Quitting porn is extremely difficult compared to quitting other addictions. I think this is because, unlike other addictions, porn addiction is deeply intertwined with the reproduction part of the brain, and reproduction is one of our strongest primitive instincts. Your brain doesn't panic quite as much when you quit other things; however, when you quit porn, your brain thinks that you've gone from reproducing multiple times a day to zero times a day. It's going to severely punish you for this because it thinks you've suddenly given up on your biological imperative. This is probably why PAWS (Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome) seems to last longer with quitting porn than it does with quitting other addictions. I've seen several anecdotes on the NoFap forum in which people said that quitting nicotine and alcohol was infinitely easier than quitting porn, and there was even one person who said that it took less time to recover from quitting a cocaine addiction.

At first I thought these 5 steps were yet another superficial bunch of steps, but I instantly noticed the man (Mark Tyrell) is worth listening to. I must check out more of this channel. This video not clickbait. Not sure about the History Channel and learning about history, though :) you might have to unlearn a lot of knowledge afterward. Hahah.
On a serious note, the video does not delve into the whys of why people get addicted (to porn, or alcoholism, or self-harm). Possible reasons are to take the easy way and being afraid of real challenges, perhaps due to personal insecurity, which can go into full-blown escapism from reality; or it's a way to try and fill a vacuum with something that temporarily makes you feel good. However, you know something is wrong when there is a bad feeling afterward or visible scarring. Addiction is extremely common. Widespread use of alcohol (on a regular basis and a lot of it) and smoking without being able to quit are two of them. Both have serious negative consequences that outweigh any possible positive effects, but that's my opinion. I used to condemn these people, but compassion is a better way.

No idea this is what I'm wondering. I've been watching for 15 years straight and it has completely warped my brain. Along with other things that amplify the effect it feels so impossible I'm only at 2 1/2 months and the past 4 days it's been like an urge/desire unlike I've ever had before. I've quit smoking (tabacco/niccotine) and it was the easiest thing but porn on the other hand is my absolute bane.

@@Ds4u2 yeah I had to start over around that 2 1/2 month mark but now I seem just fine (for now)... And yeah I just gotta find more things to do and less exposing myself to the avenues that start that kind of behavior. I mean by now it's not really a huge secret on what to do the only problem is being able to do it. I have a lot of issues that I believe are synergistically affecting me into wanting to watch that. But i refuse to let that be an excuse to let myself go backwards. It's about moving forwards and keep doing that. I just come up with the thought every time I wanna watch adn say "Whats the point?" and "It sounds awful" "waste of time" "waste of intelligence" etc. Instead of finding justifications on watching it and whatnot why not make the ones to NOT do it. You have only one reason to do it and every reason not to. In the end you gotta tell yourself it's only going to make things worse. As we know it's an endless quest for that dopamine and it just extenuates that problem or possibly perpetuate it. I'md oing fine now but this is the hardest thing for me when it comes to addiction by far BY FAR

Especially when done at the computer I play an online game an addicting one even though I'm not addicted it still acts like a gateway. I'm trying to eliminate the avenues for these 'relapses'. I think incorporating some exercise as well as maybe a better way of eating could help as well? I have so much going on in life right now that this is something that isn't as intrigueing to me. the thing is that before a session of intoxication/porn my mind goes blank and single focused on the thing itself, at the exclusion of any thoughts that would derive me in an opposite direction. somehow, yes, a part of the mind is trying to fool the other and this is nasty business...

Self control .... the stoics nailed it. Abstinence is unreasonable. It’s a natural instinct, you won’t wish or will it away no matter how hard you try. Learn to say no to yourself. Weather it’s porn or playing with it in the shower makes no difference. Spanking the monkey isn’t a bad thing. Just like saying no to your food appetite is important, so is saying no to your sexual appetite. Porn is no more an addiction than food is, or anything else that makes you feel good. Women just hate porn because it takes their power over men away ( to a certain degree ), so they try to shame men for it.
You never hear anything about vibrator addiction do you ? No. This is just more man bashing nonsense.
Learn to control yourself ! We are an undisciplined society , and those who have what makes us feel good are playing us for the fools that only the undisciplined can be. say no to the flesh. Not because it’s bad, but because you don’t want to be led around like a fool by your instincts , giving others power over you

ALL sex outside of God's design of one marriage for all of life, until death--with children to be created in the context of such a marriage--is perversion. Sex with self included. Until GOD'S timing (with a never-before-married person, in marriage, or with a widowed person, in marriage), just turn OFF those thoughts! DESIRE and FRUSTRATION CEASE if you're not thinking about or visualizing things that create desire. Just like with any other addiction (candy, cigarettes), turn your eyes and thoughts AWAY from that which only hurts you. Jesus, our Creator, said that a man who even looks at a woman (presumably a married one) to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. And he said that unrepentant adulterers will be sent to an eternal lake of fire on judgment day after death. His rules for humankind are no joke. We either learn to TRUST him, that his ways are GOOD for us, or we will perish.
