You keep making the mistake of thinking TF2 has Overwatch influence, when it's the reverse. TF2 came out in 2007, Overwatch released in 2016. TF2 is nearing 20 years old. It's older than me!
I think he knows that TF2 helped inspire overwatch, that's just his only point of reference in comparison Edit: just watched to the end and he definitely knows
4:42 Yes, you are correct, that sparkly rocket was indeed a critical hit one. Often called by the TF2 community “Crockets”, It’s basically a one hit kill on anyone not Ubered
"Why the sparkles and the kitty and the lollipop?" If you had watched Valve's _Meet the Pyro_ character trailer, then you'd know why... Why are people watching LazyPurple's _How it Feels to Play X_ fan animations, when they have never actually watched the official "Meet the Team" videos from 2008-2012?? (Meet the Heavy, Meet the Soldier, Meet the Demoman etc etc. -> Important note: Make sure to watch them in the correct sequence!!!! Which is the sequence in which Valve origially published them.)
if you wanted to learn more about the hats and weapons i would recommend soundsmiths stereotypes and manns guides videos. the stereotype series goes over a few hats and weapons for each class and goes over the stereotypes of players who use them and the manns guide series is a more in depth guide on a few of the really unique weapons in the game
Canonically?? No. Pyro is a deeply mentally deranged individual that hallucinates a world of whimsy and childlike wonder. His mask has nothing to do with it.
Pyro actually inspired mechanics for 2 Overwatch characters, Genji(Deflection), and Mei(Spray Primary). Mei usually come to mind when people think of an Overwatch counterpart to Pyro.
1:54 Bruh, Soldier`s rockets are not the only thing, that considered a projectile in the game. 3:20 Pyrovision Goggles(thing that makes you see Pyroland) and Ghostly Gibus, literally first two cosmetics. Usually new players walk around wearing those. 3:46 You sound like you haven`t watched Meet the Pyro, which you, if I turn the logic on, have. 4:40 A crit rocket, oof. Yeah, good thing he airblasted it away. 7:09 Stop thinking about TF2 like about Overwatch. Though, those games has similarities, but they are different. 8:36 Or some Soldiers just don`t have a shotgun as a secondary weapon, like me. 14:21 Wha-ah. How didn`t you realise that?! That was shown clearly in Meet the S....h-have ya even watched Meet the Team? 15:09 Wow, didn`t expect for you sounds *that* surprised about that. Hm. I forgot, have Lazy told about that watch in Spy video? 18:38 Ahahaaaa, what I love about this video - is TF2 Freak themes. First, at Phlogistinator part there was playing theme, that was taken for RubberFruit and now a Demoman, who dressed up as Demopan!:D
The analog to pyro, having played both games pretty extensively, is absolutely mei. Not just for the w+m1 nature of their m1/primary attacks, but also for the reactions you get from the people around you. Pyro's airblast used to stun people while they were under the effect of its knockback, and Mei's primary fire literally stuns you if you get hit with it for too long. Mei's secondary fire is overwatch's analog to the flare gun secondaries for pyro, since you can hit the icicle easier once you have frozen them with her primary fire. Pyro's flare guns do more damage if the opponent is burning, which makes it rather comparable in my experience. Mei has an ice wall she can put up, and the nature of pyros flamethrowers make it very easy to use as a wall against spies and scouts. Finally, Mei has ice block, and ability that heals her over time while rendering her motionless and invulnerable. Pyro doesn't have a direct analog to this, but the backscratcher melee weapon, that makes health kits heal you 50% more at the cost of receiving 75% less healing from medics ends up relatively similarly in how they are used in non-stalling scenarios. While they are both perfectly fine characters balance-wise, newer players tend to gravitate towards them because of their low skill floor, which ends up triggering a lot of people on the other team. While I do think the stigma against pyros has dropped off since 2017 when pyros airblast stopped deleting all their movement options with one click, it is absolutely still a stigma that you can see in game if you play enough, despite the community mostly agreeing that sniper, with his ability to kill anyone, anywhere on the map, from any distance, without warning, in one shot, being more powerful. Mei is, last I played at least, in a similar spot to Pyro. They aren't the most powerful character, but people often say they need to be nerfed anyway, not because of their power level, but just because of how annoying they are to fight against. That's just my take on it though.
the thing about reflecting projectiles that it also turns them into mini-crits meaning it is kinda stronger then the original projectile that was thrown at you
the kittens and having the classes be portrayed as angel babies is based off the official short "meet the pyro" where we learn that is how he sees the world
If you wanna see one more about the cosmetics, I suggest watching "Most fashionable faction" by either stupendium or harry. They are the same just with a different endings.
The best character like pyro translate to overwatch, i think its Mei. Sure Mei not like pyro in support but blocking damag and cc with wall, main fire can slow enemies and help your teams kill the enemies faster, really help tanks like ryan and junker queen wirh their more melee style. Her self heal can act like a wall, can save team mates from dva bomb, even can block enemy from leaving in a certain room if you happen to heal in front of a door way. I guess I could bring up Mei can "track" sombra with her ice but let's be honest sombra is a pain for everyone
@JackalJoker: If you keep talking and talking over the video without pausing it, the audience can neither understand what you are saying nor understand what LazyPurple is saying in the video!
But for real you need to watch the EXTRAS from sniper since you watched it recently and then the EXTRAS from the Pyro video is like an episode 2 for each class
Pyro is the premiere close range combat class. Ironically compared to Mei bc they’re both “annoying” to ppl but being kind of different. Also TF2 is more quake inspired, being class based for customization and design rather than a modern day shitty hero shooter. Overwatch was inspired by tf2 as well as MOBA shooters, which birthed hero shooter games Edit: if you want more examples of pyro, I recommend watching some Pirateer and sketchek videos.
If your looking for things to react to during your challenge this month tf2 has a lot of reactable content Like pootis engage Or the TF2 stereotypes series by soundsmith
audio mixing needs a touch up, chonker. Can't hear much of your commentary sadly. Also, the whole "mother" jokes and stuff in the video is an ongoing joke, as Pyro's gender was never really revealed officially. Ingame, the tips use male and female pronouns; voice actor is male tho same as spy and theres a bunch feminine cosmetics, as well as the tf2 version of "wonderland" - how pyro sees the world (cosmetic overhaul of some maps, all voices and particle effects like flames transforming upon using those goggles of the sniper at 3:16 mins or using certain unlocks or cosmetics)
You keep making the mistake of thinking TF2 has Overwatch influence, when it's the reverse. TF2 came out in 2007, Overwatch released in 2016. TF2 is nearing 20 years old. It's older than me!
Wait, am i older than TF2? That's kinda scary
Mate, check your math, if it were 20 years old then it would need to have been made in 2004 because we are in 2024. It'll be twenty years old in 2027.

or someone with a ridiculous amount of hp example saxton hale
Or the absolute best weapon in the game, THE BATTALION'S BACKUP
Or on a random reflecting pyro
Don't forget the extra of how it feel to play, it is part of the siries.

pyro's mask cannonically changes his visuals to being all sparkley and child friendly hence the babys and sparkles and eh wot

Well if you want to learn a little bit about the hats and weapons. You could watch the soundsmith videos about them.
TF2 literally came out the same year i was born, it ABSOLUTELY influenced overwatch.
Also, this is the best one!
You were born the Same year TF2 released I was born before TF2 was released and I’m not even that old
Fun fact about the airblast is that it can deflect everything EXCEPT bullets
the kittens and having the classes be portrayed as angel babies is based off the official short "meet the pyro" where we learn that is how he sees the world
"good enough to play it and run it"
bruh
this shit was made in 2007
you could run it without a gpu if you really wanted to
