Currently your U1, U2, U3 settings are not being saved / loaded (known issue). I would love to have your complete setup. When the new firmware is released on May 16, will you upload an updated setup file?
Thanks for this review. Really helped. I’ve just received my z7 and am kinda new to mirrorless. This got me going filling in the blanks of which there were many.
This tutorial is fantastic. I was getting a little overwhelmed and put down my camera for a bit. But thanks to you Jared (also my son's name) I'm ready to resume.
Hi Jared, thanks for putting this video together... just bought my Z7 yesterday -and waiting for it- but I'll watch your video in 3 parts because man, it is a thorough video!
Great vid. I have the Z6 and the menus seem identical. I especially love the programming buttons on the front. On my Fn1 and Fn2 buttons, I programmed Fn1 to magnify 200% and the Fn2 to view previews. It is awesome how you can easily hit Fn2 to preview your last picture then hit Fn1 to magnify the preview or use Fn1 to magnify the item you are photographing with Fn1, all without moving your eye from the camera.
Great set up video ... I had to smile when you noticed you could move the menu by touch screen but you preferred to use the up down arrow thingys lol fun video.
Hi Jared, I liked like your videos. In my humble opinion, Nikon suffer of a great lack of customisation options. For example: - Missing EasyISO (like the d750); - focus mode changed is more slow to control (see again d750; - pad and joystick have similar function (or same) and are not customizable; - with the (external) flash turned on, it's not possess to use the exposure preview; - etc. I checked last canon mirrorless customisation and noticed the incredible number of features. Maybe all of this is not needed by many, but there would be better for all to have the possibility to change and choose the perfect ergonomic of buttons and gears. Ergonomic is an essential feature for a camera, and the Z are not so good to me. On the field this can make the difference, and can avoid loosing important shoots (just imagine wedding and reportage photographers). I'm trying to spread the word, so Nikon engineers can ask the photographers what they really need next time. I would really like to have your opinions, as well as for the expertise in the matter, also because you use more types of cameras. Thanks in advance.
Ahh Fro! I relied on your guide to setup my Z7 & didn't bother with the manual. I found you didn't get to go through mechanical v efcs. It's really important & makes the difference between crappy blurry shots & sharp shots.
Wow!! I just got my Z7. This video really lays out the basics. I feel confident going out to shoot now and play with what I've learned. Your really talk fast. LOL.
ISO plus front command dial changes auto ISO on and off. Also joystick has auto exposure lock when you press in the middle. These are available at default settings
5:37 - On page 77 in the manual (get the Z7Z6RM_(En)02.pdf manual from the Nikon USA site) the ISO can be set using the Command dial. However, to switch between Auto ISO and just normal ISO (where you set it) use the Sub-Command dial in front by your shutter finger.
Hi , can you give me recommendation for lenses for portrait , events .please . Planing to buy z7 .basically I am going to do parties, couple shoots in outside .
Thank you so much for the run down. It was very helpful. I have a question, why do some of my menu settings not allow me to change them? I noticed that you were able to change settings on your camera that I cannot.
Found this very helpful and I’m enjoying the Z7 One question your back screen shows the icons for setting down right side top to bottom My icons are across the top of screen, how do I change this ? Tried pressing the DISP button to flick through modes of view but this doesn’t change the orientation Of icons?
Great video... But I’ve got to say, if you don’t know how to put a battery or memory card in you should prob reevaluate the time you’re spending on UA-cam.
I found annoying loud clicking noise when switching back and forth between shooting mode and image review mode. Something to do with the IBIS, is this normal?
Can you please do a "Real World Review" of the Canon 80D ? I know its an old camera at this point but would love to know your thoughts on it, since you have already tested EOS R and the 6D mark ii.
"Has a touch screen"..."FRP...oops, well, I'll just leave it." Use the touch screen! :) I agree though, maybe a firmware update will change the keyboard layout.
I updated my z7ii to 1.50 firmware but my aperture and shutter speed lock says will not allpw me to turn off in cameras current setting or state. Any recommendations on what I'm doing wrong. I need to shut that off.
My Z7 11 wont let me display photo on the back of camera while I shoot on view finder set up. I used to be able to shoot and see immediately on the back but now no more?
Hi Jared, Thank you so much for doing this. A lot of the menus, starting with the intervelomentor and not functional. I tried putting in on Manual mode to give myself the maximum options, but a bunch of my menus are grayed out. What the heck. What do I need to do? I have v. 2.0 loaded. Can you help me?
hi Jared, I'm having an issue with the z6. when the flash is on the camera, the screen brightness/exposure (idk) gets really really bright! did you or anyone face this problem??
Raw uncompressed its always better because if the card or the file itself is damaged it is easier to recover the data than when you shoot raw compressed and on the other hand it takes processing time to compress and uncompress by the camera and also by the pc
Download my Z7 settings right here froknowsphoto.com/z7guide/
Do you plan to have a separate video or settings download for the Z6?
Rob Donchez I just watched the Video to set up my new Z6, it is basically the same, so I don‘t think it is necessary to put another Video up :)
@@820lukas Do you think the Z7 settings file will work on the Z6?
@@gumbymac72 I don't know because I did not use the file. I just took my Z6 and set it up during the Video :)

Canadian version has a special setting for Kraft Dinner still-lifes.
I dearly wish I could set a good focus confirmation beep, just like on the D800 and D850. I guess z7 will not.
Thank you!
Why WiFi/Blutooth options are greyed out? How can I turn them on?
Would the settings still load onto a Z6 from your Z7?
