Nice bike. Easy oil change video for beginners, but what about the 'old' oil that is still in the lines? Every five years I change out the old oil lines from the tank to the pump and back to the tank. With the new oil change, I disconnect the return line and connect another hose to a clear plastic jug. Using the starter (or kicker) with the spark plugs disconnected I turn the bike over off and on without overheating the starter in order to pump out the old oil that is still in the system until the new oil runs clear. I then reconnect the new return line that goes back to the oil tank. Now I know that all of the oil is as clean as it's going to get. Prior from doing all that, every five years or so, I also completely douche out the oil tank using Kerosene (this necessitates the oil tank removal…it’s not fun). On the other hand, anyone that just wants to change their oil, this is a great video.
Great looking Shovel!! I’ve got an 83 FXR Shovel same color and similar condition. My oil drain plug is on side of my tank but higher up it’s absolutely horrible design if I didn’t divert it it’d just run down the side of my bike. More Shovel videos please. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Awesome ! I'd love to see your 83 some day. Glad you enjoyed, I'll have a video premiering today around 12 pm where I am riding my 80/80. Check it out if you get time.
What? You shoulda started it man so we could hear the ol shovelhead lope, You have kept her in great shape man looks good for being an 80. I have a 81 heritage 83 fxwg. Once Ya get em out Ya never wanna put em up I know that.
Nice bike I have a 71 FLH Electra Glide. Don't agree with your choice of Running synthetic oil in a shovel. Straight 50 in cold and 60 in summer Valvoline
That looks a lot easier than the z1000 Sx tourer I have you know them has the ninja 1000 I know you don’t have to but I remove the whole fairings makes it easier anyway wishing you a very happy Christmas 🎄 to you and your family all the best for the new year from across the pond 🇬🇧 👍👍
Nice FB! Full Synthetic in a shovel? I’ve never, ever seen that recommended but it can be done today on a fresh build. Good luck and Keep an eye her with that slippery stuff in her veins. On a fresh rebuild with modern gasket material, synthetic is less of a concern. 20-50 Dino oil (cold weather) or straight 50 Dinosaur (summer heat) is what I’ve used. On on my second shovelhead having sold my first an ‘79 FXEF back in 1990.
Your bike is a beauty and superbly well cared for
On the shovel head Really see to change the oil Easy job
nice and simple 👍

@@FreedomRider1982 you're welcome
Kind of wish the new bikes had oil filters like yours. Merry Christmas to you Tom and your family !
Merry Christmas 2020 👍✌
you should run 60 wt harley oil or valvoline 60 wt race oil in shovelheads. 20 50 wt thins out too much.
thanks for watching and checking in with a comment 👍
I have always been told not to run 20-50 synthetic, use 60wt.. or 80wt oil ?
@@ridered7394 you were always told correctly...but only 50 winter 60 summer NO SYNTHETIC
Sae 50 most of the time sae 60 if it is hot. 20-50 ok in evos
Never use Harley oil, and never put synthetic in a Shovelhead.
Good vid and a great job showing an oil change on a Shovelhead!
Thanks for watching AND commenting ✌👍
Yeah that's different alright. Perfect example of another good reason to do your own maintenance when you found that missing bolt.
Merry Christmas 2020
Nice job. Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

What seat is that you have on your bike?
Honestly, I think it was a Harley seat but I'm not entirely sure.

I think it's funny the varied opinions on J&P. Personally I've always found them way overpriced, but maybe shipping to Florida is what always gets me
Running synthetic oil in a shovel? Never tried that.

Nice bike. 👍 I like the seat you have on your shovel. Can you tell me where you got it?
@@billmac3911 Thankyou for watching and commenting. Sorry, the previous owner installed the seat and I'm not sure where he got it. Have a great week !
