Every single time I watch this film, I notice another detail! I just finished yesterday and noticed that the coal chute grate in the basement has tiny crosses all over it. This is where the fresh air is felt in the pits of the basement/despair, which can be symbolic of the faith that begins to be felt down there and begins to transform Graham. It's also where the last hurdle must be surpassed be begin that journey back to his faith (the alien is right there!) So damn good!

I love how everything ties together and has a meaning. The movie had the perfect mix of comedy and thrill. I cant wrap my head around the hate Signs and The village recieve. They are truly 2 of my favorite films. I applaud M. Night Shyamalan.👏
I think the movie gets most of its reputation from people who were told what to think of it, rather than people who went in blind and developed their own opinion. Plus the ‘scary movie’ spoofs were huge back then, so when SM3 made fun of it I think that had a huge influence on people’s hate for it. It’s very much like how UA-camrs nowadays make a living trashing every movie that comes out now.
The last supper scene was such an incredible scene in the film. Even someone dead inside like myself could feel that scene. It felt so real and not forced.
I taught in a Catholic school for a while. One of the religion teachers used this movie to demonstrate how even a priest, in this case an Episcopal priest, can lose his faith and regain it and how God uses tragedy for a higher purpose.
