To be fair, is it really a spoiler when pretty much everyone and their mother agrees how shit the song is? The question isn't whether it will be on the list, but how high.
You know what’s amazing? The comments on Big Sean’s A$$ are all negative, yet Birthday Cake is filled with almost nothing but praise from Chris Brown and Rihanna fans.
Chris Brown has this unique ability to continue having a career despite having no talent. - Garbage hooks. - Bad lyrics. - Underwhelming chorus. - Detestable personality. - Unfunny - Woman beater - I'd rather listen to Jason Derulo. That's how bad he is.
For as bad as “Want U Back” is just be greatful Swagger Jagger didn’t cross over in the US. One of the most embarrassing songs you will ever here. Gave her a number one single and fathered her states as the “worst thing ever” (Rebeca Black style) in British music for all of 6 mouths before she was mostly forgotten.
Ever noticed that "Swagger Jagger" sounds a bit like "Oh, My Darlin' Clementine"? Yeah, because nothing amps me up like a pop song that reminds me of an old cartoon that used to air own Boomerang.
Looking at the 2012 year end just makes me feel sad. Poor Carly Rae Jepson would never have another hit as big and would make so much better music. And I like Call me Maybe!!!
@@pfeltsy9065 It just goes to show you how important the lead single is. I Really Like You charted as high as it did because people were curious how she would follow up Call Me Maybe. The public viewed it as a retread, so they stopped paying attention. Also didn't help that she dropped the album TWO MONTHS LATE so she could "promote it for her Japanese fans" or something.
Call Me Maybe really shows me everything wrong with popular music. Not because the song itself is all that bad, but because the artists involved have made such better music. Carly Rae Jepsen has become the darling of indie pop, and the songwriter Josh Ramsay is the frontman of one of the best pop bands ever (Marianas Trench). And yet, outside of that song (and Good Time), name one song from either of them that’s gotten popular in the US. Apparently we just wanted to hear the lowest common denominator instead of what either artists are actually capable of.
@@mikerivera373 Dedicated is my favourite pop album of this year. Listened to it so many times. as @pfeltsy said, its a tragedy Run Away With Me wasn't a hit, its perfect in every way.
Random thoughts in order: - "Whistle" will now be stuck in my head for a week. That hook is catchy as smallpox (and about as pleasant). Thanks a lot. - It's been 7 years and I still think about how atrocious "Drive By" is on a regular basis. The lyrics are just so bafflingly terrible they randomly pop into my head about once a week. I've heard songs about chemtrails sung by talentless nobodies on UA-cam that made more sense. - "And this was a slot that was originally going to be filled by Justin Bieber''s 'Boyfriend'." I'd actually forgotten he made a song with that title, so my first reaction was "Hold up, Biebs dated a dude in 2012? I think I would remember that." - "Electro pop/migraine" *slow clap*
How was Birthday Cake not an instant career killer for both Rihanna and Chris Brown? Same with Love Me for Lil Wayne, Drake and Future the following year.
I really enjoyed Hands All Over, but it underperformed. It's not a coincidence Moves Like Jagger, which was tacked on to the album half a year later, features his cohost from The Voice. I can't fault the man for making pop garbage when selling out when each hit keeps getting bigger and bigger. If you reward bad behavior, you get more of it.
I remember having some of that yogurt in 2007. I mixed it with honey and berries. It was damn good. Really makes me wonder why I didn't just throw the rest out when I had the chance.
In 2012 and 2013, Pink and Kelly Clarkson basically became interchangeable. Also, this list was basically the soundtrack to eating mediocre dining hall food for me.

Rack City, it's honestly my least favorite hit of the 21st century. While I despise Birthday Cake's lyrics, it mostly relies on generic cake metaphors to describe sexual acts. 10. I like the prechorus, but the drop blows, and this is far from the only Early-Mid 2010s EDM track that fits that description. 9. This was the song that taught me how to whistle. Of course, I was too naïve and innocent back then to catch the obvious double entendre, but I can't have anything but nostalgia for this song. 8. That beeping synth... hasn't aged particularly well to say the least. 7. Pink, don't try to hit high notes, you're not Mariah Carey (or at least Mariah in her prime). 6. Guilty pleasure solely due to nostalgia. 5. I don't think this song is that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not good by any means, just not something I really dislike. 4. I actually like a fair deal of the production (the guitar line in particular, I think you could've built a solid mid-tempo pop rock song out of it), but the lyrics and vocals (UGH)… yeah, different story. When it comes to songs called "Want You Back", I'll take the Jackson 5 any day of the week. 3. I didn't realize how bad the lyrics were when I was 11, so can you please forgive my nostalgia for this song (nostalgia, see a running theme here?). 2. Cheesy WGWAG ballad. DM1. Nicki Minaj's vocals kind of annoy me. DM2. This ain't the last of Rihanna we'll see on this list. DM3. Another song, another burst of nostalgia. Gee, 11 year old me really had a bad taste in music. DM4. Meh. DM5. That production sure hasn't aged like fine wine. DM6. Rack City Bitch Rack Rack City Bitch... DM7. See DM4. 1. CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE (repeat ad infinitum)… one of the worst songs of the decade. I don't want my pop music to sound like I'm getting a root canal.

Guarantees (based on copyright bot spoilers) and my thoughts on them: We Run the Night (chorus isn't bad, but drop ruins everything) Whistle (doesn't sound bad, but far from subtle) Turn Up the Music (horrendous post chorus synths) Blow Me (One Last Kiss) (yeah, this song has shrunk on me considerably over the past 7 years) Payphone (started Maroon 5's decline, but I still don't hate this) Back in Time (great guitar lick, but wrong sample choice, and dubstep) Want U Back (horrendous, most other years the worst of the year) Drive By (don't hate this, but I do recognize the stupid lyrics) I Won't Give Up (kind of boring, but I don't get the extreme hate) You Da One (kind of annoying, but a masterpiece compared to one other song) Other songs I expect to be on this list: Birthday Cake (duh!) Rack City ("got your grandma on my dick", anyone?) Ass (again, duh!) Starships (similar to We Run the Night) The Motto (culturally damaging, and that one line from Lil Wayne) Boyfriend (just pitiful...) We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (don't hate as much as others, but a big shift for Taylor Swift)
Opinions while watching the video: #10. Yeah, the worst part of the song is the post chorus drop... #9. Yeah, not so subtle at all... #8. The drop is horrendous. #7. Well, it did drop from it's high position after all. Still, not that good. #6. This is where they started going downhill, but I don't hate it. #5. Good lick, but horrendous dubstep. #4. What? This low? How? #3. Yeah, bad lyrics alert. #2. I've never understood the extreme hate for this song. DM1: I was expecting Starships, but yeah, annoying... DM2: Compared to one other hit, this is a masterpiece... DM3: It has shrunk drastically over the years... DM4: Okay, wasn't expecting this... DM5: Not Boyfriend? DM6: Horrendous. DM7: Okay, I haven't given this much thought... #1: Yes, this song is flat out atrocious. The absolute worst of the year...
I agree P!nk's career went downhill a bit, but imo Blow Me One Last Kiss is one of her best songs of this decade. I always found the melody phenomenal along with the hook, funny how tastes differ

Not surprising the number one worst song of 2012 Has the distinction of being the only hot hundred song to make the top 40 portion credited to a version not commercially available not available for download on a paid download site. It also was not available for streaming On one of the major streaming services and not commercially available as a single or on an album in any format the only version available was even worse than the version that Mark chose as the worst of the year!! the only version you could get was a meme way under One and a half minutes in total and that’s the version even worse than when Mark mentioned that you find on Rihanna‘s album minus Chris Brown’s vocals.
Signaturefox 2013 I think turn up the music is more of an inoffensive dance song than don’t wake me up... the auto tuned yelping on the chorus is painful and the song has about 4 words total

Random thoughts in order:
- "Whistle" will now be stuck in my head for a week.
I think I would remember that."
- "Electro pop/migraine" *slow clap*
Adam Levine is like plain yogurt that's been expired for ten years and emits a rancid stench. I wish we had left him and Chris Brown back in 2012.

If it weren't for the out-of-place music video, I would've never heard of "Payphone."

I’m gonna go ahead and say it: Birthday Cake is the worst hit song of the 2010s decade overall.
B-HOP ...yeah
Look At Me came close, but at the end of the day, there can be only one worst, and Birthday Cake Remix is it.
I'm not gonna argue with you on that, nor do I think many people would.
Absolutely, by far.
Best hit of every year of the 2010s:
2010: DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love by Usher ft. Pitbull
2011: Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band
2012: Paradise by Coldplay
2013: Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia ft. John Martin (best hit of the decade)
2014: Pompeii by Bastille
2015: Shut Up And Dance by Walk The Moon
2016: When We Were Young by Adele
2017: Praying by Kesha
2018: Marry Me by Thomas Rhett
2019: God's Country by Blake Shelton (so far)

Birthday Cake is the kind of song that really doesn't have any other competition for being the worst song of a year.
Rack City, it's honestly my least favorite hit of the 21st century. While I despise Birthday Cake's lyrics, it mostly relies on generic cake metaphors to describe sexual acts. 9. This was the song that taught me how to whistle. Of course, I was too naïve and innocent back then to catch the obvious double entendre, but I can't have anything but nostalgia for this song.

Guarantees (based on copyright bot spoilers) and my thoughts on them:
We Run the Night (chorus isn't bad, but drop ruins everything)
Whistle (doesn't sound bad, but far from subtle)
Turn Up the Music (horrendous post chorus synths)
Blow Me (One Last Kiss) (yeah, this song has shrunk on me considerably over the past 7 years)
Payphone (started Maroon 5's decline, but I still don't hate this)
Back in Time (great guitar lick, but wrong sample choice, and dubstep)
Want U Back (horrendous, most other years the worst of the year)
Drive By (don't hate this, but I do recognize the stupid lyrics)
I Won't Give Up (kind of boring, but I don't get the extreme hate)
You Da One (kind of annoying, but a masterpiece compared to one other song)
Other songs I expect to be on this list:
Birthday Cake (duh!)
Rack City ("got your grandma on my dick", anyone?)
Ass (again, duh!)
Starships (similar to We Run the Night)
The Motto (culturally damaging, and that one line from Lil Wayne)
Boyfriend (just pitiful...)
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (don't hate as much as others, but a big shift for Taylor Swift)

DM7: Okay, I haven't given this much thought...
#1: Yes, this song is flat out atrocious. The absolute worst of the year...

@@Rob-ew9id "imma make you my b**** cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake..." I can do that forever!
Ugh, Birthday cake annoyed the fuck out of me. That's pretty much what turned me off pop music for good.
Turn Up The Music #2?? Really that bad? I really don't see anything wrong with it, and Don't Wake Me Up gets under my skin WAY more.
32:26 please dont, because if we do, that means people will remember it, and no one deserves to have memory of something as bad as birthday cake remix
This number 1 we will all agree on is most deserving.
Even if it doesn’t make much sense, I’ve always liked the beat from Back In Time
You know Fortune sucks when on the Chris Brown Essentials on Apple Music, only 1 out of the 40 songs is from Fortune
Looks like we got one of the bad Mark hairline videos
Was number 1 really ever gonna be anything else? Todd made it number 1 back in 2012 and that dogshit song has (somehow) only gotten worse over time.
Social Tune also had it at #1 on his Worst of 2012 list, and it's generally infamous in the music review community, so everyone and their mothers could predict what #1 was gonna be.
Cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake
But you wanna put your name on it.....
@@gabingston3430 I would more say sounds like Death incarnate coming to get you. Seriously, the only other song that I could genuinely say sounded anywhere close to that description that was popular in recent years was Fefe. Even then, it was more a slow, tedious, yet disgusting sounding kind of death over an over the top, complete blunt force trauma kind if situation that death could bring with that sound, which is arguably even worse by comparison.
He wanna lick the icing off
Everyone seems to agree that that Chris Brown/Rihanna collaboration was one of the biggest miscalculations in recent popular music. And yet Chris Brown still has millions of defenders. BLACK WOMAN defenders!! I don’t know what’s wrong with the world.
Also shame on you for reminding of Cher Lloyd. *Ugh*
@@deathgoddragon3698 I agree that basically giving Chris Brown a career after Birthday Cake (Remix) was a mistake, but both New Flame and Go Crazy are surprisingly good and both came out after that ungodly remix that should’ve never happened.
Oh, and as bad as Want U Back is, Cher Lloyd has made some genuinely good songs that I think more people should get to know: Oath and Sirens.
24:15-24:16 So that's how Steven Universe got a foothold in the entertainment world.
2012 overall was a good year for music I agree these songs are not good at all. Only one slight disagreement one more night was the worst of the two maroon 5 songs.
I remembered liking 2012 for music (guess I felt nostalgic for that year since I graduated from high school). Though I somehow avoided listening to most of the bad stuff (guess I didn't listen to the radio that often).
@@fullmetalmasify I often listen to my local radio both then and now, but not going to lie, the 2012 year-end has songs that I don’t ever remember listening to back then.
Great video! Keep up the good work!
And to quote the great ADoseofBuckley about Birthday Cake:
"You want that cake (X stupid amount of times)....Hmmm, wonder what the next line's gonna be?
Cake,cake.....
Brutal".
You always have my favourite top 10 lists... I can't wait for the end of 2019
This dude reminds me of Linkara
One in 2019... So it’s either Shallow or Sunflower.
8:11 still the best single from the album in my opinion
Seriously her next single try was generic pop shit. True love managed to get another edge lord of the 2000’s (with that being Lily Allen) and make her generic and boring and finally just give me a reason is so boring that it hurts, it’s easily her worst song with the only one able to compare is her other boring sell out ballad what about us. She seems to have gone back to rock with irrelevant but she’s teasing another song called never gonna not dance again which also sounds like a sell out song so fuck it
Ayo what’s up it’s Super Minivan here. Don’t mind me just tryna catch some love with my new Hefty bag.
And I got a.......... Hefty bag! (OOH!!)
@@crazyluigi6664 call me Mr. Flintstone, I'ma make your bed rock...
What a coincidence . I'm releasing my top 20 worst songs of 2016 list today
Cool premiere here’s mine
And what about it?
When is your best of 2004 list coming, Sharon?
Katie Thompson 2004, I don’t know. 2014, soon.

Can you just send Voltorb as a “fanmail” and ship it to Chris Brown for Voltorb to use shockwave to him? That would make my day!
HØodyToon Salazar! I don’t think Voltorb has enough Defense to take a Beat Up in return.
King of the Void *Chris Brown uses Vise Grip But misses to hit Rihanna*
It’s not very affective & super affective to the 2010’s
Voltorb is disgusted at your suggestion. He doesn't wanna get within 1000 miles of that filth.
I'm surprised that Voltorb hasn't used self destruct yet after having to put up with Chris Brown's dogshit music for these videos.
I can't help but love Pitbull's enthusiasm. He's like an excited kid that can't stay on topic and keeps going back to his hyperfixations.
Mark alluding to the idea of a worst hits of the decade piece sounds incredible
The big question how many spots would it have
I agree with everything except "Want U Back" would've been my number 1 and "The Matto" by Drake would've been an honorable mention for me if not on the list proper
He's the fuckin' man, you don't get it do you?
At the very least, replace J. Cole's song with The Motto.
I'm still mad that Drive By was overplayed enough that I knew way too much of the lyrics
damn, this music is a throwback to the hell of working at a Best Buy where the in-store PA would play a constant loop of Now That's What I Call Music discs lmao. The vast majority of these hits were the soundtrack to my work day
birthday cake reminds me of M,I,L,F by Fergie
@@jocke1232 except M.I.L.F.$ isn’t as bad and at least to me is decent.
I actually really liked I Won't Give Up... in fact, I listed it as one of my favorite hits of the year at the conclusion of 2012. To be fair, though, I always interpreted it as him trying to maintain a relationship that's hit a bit of a rough spot, rather than him trying to win someone back.
