Dutch law states that you should always drive at the far right of the road. He still had to move over even if the cop isn’t on a blue light run. If you stay in the left/middle lane while there is room on the right side this can result in a fine of €270,-
No, you have to follow a police officer his directions and orders in traffic. The bleu flash light and siren are only to inform you that a vehicle is approaching with first right of way. You have to know that for your theoretic examination for your drivers license. His orders and directions go above all other traffic rules. The police officer can even be in civilian clothes on a civilian looking motor bike. He will let you now he is police by a display or verbally, you have to follow his orders in that case also.
@@theovanderstorm3171 Ok, no, at least not here. Blue lights do not give right of way, and their orders and directions do not supersede all traffic rules. They are afforded a great many powers, but they are not god. When running blue lights you must not obstruct them, that much is true. But lights for them means "proceed with caution", the road traffic act is quite explicit in mentioning that they do not have implied right of way. They must not drive in a manner that endangers the public. Irrespective of blue lights. A police officer must also not give you an order that contravenes the law, or an order that would endanger you. All traffic rules are safety related, so they must not give you an order that tells you to disobey that, as it could cause an accident. Blue lights mean absolutely nothing if the action you would have to take would endanger you, other road users, or the emergency service vehicle. They have a duty of care and no order they give must violate that, their driving must also not violate that. You are also allowed to ask for ID before following any orders from a police officer in civilian clothes. Make no mistake, I am not suggesting for a moment that anybody should hinder the emergency services in any way. They do very important work and you should do everything in your power to allow them to safely pass you. But from a legal standpoint, your knowledge of the law when it comes to blue lights is flawed at best. In case you think "oh what does he know". I have done the emergency services blue light training. The biggest thing that was impressed in said training is you absolutely DO NOT have right of way, it is proceed with caution, and you must not endanger any other road user.

Only with lights and sirens they are priority vehicles, otherwise you don't have to make way for them.
Police should keep sirens on if they want to pass. Last week I had a police van without sirens driving behind me on my motorcycle around 1m behind me. I couldnt move over the lane because it was a double solid white line which is forbidden to cross. I crossed this exact same line in the same place to let a police car with sirens pass a year earlier and he was actually trying to pull me over and I hadnt realised yet. When he stopped me he threatened me with a ticket for crossing the double white line. I said "I was letting you pass" and he said "but it is still forbidden" 😂 sometimes you cannot possibly do the right thing according to Police.

@@OldLordSpeedycouple of things not quite right: it’s snelweg not autobahn (we’re not German). The whole idea of these roadclearing trips is to clear traffic in advance of the ambulance so the ambulance can keep a constant speed. More comfortable for the patient. Hence you’ll see the motorcycle speed up to close the gap with traffic in front, so that he (or she) can get the lane cleared in time. The cops don’t drive at a steady 200kph, usually their speed is much lower (since the ambulance driver should not exceed certain speed limits, again for the comfort of their patient). Finally, traffic on Dutch snelwegen tend to drive at around the speed limit so 100-105kmph during the day and 130-140 after 7PM (when speed limits are adjusted). The speed difference between traffic and cops is therefore barely ever as big as you make it out to be.
they should habe some prepared recording they can put over the speaker for the highway. stay out of left lane for ambulance or in the city: don't move into intersection until ambulance arrives...
I work in the traffic control centre (Rijkswaterstaat) here in the Netherlands, and in some cases we are in contact with the ambulance driver via radio or telephone and we will put red crosses above the left lane so no other drivers can use that lane and thus make it free of traffic.
Back when there was only FM and Phillips Cassette tape, there where some experiments with RDS, But nowadays with DSB+, bluetooth and Apple/Android Auto, there is no guarantee that people are listening to a local station for the Ambulance to jam. Flitsmeister navigation responds to signals from emergency vehicles. But that is a paid app and radar warning devices are illegal in some European nations.
These are motorcyclists from Team Verkeer Den Haag and have been specially trained for this. It is not only about being able to ride a motorcycle very well, but also being able to shift gears very quickly and read traffic. Many very good motorcyclists fail the training to be allowed to perform such escorts. Team Traffic not only escorts ambulances, but also dignitaries, government leaders and all other transport that requires police guidance. If there is no escort, they are just officers who work the regular shift.
@4:20 min with 170 kilometers per hour through a 70 kilometer bend, thought they were allowed to go a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour too fast in these situations?
@Emergency P.O.V interesting concept of driving a bike at speed and expecting cars to use that thing called a rear veiw mirror or indeed any mirror to see the bike,, regardless of being fully marked up and moving over without sirens or lights on,, because with lights and sirens on he was still struggling to clear traffic out of the way...also remember a bike is a lot less big then a car,, eg alot less of a physical presence then a car to spot and dominate the road space..and i know a bit about that aspect because i ride a bike.
Hey dude, traffic is supposed to move over BUT... They do NOT have to put themselves or others in danger. So if somebody moves over 'slowly' in your opinion, that is tough luck.
1:40 Incorrect! Because the siren and lights are out, the white vehicle has no reason to believe the cop is on the road for an emergency. If a cop is behind you and their lights and sirens are not enables there is 0 obligation to move over. The driver of the car moved over immediately as soon as the lights and sirens came on. The only person to fault for this situation is the cop, he should have kept his lights on. 2:40 Almost got hit? How does a guy get hit by hitting someone in front of him? Nonsense. Lastly, the only bit of commentary you provided that was of any informative value was that the cops are needed so the Ambulance can navigate the busy streets and crossings of Rotterdam safely. For the rest the commentary has been full of incorrect assumptions and misinformation. It's clear you don't know what you're talking about.
Even with only blue lights, they are not obligated to move over. Only blue and no sirens means that they are NOT a priority vehicle, but it's best to treat them that way, though.
The Netherlands is 200 by 130 miles, and while there are medical helicopters, these are generally used to deploy doctors specialized in trauma, triage and first aid, not so much for airlifts, except maybe on the Dutch Wadden isles in the north, or the Zeeuwse eilanden in the southwest.
@@temp5782 No, they are not. They charge hefty fees for transporting you, but the health insurance, which is compulsory for everyone in the Netherlands, pays these bills.
Been there done that and would never turn off the equipment. Most of those drivers probably looking at their mobiles. I see dozens every day but in the uk we very rarely see a police officer in the streets to give them a ticket.
1:35 - As you said, the police motorcyclist's lights and sirens are off. "...but doesn't seem to understand the cop's intentions"? Did you bother considering that the driver hadn't even noticed the police officer come out of their blindspot because the officer's lights and sirens were off? I don't understand why he repeatedly turned his lights and sirens off as he was dealing with an emergency the entire way and keeping them on would help alert the traffic ahead. 2:34 - "The cop almost got hit"? I call BS. Yes, the van driver was slow in moving over but never moved towards the police officer who was aware of the van's movements at all times. If there had been a collision it would have been the cop's fault not the van driver's. Overall, the teamwork was good but there could have been better effective use of their numbers. Example, at the first intersection, a second officer could have blocked off the right lane to keep it free instead additional vehicles kept filtering in.
20 years ago the CEO of Audi said " we are at best / top of engineering- what will sell a car now is IN CAR ENTERTAINMENTS," - result: slow and slower reactions to hazards and observations , little minds stuck to little screens 😅
We have the SAME problem in the UK . Some drivers are SO UNAWARE of what is around them , even with noise . problem is you never know if they are in drink or drugs as well as just not looking .
Wow, this is not one 'according to the book': 5:35: the ambulance overtaking a police officer... not the way it's done normally (to avoid causing extra stress to the patient inside the ambulance, the ambulance NEVER overtakes a police officer).
As a dutch person, I like the video, but please get your facts straight, coming from A12 Zoetermeer going onto the exit, you go to Highway A13 & Highway A4, not A20, thats a few kilometers further down the road

How do they use their right hand to wave cars to the right? The right hand is the throttle! As soon as you tell them to move over you have the hand off the throttle, and are going to slow down, and they go past? Left hand traffic can do it, as the left hand is the clutch, not needed to maintain speed, just to change down. You can change up a gear without the clutch.
I believe the throttle is modified so it does not immediately return to the idle position. Also if you are at speed you can pull the clutch so you can ride without propulsion on the engine
The video states the speed limit during the day is 100kph on all Dutch freeways. This is not correct. The speedlimit on all dutch freeways is 130kph unless otherwise specified. Granted, in most places during the day the speedlimit will be 100kph but that is not necessarily always the case.
That's the problem here in the Netherlands the drivers of vans and cars think they need to ride on the middle lane when there are 3 lanes or more on the highway. Those are just dumb drivers that should go back to drivers school to take some lessons again.
Honestly, to me, the aggressive slapping roofs and hoods, along with the aggressive waving left and right to me appears way more dangerous than it should be.
They are more often not planned then other way around. Think about a traffic accident where there are heavy injuries. I've worked for the Rotterdam Police and almost every month there where emergency transports where the Police squad cars assists to free up crossings. The fact that you don't see them in this video tells me that this was not a planned ride.

Only critical emergency, I think. So, unless you have a patient that will die in 30 min without critical care, then it just be a regular ambulance trying to get through traffic

Because the have no back window. And the look less in their mirrors.
they should habe some prepared recording they can put over the speaker for the highway. stay out of left lane for ambulance or in the city: don't move into intersection until ambulance arrives...
In the future there will be notifications on all the car screens, some traffic apps already have it.
they have had it on the radio of the cars but I don't know why they stopped it
The coordination between police and those who manages roads is too slow as of now, but in the future I'm pretty sure they'll input this feature.
I work in the traffic control centre (Rijkswaterstaat) here in the Netherlands, and in some cases we are in contact with the ambulance driver via radio or telephone and we will put red crosses above the left lane so no other drivers can use that lane and thus make it free of traffic.
Back when there was only FM and Phillips Cassette tape, there where some experiments with RDS,
But nowadays with DSB+, bluetooth and Apple/Android Auto, there is no guarantee that people are listening to a local station for the Ambulance to jam.
Flitsmeister navigation responds to signals from emergency vehicles. But that is a paid app and radar warning devices are illegal in some European nations.
When I cycled to Erasmus MC with a broken finger, I wasn't offered a police escort for my Swapfiets 🤣
@4:20 min with 170 kilometers per hour through a 70 kilometer bend,
thought they were allowed to go a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour too fast in these situations?
You have no business in the left lane when the right one is clear...
You are required by law to move to the right lane
Awesome bikes
Here in the USA we don’t ever have police help with traffic when come EMS
But the USA has taken flights helicopters for the most cases
The Netherlands is 200 by 130 miles, and while there are medical helicopters, these are generally used to deploy doctors specialized in trauma, triage and first aid, not so much for airlifts, except maybe on the Dutch Wadden isles in the north, or the Zeeuwse eilanden in the southwest.
Ambulances and helicopters are free in The Netherlands.
@@temp5782 No, they are not. They charge hefty fees for transporting you, but the health insurance, which is compulsory for everyone in the Netherlands, pays these bills.

Is there a link to the original video?
Been there done that and would never turn off the equipment. Most of those drivers probably looking at their mobiles. I see dozens every day but in the uk we very rarely see a police officer in the streets to give them a ticket.
The title is pretty clickbaity, the only dangerous situation was at 1:44 and completely caused by the policeman himself
Why did you use the freedom units?
For all the viewers from Liberia and that one other country that still uses that archaic system.
Fantastisch werk mannen!
Video’s like this make me proud about holland🤩
Not only radios just look how much people and especially the young drivers (beginner) find their smartphone more important then traffic
We have the SAME problem in the UK . Some drivers are SO UNAWARE of what is around them , even with noise . problem is you never know if they are in drink or drugs as well as just not looking .
These 'motor mice' - as we Dutch tend to call them - are the bees knees of the Dutch police force.
Highly respected by Dutch citizens.
The police would be at fault if he had hit the vehicle. Still have a duty of care.
Can't say the cop almost got hit, the cop almost hit the van
Not even close to a hit. Police was in control and just wanted the van to move all the way to the other lane and not just to let him pass.
Wow, this is not one 'according to the book': 5:35: the ambulance overtaking a police officer... not the way it's done normally (to avoid causing extra stress to the patient inside the ambulance, the ambulance NEVER overtakes a police officer).
You don't have to move over for ambulances in the Netherlands?
No, not for any emergency. Only give right of way.
Jeremy DeWitte WISHES he was this legit and well coordinated
As a dutch person, I like the video, but please get your facts straight, coming from A12 Zoetermeer going onto the exit, you go to Highway A13 & Highway A4, not A20, thats a few kilometers further down the road
Leuk dat het Engels ook echt Engels is en geen 'verengelst' Nederlands.
To be fair most Dutch can speak English as well as we can and even those that can't can speak it better than most of us can speak any foreign language.
Moving work of the policemen.
Netherlands is not restricted to 62 mph, they don't use old money. We are in the present, and use METRIC.
62 mph, 100 km/h, first bike was cruising at 155 km/h, 100mph on the 3 lane! not everyone is familiar with metric, don't hold it against them!!
@@davidoshea1837 There is only ONE country, in the whole world, that is stuck in the past with imperial. The civilised world is either 100% metric, or dual use.

It's a special trained escort unit of the Dutch Police.
No it's not.
Every cops gets this training.
Cruise control probably
see the specs off their BMW R1250RT
@@ivortoad correct
I believe the throttle is modified so it does not immediately return to the idle position. Also if you are at speed you can pull the clutch so you can ride without propulsion on the engine
The video states the speed limit during the day is 100kph on all Dutch freeways. This is not correct. The speedlimit on all dutch freeways is 130kph unless otherwise specified. Granted, in most places during the day the speedlimit will be 100kph but that is not necessarily always the case.
160 km/h wow! 😮
2:23 is not the a20 its the a13 (i life near it so yhea)
That's the problem here in the Netherlands the drivers of vans and cars think they need to ride on the middle lane when there are 3 lanes or more on the highway.
Those are just dumb drivers that should go back to drivers school to take some lessons again.
French motor police use a kind of waiving pattern when clearing the highway. This works even better I think.
Honestly, to me, the aggressive slapping roofs and hoods, along with the aggressive waving left and right to me appears way more dangerous than it should be.
Extremely misleading title
The first line of commentary is completely wrong. These rides don't just pop up. They are planned.
not always
They are more often not planned then other way around. Think about a traffic accident where there are heavy injuries. I've worked for the Rotterdam Police and almost every month there where emergency transports where the Police squad cars assists to free up crossings. The fact that you don't see them in this video tells me that this was not a planned ride.
62 miles=100 km in the netherlands
Super Quick
What’s with the 62 miles speed limit
First class training for the police riders and drivers , on top of that they are smart yet decent people..I spent 48 years as an international trucker and was regularly in Holland going back to the 1970s , I was never stopped once by the Dutch police basically because I followed the rules kept a clean safe truck and was also a professional driver…
2:40 no… Not the cop nearly got hit, HE nearly Hit the car….
what, how did he almost get hit?
Missed where I can see the "tramps" what's the timestamp
Does every ambulance require a police escort?
Only critical emergency, I think.
So, unless you have a patient that will die in 30 min without critical care, then it just be a regular ambulance trying to get through traffic
@@nekotranslates thanks, I watched more pov videos and quickly answered my question when I realised how congested some of these roads can be!
Met 135 op de motor door het centrum van Rotterdam 😳
"Multiple intersections with cars, bikers, pedestrians and even some tramps"
Aren't tramps pedestrians too?
Why yhe the hell did he even closed them
Cop with no sirens and no light = regular traffic participant. Funny enough the motor cop was way too close to that silver car and that car probably thought the cop was being an asshole
its a highway
I hate these videos, literally clickbait titles and incorrect information, the officer was no where close to getting hit, the lack of knowledge influencers have now Is hilarious
Nobody is restricted to 62 mph on Dutch freeways.
In NZ light's on Kiwi's move over, common sense, sadly we have people from overseas, who don't give a rat's,
Even at the Red light's,if you're in the lane the responders want to use,you drive through the intersection.to let them go,
Remember people keep left unless overtaking ITS THE LAW in the uk
WOW.
The statement you start of with is pure nonsense. All drivers are obliged to make way for an ambulance with sirens and warning lights, they don't need police with sirens and warning lights for that. It does help though, obviously.
