If you use Ancient Greenwarden, Ranumap Excuvator, or Crucible of Worlds you can play those lands again from your graveyard. With a mirror box or mirror gallery you could easily have an army of Merit Lage's.
I do really like this idea seems like it could be a fun deck with a couple "legend rule does not apply" effects and copy the token. Or go with some equipments to attach to the token

Marit Lage had its lore expanded upon in the new Magic comics series. Apparently it used to be an eldrich horror from Dominaria, but Jaya Balard was fighting the cult that worshipped it. Somthing happened where Jaya sent Marit into the Laylines between planes. There's more that happened with it, but I won't rant on unless anyone wants spoilers.
@@fotherphrogg Spoliers here BTW. Apparently Marit Lage was able to Survive in the laylines and Psychicly due to being in a giant iceberg and project its will into other planes. It couldn't manifest like the Eldrazi, but could build cults on other worlds to possibly summon it. Eventually, a Marit cult on Racnica used some kind of ritual to connect Lage to Jace Belarin. This created some kind of effect where Lage became a sort of meteorite in the sky of any plane where Jace went, Majora's Moon style. The gatewatch figured out a plan where if Jace teleported to a plane with no life, he could teleport away as Lage crashed onto the plane. They all Planeswalked to Amonket where the Gatewatch fought off hordes of zombies as Lage was about to hit Jace. Jace stayed behind as Lage his the plane, apparently sacrificing himself as Marit Lage made planetfall.
I was planning on putting Kura in my volo deck because I would get a death trigger immediately and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Maria large because when I first started playing when I was learning from kids at my middle school two of the were battling and I walked up and saw Marie lake and my jaw dropped. A 20/20 flier?! That has to be the best creature ever! I knew almost no cards at that point so that immediately what I thought and Marit lage has been on my mind ever since so now I’m defiantly gonna put dark depths and kura and thespian stage in my volo deck
i have a toggo/thrasios deck centered around toggo. I am using the dark depths/thespians stage combo. now, the deck churns out "meaningless" tokens like crazy, so the goal is to find brudiclad and mirror box. nothing quite like swinging out with a huge board of hasty 20/20 indestructible fliers. XD
A fun little combo for dark depths is where Solemnity is on the battlefield first then play the dark depths land. The land enters with no ice counters then it’s token effect triggers immediately. Then use mirror box to avoid the legend rule.
Nylea's Intervention is such an underrated card. It is in practically every green deck I run. It saved me many times when facing blue-white thopter spawning decks. Also Inscryption of abundance is amazing. Incredible value. It lives in my simic deck and is basically an early game lifeline.
Marit Lage: "I AM FLYING! I AM INDESTRUCTIBLE! BOW BEFORE ME AS I ENTER THE BATTLEFIELD-" Me: (reveals Mystic Reflection) Marit Lage: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Moral of the story: token decks are _super_ easy to screw with. Any bounce or flicker instant whatsoever (which tend to be really common in budget pods...) and it's dust.
To me, Archenemy is a deck you kill first even when they are behind and work together with other players to do so. I'm not sure this is that. Marit Is not a 1 hit kill normally, and is totally exposed to bounce.
nifty, although I'd imagine that this is a better card in a gitrog/muldrotha/land graveyard recursion theme where it becomes a recurring game ending threat at the cost of two land slots rather than a hasteless token that draws archenemy aggro
Nice. I remember one time I killed someone with a Phthisis on their Marit Lage. Phthisis is a 3BBB sorcery with suspend 5 for 1B that destroys target creature then that controller loses life equal to the creature's power plus its toughness. It doesn't have to destroy that creature for the life loss. Actually surprised that Phthisis isn't played more because it isn't as much as a spot remover as player remover in most cases.
I might be wrong, but I do believe you will end up sacrificing the original Dark Depths. The legendary trigger goes on the stack when you activate Thespians Stage. Then, the “no ice counters” ability goes on the stack over the legendary ability. The “no ice counters” trigger resolves (gaining you the Marit Lage token) and then the legendary trigger resolves even though the copied Dark Depths is no longer on the field. The trigger doesn’t dissipate from the stack just because there’s only one Dark Depths in play after the copy is sacrificed. Am I wrong?
This is correct. The thespian stage needs to be sacrificed when the ability resolves. If it's destroyed as part of the legend rule the effect will fizzle, as there is no longer a legal target for the effect. TL;DR the original has to be sacrificed unless you have a way to circumvent the legend rule.
The “legend rule” is not a trigger. It’s a state based effect, like when the game state checks if a creature has 0 toughness or has lethal damage marked on it. There’s not trigger that can be responded to; you simply choose which legend to keep and the other goes to the graveyard. But yes, you are correct in that in order to get Marit Lage, you have to put the original in the graveyard. The copy then checks to see that it has no ice counters on it and summons your eldritch nightmare horror.
I’ve been playing this deck and having a good time with it 🤣 I swapped a couple things out for mirror box and mirror gallery…. Is it possible to maybe do a break the bank episode or upgraded deck tech at all Mitch? Great work man as always, thanks!
So....... Solemnity does this as well. As an extra way to do this. Then of course a way to play land getting from the graveyard. Plus Mirror Box and your good each turn. Enjoy;)
@@yukiakiyama9419 Don't worry, I already did that with extra hate with praetors and anything else that can be annoying in green and black. Also got the full 4 man family of flesh bag marauder and the new one in Kamigawa.

I'm pretty sure dark depths stay on the battlefield. Since both triggers at the same time you can order them so the legendary rule checks after the dark depths counter thing triggers.
As much as I like this, I think you're missing out on a major synergy with the 1 and only other card that makes Marit Lage in "Marit Lage a Slumber", playing blue gives you access to a second generator, access to some counterspells for things that would bounce or exile your token, and you still have all of those sorceries that find the land pieces!

Vesuva is another version of Thespian's Stage. A bit more expensive but another target for redundancy can't hurt
Vesuva enters with the ice counters, so it doesn't really help.

It's already on the battlefield when it becomes a copy, so the "enters with" part is ignored.
