longer HUGE. || Finally, take advantage of Terapeak for long-tail sales that goes back 2 (?) years. If you have something like art or pricey antiques and collectibles that have less of a trend, research there is worth your time!
I started last August selling stuff I had in my house and stuff left over from my mother's estate sale (salt and pepper shakers etc.). I have sold some things purchased from a few yard sales last fall but haven't bought a whole lot. I personally think that this is the best way to 'get yer feet wet' and learn what sells and for what price. Build over time.
Yes, build over time and get into the habit of listing. Good luck! Keep at it. It is so great to find something unique that sells for big bucks!
Ohhh that closeup of the pink blooms on the branch was heavenly! 💕
Love your shows!!
As a crocheter myself...I have made those afghans. A lot of the time it's all about a person's tention with the crochet hook or skill level as to how loose or tight a blanket is
As a reseller I probably wouldn't get what my time in it is worth....ao i donate them to nursing homes
That is a wonderful thing to do. I know the residents appreciate them.
The space issue is so true and such an important part of it! Not only does it make it extremely difficult to be efficient, but it also limits purchases if you don’t have a dedicated space. I’ve done well to this point but I’m right at the point where I’ve grown enough that it’s becoming more and more of an issue. A separate space dedicated specifically to the task can change the game!
I bought things for a year and it took me that long to finally list and start selling. Now I’m going thru my “Treasure Pile” and finding out many items are not “treasure” and not worth listing. Yes money lost, but somethings are selling pretty good. If I could do it over I would not do it this way again. I find myself donating items because they’re not worth anything and I don’t want to be a hoarder 😂. The plus side is, when I do go thrifting now, what I purchase I list right away and the items I am buying now are better than the things I bought when I first started. I am more mindful of sell thru rates now too. I agree, get your feet wet first, start small and grow at a good pace for you as you’re learning the business.
I am a crocheter. The work that goes into making that blanket will never warrant the amount of work that goes into it. I just sold a white and pink three D floral kingsize blanket for 75$. I bought it for 7 bucks in okay condition as it had staining. I washed and it came out beautiful. Afghans are not getting the huge amounts that they used to. The race to the bottom has negatively effected a lot of categories.
Well stated & absolutely 100% correct. I will never understand how or why handmade afghans are undervalued beyond measure.
Finally got the much-cherished first like :)
The jacket story is the best! Flipped 4 times🤣
Good topics! We’re three months in and made most of the rookie mistakes. Reselling is complex and you have to be disciplined or you won’t make money.
Hi Kevin and family! Always good content even though I’m not a reseller. Love the out-tro today. Beautiful flowers.
I just made my first ebay sell, and luckily I have 1,000+ video games, dvd's, and clothing items around the house to sell before I'd need to buy anything to flip. That will give me time to hunt deals.
I have been actively selling full time for about a year now while watching videos all the time and feel I barely know anything at all. Learning how to list, the correct way to title the listing, photos, lighting, Vero items and crosslisting is a ton of things to learn along with having a system to categorize and store all items is a lot. The information is almost an overload at times. I am constantly looking everything up now and the comps is a must.
I agree sell stuff around your house first to learn on . I jumped into clothing and bought stuff to sell I made tons of mistakes. I would clean my closets first and start doing research
while I was waiting for them to sell. Watch videos and try to learn from people.
Some great points in your video for new sellers, Kevin. I've been a collector/reseller for over 20 years. One think I learned is to pay attention to details. A perfect example is a pattern of china made for Southern Pacific railroad. Prairie Mountain Wildflower has so many variations from the years it was made, some are worth more than others. The average picker (and I'm not being mean, here) won't know the difference from one piece to another.
Variation matters. Paying attention to details is great advice for a reseller. My 2c worth.
Have a great day everyone.
You’re 100% correct. I sold many Coleman lanterns however one sold for $766. I only paid five because I thought it was a typical $30 lantern. Found out there was a recall on this globe because they all cracked . The Coleman logo is blown in glass logo causing them to crack when they heat up. Very rare.
awwwwww sweet Noname snuggling w/ Reagan 🐈⬛💞......Great advice.... I love the acoustic music at the end!
Hi Kevin: I agree with the show today and like you I have made plenty of mistakes but I do believe I am getting better after eight years of selling. I esp appreciate the sell through comp advice. Thank you for all you do.
Another drama free example of how this should and can be done. No excuses no blubbering no pats on the head necessary.
This 100% happened to me I bought and bought and bought, i sold a decent amount but it got overwhelming really quickly. I had too much of it and never listed and then it got too much to go through. I ended up having a local auction company come to have sold at auction soon just to get rid of it. Looking at my storage container now basically being empty is a lot better feeling and I can start over again if I choose to and I'll 100% start listing anything I purchase right away with a newfound discipline for not buying everything I see. let me tell you when they took it down the road it was a great feeling to get that weight off
Thats EXACTLY what I did Kevin, i have two rooms FILLED with toys, vintage Star Trek items, movie posters i got for free, a TON of stuff, comic books, glasses….I started selling them off on ebay…and I don’t always get from thrift stores cause i already have so much stuff…but once in a while i do.
the learning curve when starting reselling is one of the most important things in my opinion, i've been doing this full time since the late 90's (used to be primarily flea markets) but my best advice is to not be afraid to make mistakes when starting out and never stop learning new niches , use your gut and make mistakes and take note of the mistakes , eventually you find your specific niche of items in your specific areas that you can find regularly, sell regularly, that has the least competition in your specific area and when you get that through making mistakes. Trust me, all the "wannabe's" are too scared to spend a buck!
Yes! The space issue. Home office isn't enough. My dining room and living room often fill up over the weekend until I rearrange my shelving and get orders shipped
I saw a show you did a while back about under valuing some of the items we list. If it’s too low, some people won’t even look at it because they think somethings wrong with it. Well, I had lowered all of my prices to get rid of stuff before me moving into a smaller house. I’m not out any money because I’m still selling stuff from my parents estate. Lowering the prices didn’t do much good, I sold very little. But…Just this past weekend I spent hours researching prices, sell thru rates, correct weights/postage and adjusted everything in my store to the actual prices I should have used. Raised the prices on almost everything by quite a bit. I’ve sold more in the past two days then I have in the last month. Who knew underpricing could be bad?😂😂😂 Thanks for more great advice. ❤
I am learning this, too!
Anytime you Revise a number of listings at once you will get more sales! The algorithm likes it!!
@@karentingler4937 yes. I do that too. 👍🏻
I always tell people to try and sell things around their house, even if they don't sell for much, to get the hang of selling, comping, shipping, etc before they spend a dime. I've known a few people who got really excited about it, and a few who decided it wasn't for them, for various reasons. It's really one of the few businesses you can start without spending anything.
I want to brag a little! I just started re-selling a year ago and I have had a few nice flips. Most of my stuff has been smaller but look...I bought a NIB Elph camera for $13.50 and sold it for $150.00, a vintage Alice in Wonderland book for $2.00 that sold for $175.00, and a rare Pokemon plushie for $1.00 that sold for $60.09.
I agree with the fact of not knowing what to buy initially is absolutely spot on but the bigger issue of buying before selling in my mind is what it really means to be a reseller. For many people buying is fun and selling is not. Sure the money coming in is good but to get there you don't just have buying. You also have cleaning, photos, listing, offers and then shipping. Even after that is complaints, returns and bookkeeping. It is simple but not easy. You need to start small, if not with what you have at home then with a limited amount of items - like a dozen. List them all before you buy more. See what goes into it. You may find you don't like some part of it that you HAVE to do and you may dislike it enough that you end up not wanting to be a reseller. Start small.
That tupperware drawer looks like my cupboard. My stacking bowls are long gone but I have everything else. That big dark red and clear container is great for marinading chicken. It has a great seal, and you can turn it over while marinading, and no leaking.
In regards to the afghans, don't be confused with the tightness of the crochet with an item that has been machine washed. Some of the older yarns had wool in them and tighten after washing.
I was about to make the same comment. The afghan on his chair looks like a woolen yarn improperly washed and then not blocked. Granny squares were to be slightly lacey and not too tight. Done right, it’s an airy and lovely agfhan
I don't mind long tail items if they're easy to store. More often than not I get them because they're in exceptional condition and stand out in the crowd and I can price very competitively.
The phones to me are great. I keep one around when something’s happens and I don’t get calls. So grab the old phone and take it out to the box on your house and plug it in. If you get a dial tone the main line is ok and your house has the problem. If no dial tone it is the companies fault.
Last week(ish) I found a salt shaker at an estate sale that sold for $160 within a week!
Among your BEST videos ever!!
Man! If I made the same purchasing mistakes that I did in the beginning, I wouldn't have continued. Rites of passage - one item at a time, as you are learning. Free items are a great way to learn, especially shipping - shipping can suck up a profit like no other. I count energy and time as one of the most important decisions in purchasing. If I buy things that suck up energy and time, I lose - no matter what the profit is. I consider my energy as important as money when sourcing. Then of course, there are always exceptions - like a childhood memory, or an item that needs to be saved from a landfill.
Good morning Kevin and Family ❤❤❤
Vintage Garfield is definitely a good find. I found a valentines Garfield from 1978 for $3 at the flea market and sold him for $27.
Yes, if your going to start buy you need to list as you get it. Prices change, not understand what it takes to ship items and also we all make mistakes buying items and end up not sell it.
Great advice, Kevin! I was one who collected things for years, intending to sell eventually. But it took me 5 years to work up the courage to do it! Don't know why it was so scary to me. Love your closing shots of the Eastern Redbud Tree and, fun fact, did you know the buds are edible? Apparently a green beany sour taste, good for salads, pickling and baked goods. I was today years old when I learned this.
Kevin, really good content…
Thanks,
John
Bought the same FSU jacket at my local flea market for $10 and sold it on Posh for $75. I love finding vintage starter
Kevin. Thanks for all the great knowledge that you have.I really appreciate it!!
Best thing I’ve found was a singing duck on a plaque like the Billy Bass fish. New in the box at GW. Sold for 350.00 cost 4 bucks. There were absolutely no comps for it. I do find weird sells!! I sell stuff I like and know for the most part because if it doesn’t sell I’ll keep it a while.
I’m a fellow Kentuckian! Thank you for sharing with us, I’m learning a lot from you and your content!
Actually I am from another Commonwealth. VA
Not too far! Saw the blue flag, but took a chance😂
I had a blast selling stuff from around the house when I started, we started by accident to begin with, and once we had ther account open we saw how easy it was to sell stuff. I've always loved thrifting and treasure hunting yardsales though, my mother always took me out bargain hunting with her as a kid...so for one, I already had a ton of thrift scores on hand that I 'really didn't need' lol, plus I've always loved thrifting. If some people watch a video of yours and think it'll be quick fun money, it can be, but it's more work than it is instant success and gratification, and if you don't already enjoy flea markets and thrifts you're probably not gonna suddenly start liking it haha.
I love selling Tupperware. Last year I bought two full truck loads of vintage (mostly new old stock) Tupperware. I made my money back in less than two months so everything I sell after that (which I have sold a bunch) is all profit. I still have probably 8 totes full of mostly new Tupperware that I continue to list so I don’t flood the market with it. What I end up not selling I will either sell at a yard sale or I am going to have a booth in a vintage farmers market. Either way- it was a great buy for me and I still continue to buy Tupperware.
Can I get a link to your eBay?
All great tips Kevin. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge.
2 years into this round and I still have to remember to check sell through rate.
I picked up Ciner and Julianna jewelry last weekend.
I started wrong, at least kind of. I started out just in person sales on forums, craigslist and eventually FBMP. I mostly sold larger and more expensive, but would have additional things thrown in, or find screaming deals on large lots of smaller lower $ items, that weren't worth in person sales. And I would hoard them saying that I would do eBay "one day". That finally happened when I caught covid and was going stir crazy in the house, and decided that one day was right now!
Yes, there were some bad buys in there, but luckily it already made my profit on the other things, so anything I'm getting now is recovery of sunk cost. But you're right, there's nothing like actually doing it to really hone your eye on what's actually worth something!
Random question, with all that land you have. Do you cut the grass or does a company come by to take care of it?
I started with stuff my dad and grandparents bought before I was even born, or at least was still in diapers. It had appreciated a bit in the meantime. That said, this was in the days when you could still take paper checks. My advice to would-be resellers is STAY OFF OF YOUR PHONES. If you have to google it, leave it. Search results on your phone can be misleading until you know how to parse the results. Know what you're buying before you're out there buying it. Once you get your feet wet, research and learn. Besides, while you're on your phone, an experienced collector/seller is scooping anything good while you're using your thumbs. Save the research on your phone for when you're a Kevin, buying in quantity. PS to Kevin - I buy some Build-a-Bears to rehome them. Vermont bears too, when they turn up.
Our Redbud trees are just starting to bloom here in Missouri.
I love watching and learning new items you sell-Question for you-I have a friend that started selling on eBay and they shut her down and asked her for her receipts . They have never asked me before. I have been selling going on my 3rd year this time. I can prove I buy my Mary kay makeup from consultants that have quit working for them. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong though. Have you heard anything about we need to start showing receipts ?
Thank you, -Pam
Great idea selling your own stuff at first, I Believe it makes other things easier to sell. Less sentimental value I guess I'm not sure. Less attached whatever you wanna call it. If you buy a bunch of stuff and not sell it ASAP you might get attached. I don't know just thinkin
I also call those style of blankets “Roseanne” blankets! 😅I thought I was the only one
The jacket is fun.😊
I started to feed my movie addiction. If a new version came out I would sell the old or something new that was purposely made limited I would retail arbitrage one to pay for both. That gave me at least a ok look at eBay. I didn’t really hop in to everything selling until years later and hole hog until Covid. I knew a lot but still I made a lot of mistakes when I got out of my little bubble. I make vhs money about once a week nothing crazy but usually a quarter into fifteen or more which is a roi I’ll take all day. I like buying grab bags of toys if they are low enough and I see a few things I can make money on in one of those I got a build a bear hot pink bow tie. Had a dime in solid it for ten. I have gotten better on checking sell through and it has doubled my sales. Watching you and others opened my eyes to things I would have never thought to look at but you do have to comp it and not blindly buy it.
Love the Endor tshirt!!!
Found a Chase Elliott Mountain Dew hat. At Goodwill for. 99. Sold for 25 plush shipping . Not bad.
CLL says she pays to learn when she makes mistakes 😊
comprehension is key
Hey Kevin what was the first thing u sold on Ebay? I'm sure u have answered this question before thanks
Nixon Kennedy debate cassette tape
No yard sales yet, but I have one saved for this weekend. Hopefully it’s inside because it’s still in the 30s.
Would have to say I agree and disagree with you on the bulk buying before starting reselling. If a collector goes and buys a bunch of items for their collection and later decides that they would rather sell them then they can essentially learn buying and market strategies JUST from being a consumer. However, to agree with you, it doesn't exactly fit the normal "Start with a small amount of capital and grow with time". Starting with a death pile sounds awful, but I think if the consumer is disciplined in their own purchases they will in turn grab better items because they already have the market knowledge. Just no selling experience. Really interesting to hear people start that way, but looking back, my collections are what funded my reselling business. So TLDR, it depends on the person lol
As a crocheter a new off the hook granny square afghan can run from 100 to 700, used it varies widely like you are saying =).
I made that mistake with ashtrays. Vintage best western and casino ashtrays. Fortunately I didn't spend much but 400 listed and 35 sold wasn't a great sell through rate lol.😅😅😅
6:40 I'm pretty sure that's the granny square blanket the lady paid $5 for, she was a viewer & you offered $10. She was happy because her husband says she has too much already.
She wasn’t a viewer but yes. Thats correct
@@commonwealthflipper So close lol
Do you use Pirateship or eBay shipping?
for ebay I almost always use ebay. I often use pirate ship on other platforms.
Hey just a reseller on Facebook Marketplace, just got flagged and under review... I listed Foster Grant Reading Glasses, they said it was under. Medical equipment, can't sell.. Let me know what you think, please.,.. Not trying to get kicked off of Marketplace.,
VHS tapes, as a rule of thumb need to be sealed to bring a lot of money or sell but some can still sell without being sealed if a good title. I don’t buy board games unless they are sealed or very old because of missing pieces.
Always exceptions s to the rules. The truth is many sealed vhs are also worth nothing and many unsealed board games can be excellent too
Not true... Old horror stuff sells great. Same with old horror books- it's surprising the amount of 80s mass produced horror paper backs that are worth 50+ dollars each.
Would you mind showing quicklly how you ship hats
Tips and Tricks! Get to an item before Kevin does!
How do you value an item you already own?!
I admit, i am guilty of stocking items to sell at a later date. But i also considered how much product id accumulate and how costly it would get if i bought serious items..
Therefore.. ive stuck to video game bundles, and bluerays/dvd/vhs/cds but only in brand new sealed condition..
Because of this rule ive accumulated 10k ish in these items for around 800$.
I bought a box of sealed blu rays and dvds last year for 40$. There was over 3k in product in that single large box alone (ebay selling prices)
Because they are new.. i would gain even MORE money if i sold some of these titles on amazon fba.
What im trying to say is, IF YOU MUST PRE BUY, have a plan and stick to a very popular category😂😂
How do you handle buyers that win a bid suction on ebay, but after the auction is over they request to cancel the order because they found the item cheaper somewhere else?
It is my understanding the seller can decline the cancel request; due to eBay policies that the buyer needs to follow eBay and seller policies.
End it relist it at a buy it now price higher then he bid with best offer on.
I never force the person to pay as that almost always leads too feedback Complications
Sell through rate may not be the right way to comp since some sellers know how to hide their sold items. That kinda bothers me. I forgot how it’s done, but some sellers have said they did this.
Kevin, I wanted to ask you how you are able to no longer say the name of the company that provided support to you to build the second cabin on your property. I know they were part of the bubble-wrap-gate, but I thought they would tell you that you needed to still advertise for them because they supported its creation. I understand the desire to not show their name, but I would figure you would get some push back from them on that. Not trying to stir the pot but I was just curious.
Oh I can say it and talk about them if I like. The contract had certain stipulations and length.
@@commonwealthflipper Thanks for the feed back. As always love the videos. I get so much more out of them and GatorBait and I will continue to watch.
I will take 2nd
The jacket story is the best! Flipped 4 times🤣
Would love to have your input, waiting for a response, didn't think I was doing anything wrong...
gotta list as you buy lol
Wow I'm surprised to hear you wouldn't pick up the leather Harley items in small sizes! It's one of the biggest myths that small sizes don't sell. I sell sizes XXS, XS, and small on depop all the time and those are the perfect aesthetic for that platform. It's a younger buyerbase so more people there who wear those sizes. And they don't just appeal to bikers - I go to anime conventions a couple times a year and I see tons of people wearing those types of leather items, in small sizes, so it's not really bikers that I'd try to sell to. Remember my generation doesn't shop on ebay but we still shop.
Good points. I don’t sell on depop
Thank😊
I think that everyone has their own niche you could sell something that I can't and. I could sell something that you can't
very true.
first time buyers list items for big $$ and the shipping is ridiculous they do not do their research on shipping.
Great video! Do you have a video discussing your learning curve for sourcing? I have been on eBay 19 years and I know how to look up items, check sold comps or using google lens but it is such a slow process. Just curious if you had a video discussing that learning curve and if not, would you consider it? Thanks
No. But my experience with eBay’s lens feature is much quicker than google bc you can get to the actual sold prices
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS!!
If you keep calling Mike a "nice" guy, you will ruin his reputation
lol
Sorry, under review...
The problem is you are selling these things because you are a you tuber. Regular ebayers probably wouldn’t sell these ( fairy)
Despite its appearance, being a UA-camr is not easy. Aside from the countless hours of videography, you need to have a very thick skin because you are under scrutiny/attack almost daily.
I don’t believe, if you are sourcing though garage sales or estate sales only and you don’t have a you tube channel generating addition income that you can be a full time reseller.
I love this comment because they think UA-camrs do it because it’s a legitimate strategy to resell. Two points, first is if it was that simple then everybody would be having success by doing it and second is that every single UA-cam reseller could not make it off of their viewer sales alone.
Literally proved the poor lpoint he made in the video
This is true of some of these items but the truth is I’ve been selling these things for 22 years long before UA-cam and the vast majority do not sell to viewers or would sell eventually to non viewers.
like you get a youtube check quit acting like your the voice of reseller's. You have subbs so just having that you have a whole stable to sell to. Some people actually only buy from you to get a shout out.
Yes. I am well aware of all these things. What would you have me do? Quit selling? Quit UA-cam? Or both. Or maybe I should just cancel every viewer sale?
Lol dude is obviously putting in the hours- if he didn't spend so much time making UA-cam content i bet his eBay store could be even better and make more money..
@@ResellingScores im betting his UA-cam money is right there with or if not more than his reselling revenue. He has what? 4 channels. So just by him making his 2nd channel he is basically saying it's just as profitable as reselling. Im not questioning whether he works hard or not.
@@commonwealthflipper no you don't gotta do nothing im simply pointing at facts. You are not a regular reseller
@@commonwealthflipper and i get it to Kevin your condescending attitude. Who am I anyways right just lowly subscriber basically a nobody.
H.R. Puff n' Stuff, can't do a little, cuz I can't get enough!
