    I had no idea that my Cintiq Companion 2 had a screen protector on it.. there's tons of scratches from my pen, which I figured were on the actual screen, so I called Wacom and they said it would cost over $600 to replace the screen. I looked in the description of the device and there's no mention of it coming with a screen protector. Thanks for the video! You saved me tons of money haha

      @@TabletOsxBay hello, i know that this is an old video but i need help. I accidentally scratched my wacom screen, (very very tiny scratches) but i don't know if my wacom already has a screen protector. (because it's really hard to tell)

      @@Acme_the_rubberhose_dog what product do you own? A good amount of them do have screen protectors, i think aside from the newest ones with etched glass which i havent seen. Also if the etched glass looks anything like their old screen protectors I would send that shit back from day one. I like having the option to take it off and replace it with a clearer option. To tell if yours has a screen protector look at the edges of the screen, if there is a sliver of shiny screen at the very edge chances are it has a screen protector, also you can usually use your finger nail to feel for an edge to the screen protector. Again tell me what device it is and I will try to help you find out. Also if you fuck yours up its not my fault. :D

    Hi, I wanted to say thanks for this video. My Cintiq Companion Hybrid was awful. Seriously, it looked incredibly blurred in the middle of the screen at the point that when I really needed to see something sharp, I used another part of the screen.
    I followed this procedure and it was perfect.
    1) Taking out the old screen protector was much easier than what I expected. I removed the corners with my fingernails, didn't need to use any tool. Then I just took my time to remove it completely.
    2) Putting the new screen it was the most difficult part, but if you follow this video it is very easy and 0 bubbles will remain.
    The result is incredible. Seriously. I feel like I was blind.
    THANKS!

      Hey thanks! sorry to hear about your device, im not certain because I havent worked on any of this for a while but I have heard it has "etched glass" which afaik means the texture is literally etched into the glass, they probably did this with newer models because they were sick of me helping people fix theirs and making it look better, haha. All joking aside I will look into it for you, but you can try to check for yourself by looking at the edge of the screen to see if there is a little shiny lip, or around the camera hole if there is one. You should then be able to pick at it with your finger nail. I will see if i can find a better more definitive answer, please let me know if you do the same!

I used a thin exacto knife to peel up the corners, and just like this video it should remove the same. Seems like wacom cheaped out on the nibs/screens, because I didn't have to do this with my old 13in hybrid till after 3 years. It's only been 2 months with my 16 inch, and already have to replaced the nibs and screen. Oh well.

    I've been looking for over a year for some info about this. I have the companion and since the first day I wondered what would I do the day the screen got scratches and stuff on it. Today is the day! I'm taking that stock protector off!
    How has the new screen been working for you?
    I'm very curious about the whole "color improvement" you mention. Is it really that noticable??

    • @TabletOsxBay
      @TabletOsxBay  8 років тому

      +NaonBlake Sorry I was away a bit. Yes it makes a world of difference! I love the new screen protector and it fits like the stock one. The difference mainly is clarity. No more ugly rainbow grain. Did you do it? You will be glad you did.

    • @Sesly
      @Sesly 8 років тому +1

      +The CG Alchemist I did it, but I didn't have the right screen protector to replace it, so now I can see the streaks of light on the screen (in a white backgrounds, mostly, but still) 'cuz my new screen protector is a clar one, very thin and with no antiglare. It's a bit annoying, tho the colors are brighter and look a lot better. The stock film was.. pretty bad, to say the least.
      I ordered the same screen protector from photodon you did, and now I'm still waiting (I live in Chile lol), but I have high hopes. I hadn't realized how much I hated the rainbow grain thing until it was gone, so now I mostly need patience lol
      Thank you for your answer!

    • @TabletOsxBay
      @TabletOsxBay  8 років тому

    • @Sesly
      @Sesly 8 років тому +1

      Yeah, right now it's like drawng on glass!
      When I ordered the wrong screen protector it was around the time the companion came out and no one really sold screen films specifically for it. I didn't know better lol
      So I hope the photodon one will be great. Right now the screen looks almost like a mirror when it's off lol
      I'm crossing my fingers that the streaks of light will vanish with the new film. Comparing the stock film with the one I have right now, it was 10 times ticker, so that's probably why I see them now, but still. I'm a paranoid c:

    The other day I let my mother draw on the Companion and I didn't notice that she was wearing watch... yes, the screen got scratched. Quite noticeably.
    She didn't do anything she wouldn't do with her iPad, but of course... it's not an iPad, though it's much more expensive.
    It's frustrating 'cause I'm always so careful using and handling this device, and in 5 minutes it can get ruined...
    I'm relieved to see this video. I've ordered the same MXH protector from Photodon and will receive it in 2-3 weeks.
    I should have done this the first instant I ordered the Cintiq, but I didn't imagine the screen was so damn sensitive.
    Now I'm debating if I should remove the original protector or just stick the new one on top.
    I've heard that the warranty doesn't cover this kind of damage, that they charge 200 or 600 bucks to replace the whole screen. I have to call Wacom about this yet.
    It's shameful that they talk about "protecting your investment" during 4 years with a CarePack, but don't actually do a thing or take responsibility for their easily damageable screens.
    If the sample looks fine over the scratches, I'll stick it on top, or even, I'll pay the repair, and immediately cover it when it comes back.
    Or even, what the hell, I'll just remove the original protector and screw Wacom and their CarePack -and possibly myself.
    In the video the new protector looks better than the original, so I hope to end up with an even better Cintiq..!!
    I'm crossing fingers.
    Anyway, it's sh*itty from Wacom's part, for 2 grand one expects the screen (which is all it's worth) to be more durable than this.

    • @TabletOsxBay
      @TabletOsxBay  9 років тому

      I fully agree. I love my cintiq but it has some major short comings. The terrible stock screen protector, the performance and the battery life. If I were you I would swap out the stock protector all together. You would be really impressed by how nice the screen actually is without all the grain. Glad the video helped give you hope if nothing else. let me know what you decide to do and how it turns out.

I think a surface would suffice for many and the portability is great, however you cant hackintosh it and have it as compatible (pen/touch etc.). Also the cintiq pen experience is hands down the best. So id say if youre a hobbyist maybe not necessary but if you do this for a living id say go for it. @TabletOsxBay  9 років тому

      +Zak Ross well if you're used to wacom pro level stuff you would feel right at home with this. But portability wise you might want to see what the next surface has to offer. as for running osx, it doesn't make much difference performance wise. fan noise is really only a problem in very quiet environments. I couldn't even hear it when I was in a coffee shop.

    I have a colored scratch on my Cintiq 13 HD. I cant feel it to the touch, the nub of my pen goes over it smoothly, it doesn't appear to be growing, or doing anything untoward, but in the scratch pink and green light kind of flickers depending on the angle. I'd be curious to know how anybody would tackle this problem? The tablet had a long life before it found its way into my hands, bought it used, and id like to know what this colored scratch is and what if anything I can do about it. My first and best bet is to throw a screen protector on top of it and hope that levels out the visual imperfection and reinforces anything that might be weakening, but I'd appreciate any advice anyone might have.

    Hey man, the one with 25% antiglare from photodon, does it blur the image more than the Wacom stock one? I'm considering getting one, but I'm at europe so it's coming out at almost 100 bucks. I want to be sure it doesn't blur the image too much.

    • @TabletOsxBay

      No nothing close to stock wacom. Wacom stock was atrocious and i cant believe they released it with that. It had like this weird sparkle effect. I did a comparison of all the photodon screen protectors let me see if i can find it. But I would go with the one I use in all my videos, it had the right texture to clarity ratio, meaning it didnt degrade the screen res barely at all but still felt better than the wacom one.

    Just got the CC2 and happened to order that Photodon protector as well. Maybe I'll wait til warranty is up and try completely replacing the stock like you did. I expected some grain but not to this extent, and with the rainbowy effect too. Looks like the antiglare phone screen protectors from years ago. Plus I have to turn the display down to 1080p to draw smoothly in Photoshop on the i5. Kind of need to do it either way to use all my software that's not made for high PPI. So it's degraded the screen quality even worse as it's not the native resolution. Maybe swapping out that stock film will make 1080p look a little better.

I placed damp paper towels on the area for about 3 hours and took the edges off with my Kershaw Leek and it reduced the tack but it was still hard to remove. Anyway I got 3 different photodon screen protectos varying in percentage and put all of them on there. Sounds strange but it worked.

      @TabletOsxBay  9 років тому

    • @shoujoluvr707
      @shoujoluvr707 9 років тому

      Yeah. I got the 10%, 25% and 35% antiglare films on mine. Reason is that once I took off the stock screen coating, there was this odd glare on the screen... Like, really fine lines of light running horizontally and they were super annoying and stressed out my eyes. So all three of those screen protectors hid the lines while keeping clarity. Which screen protector did you get again?

    • @TabletOsxBay
      @TabletOsxBay  9 років тому

      +princessprince onemorekiss that sounds like a strange problem. were the lines uniform? could be the digitizer, but I imagine one screen protector would mask any of that. I got the MXH 25% anti glare. it's very clear with just enough anti glare and texture. I love it.

      When he returned he said "removing the screen" would void the warranty.
      I didn't feel up to explaining to him (yet again) that I did not want to remove the screen itself - just the plastic on the screen.
