Sept. 26th, 2023 - Walkboards to Washington rally (first DC lap)

On Sept. 26th, 2023 a group of movers rallied in front of the Capitol, doing several laps around the mall, to raise awareness about the upcoming GHC contract. This contract is currently being negotiated in Congress to handle all the military moves and as it stands would severely cut drivers/helpers pay in favor of a larger cut for the 3rd party companies that would distribute the loads to moving agents across the country.
As it is agents already take a lower percentage compared to a normal household move as a favor to the military and their families who graciously agree to be stationed where they are needed most. If this contract passes sometime in the next year, it will force many small time qualified moving agents out of business as the rates will not be enough to cover fuel, truck expenses, and pay for the drivers and helpers.
This rally is intended to raise awareness as in the end, it won't be just drivers and moving agents losing from this deal - it will be the military families who will end up with unqualified movers handling their personal belongings as the qualified movers won't handle their loads.
