    Thank you for showing us your work and these gorgeous quilts. My favourite is the yellow quilt, so beautiful. What an accomplishment for a relatively new quilter, really impressive skills. When I was in high school in Tasmania a thousand years ago, my art teacher, Mrs. Blake, taught us how to make batik fabric using wax, carved out potatoes for stamps, and powdered dye. It was MAGIC! Of course, my fabric was only about the size of a large pillow, but such fun. I also used that dye as watercolor paint.

    Graduations on your new machine! You deserve it. I admire your work ethic that even when you’re out of town on a trip with your husband and could be off doing fun things you still Quilt at your hotel, and in the evenings when you could just be resting or watching TV. Tell me you are an amazing woman and one of these days I’m going to send you a quilt from Kansas.

I was excited to see your progress on the Kansas Troubles Meadowlark quilt. I really like Lynn's fabrics, and have a little collection. So happy that I was able to find the pattern online. Awesome that you got to meet Lisa and tour her facilities!

    Congratulations on the new addition! Please investigate using zippers on your leaders. I recently converted to zippers on my Amara and I LOVE them! It is so much easier on your hands and loads straight every time. I did keep my old red snapper leaders, just in case, and bought new leaders for the zippers. I just use two zips for the backing only as I float the top. Please think about this to help your hands. / Jean

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому

      I have thought about it. Do you load your quilts onto the zippers with pins? Staples? I'd love to know.

    • @CattyWillow
      @CattyWillow 3 місяці тому

      @@tammieearnest I sew the zipper leaders to the top and bottom of the back only at the regular sewing machine with a very long stitch and scrap thread so it will be easy to remove. The UA-cam video about how to install them and the instructions on the zippers themselves were very confusing so I did them the way I wanted them. There is one permanent zipper side sewn onto the regular HQ leader and the corresponding part of the zipper is permanently sewn to a cloth leader (10-inch wide by length of the HQ leader) I made from a sturdy but not too heavy fabric (sailcloth maybe?). I made a one-inch hem on the side of that (just to make it stronger) which is where you sew the backing each time. Some people just rip off the backing from the zipper tape or zipper leader at the finish, but I use a seam ripper which is pretty fast and I can sit in an easy chair to do it. Those snappers were killing my hands and back, and this is so much better. You can buy the zippers and HQ leaders on Amazon and I made the extensions from JoAnn fabric. You could sew the zipper tape directly to the backing but that seems harder to me and this keeps the big machine far away from the zipper, just in case. I do not think the zipper would last long without its own leader. I float the top, but you could make a leader for the top, too, but I cannot imagine how to do that and still be able to reach the bottom edge unless you just pin it on. If you want photos, let me know and I will email to you. One good thing is getting rid of the snapper causing the take-up roll to be uneven and taking up space. I have a little more throat space without the snaps to deal with. You could make multiple zipper leaders with just one side of the zipper on a leader and install on multiple backings to save time in loading. You will not need more HQ leaders, just the halves you make yourself. Congrats on the second machine! You are making me dizzy! So busy! Jean

    • @CattyWillow
      @CattyWillow 3 місяці тому

      Also, after quilt is finished and still on the frame, I just carefully cut the backing off with scissors, leaving just a narrow strip of backing sewn to the zipper leader which is what you take to the easy chair.

    I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about triangles on a roll. I too haven't tried those. I love how the Commission quilt is coming along...I love the fabrics. I L❤VE the Vintage Valentine pantograph as well as the way the appliqued hearts form a heart. Great idea for memory quilts! Both of Jane's quilts are beautiful and I think the second quilt is STUNNING. It's hard to believe that she is a fairly new quilter. The pieced backing is so creative!
    I am happy that your long-arm business is doing well and your new work area is wonderful. Each quilt shown today is, as always, wonderfully done and very inspiring.

I recently watched the Fabric Patch video in which they did a quilting cruise to several countries and they were able to visit one of the Hoffman locations where they do Batiks. The whole process is amazing, especially since it is in a very primitive location. It is worth watching, and I love Batiks. Happy quilting.

    Congratualation!!! Tammy on your 2nd Long Arm and your new bedroom, also your new longarm room. Just a tip for your 1/2 square triangles to keep them all together. You can seperate them by using sandwich bags, also placing them in a empty Fat Quarter monthly subscription box.You will love the triangle on the roll for the accracy. I'm currently working on Lisa Bongeans free QAL from over a year ago. and it 1,152.... 1 1/2" unfinished 1/2 square triangles. So this is what I'm working on while watching this episode.

    I was told that the dimple side “should be” facing the backing. The reason that I was given was so that the fuzzy side wouldn’t be able to be pushed through the backing with the needle. I always load fuzzy side up.

    Hi Tammie! I’ve heard you mention The Longarm League and wondering about the ‘Rookie Season’. Did you do the Rookie Season and what are your thoughts? The only thing holding me back is the cost. Thank you! Terri

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому

      Hi Terri. Yes, I did the Rookie Season. Although I had already had been running my business for a few years, I had tried to figure things out on my own. So I took Rookie Season to be sure I had done everything right! I learned a lot. Sometimes it's worth paying for someone else's expertise, experience, wisdom and hand holding.
      There is A LOT of information in the course. Everything from setting up your business legally, working with clients, setting up your website and accounting systems, longarm basics, setting up wholesale accounts, etc.
      I really depends at what point you are in your business as well as how confident you are in figuring things out for yourself. Hope this helps. I do have an affiliate link if you'd like to use it, but no pressure.
