As an autistic person with anxiety as well, I love Henry as a character and while it may have been unintentional, he’s a fantastic representation for disabled people and how to be just as useful regardless of what disability you have. I’ve learned to embrace my disabilities with pride and Thomas has really showed me to keep being proud of it.
The Flying Kipper, along with being a great episode in its own right has one of the most important morals of the whole show: Sometimes bad things just happen through no fault of your own, but regardless of how low life can bring you things can turn out better than they were before. I don't know if that was the intended moral or not, but when it hit me it made me realize just how special the episode was. Misfortunes happen to everyone, so it's important to remember that even if it seems like things can't get worse you should never give up on life because you might just end up better off than you were before. It's an extremely important moral that everyone should keep in the back of their mind.
Great video! What you said at 17:34 felt very personal to me. Like many Thomas fans, I am on the autism spectrum, and by watching this video I’ve realized how much I can relate to Henry since I’ve been in situations where I’ve been expected to work at the level of other people and working to overcome these kinds of challenges with the support of people who will do whatever it takes to make accommodations so that I can do my best and reach my full potential, despite having people who may try and pick on me for not being like them or having days when things feel difficult. I’ve always loved Thomas growing up, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown appreciate the show even more, and this is one example why🙂
I'm on the autistic spectrum as well, probably less severe than how it was when I was younger but still noticeable. I saw this show, particularly Henry's episodes as not just good at teaching about overcoming life obstacles, but preparing me for intense situations like exams or living on my own for the first time. So long as theres people for support, you can accomplish things in your own time.
Hehey big fan of your content great to see you enjoyed my video. I was heavily inspired by Unlucky Tug's Sodor's Finest video on Gordon and just really wanted to gush over how much I enjoyed Henry's story I 100% agree he's the most relatable
You've touched on a lot of the same feelings I've had about Henry's arc! I was always happy to see such a valuable lesson about mental health in such an old piece of children's media. Fantastic video!
Well said mate. My favorite Engine at the moment is a obscure but fan made tank engine named Timothy the tank engine of the lbscr. (Just remove the demon characteristics) But aside from him, Henry is my closest second favorite engine as like him struggled with bloody Autism of all thing's. So when it comes to handicaps Henry is seemingly relatable.
Henry is a based on an early drawing of one of the prototype A1s that were never built not a hybrid of a C1 and a A1, Wilbert Awdry never said that he was a hybrid
Henry has always been my favorite character, who is the main character in my favorite episode ever, the flying kipper. I really relate to him as a character. Fantastic video!
Henry is one of my favorites as his disability struggle is something I can wholeheartedly relate to. I have ASD and I can totally relate to the disadvantages the disability can bring. But you still show what you are made of and show you are not defined just by what ails you.
Hi Luke, I want to tell you that you that this video was interesting to watch because of the morals that you have learnt from watching this episodes about Henry and it made sense to why he is your favourite character. I could also relate to Henry in those three episodes from the first series of Thomas the Tank Engine because I’ve always felt like that in the workspace and nobody understands my struggles although I do try and work hard, but I know that there is support provided to help me. Listening to talk about these episodes in more detail has made me feel sorry about the character Henry. And finally, you said in your first review that this television show works for autistic people, and I suffer from autism too and with that this was a show I found easy to watch through my childhood. You’ve done s good job with your Thomas the Tank Engine reviews so far, I’ve felt I’ve learnt a lot more about the show itself
4:38-4:46 And needless to say, the Fat Controller wasn't too pleased when he find out that he had been tricked.... "I wanted an Atlantic!" He would fume. "And that ____ ____ _____ sent me *that!"*
With STH being a father, I could see him comforting the engines, possibly. In fanfics, he cries over them, wiping tears in a fic called A Sacrifice For Those You Love over Edward being badly.
Wilbert didn’t like Henry in the 1940er-1950er because of the illustration of Henry.Henry has very inconsistent with his old shape in the Rws .After ,,Henry the green engine “where Henry became his new shape(Black 5) he began to like Henry. He made 2 wonderful storys named ,,Tender for Henry “and ,,Super Resuce “.
Henry is my favorite character as I find him the most interesting, he starts off very ill and weak, made fun of for it and very depressed, but then later on things take a turn for the better, he gets special coal, crashes and then ends up getting reshaped and no longer needing special coal, he becomes a lot healthier, stronger and even gave Gordon a run for his money, and in the show he expresses a more soft side showing that he likes nature, unlike most other characters in the main cast, I was pretty invested in his journey.
I had so many things go wrong so my parents pulled out the fat controller move and tried to see what's wrong and eventually we learned I had to be on antidepressants and that I'm on the autism spectrum, I have never felt better!
To anyone from UA-cam HQ who happens to read this comment We here at Usual Bloke Luke (or just me) do not condemn child violence We do however find them being sneezed at by steam engines hilarious

Aside from being a well made vid technically, it hit really close to home and the affection you have for this series and its characters is infectious keep up the good work mate, you've earned a well deserved subscriber
Let me just say an amazing video!!! Henry is my favorite character in all of Thomas and friends ever since I was little. it was great to hear from someone else that they had the same feelings any motions that I had during these episodes. You have pointed out every scene and every episode that I enjoy the most of Thomas and friends. it’s nice to see someone else appreciate these episodes for what they are and what story they told. it makes me proud to be a Henry fan, and make me more happy that Henry is my favorite character. Once again an amazing video. I can tell you put a lot of work into it and let me just tell you as a fan, I really appreciate it.👍👍🙂
Henry wasn’t necessarily my favorite but he was up there and this video showed me why. Because out of every other engine, me and so many other people know and understand what he went through and how much we can relate to his struggles.
About narrow gauge engines and named trains, if I recall correctly, Duke had a named train on the Mid Sodor railway called "the picnic." He was pulling it during the events of You Can't Win.
Very nice video, Luke. Being autistic myself, I can definitely relate to Henry, so it's little wonder he's probably my favourite character - in fact, I even wrote a review of the book for the SiF a long time ago, and it was pretty much exploring the same undertones. I'm actually inclined to think your take is better in many ways. On a sidenote, you're right about the majority of the narrow gauge engines not having named trains or signature trains to themselves, but it's worth noting that Duke did have "the Picnic" to his credit.

Henry is my favorite character of the entire series because of what he teach us: *"Life is hard, in more ways than you think, sometimes you would suffer dreadfully and no one would care or undertand and that would make any of us to throw in the towel and just stop trying, but Henry is different, everysingle time that life throws anything to him, he always gets back up and keeps going either with a tier, a grumble or a smile, He never gives up. I didn't really watch much Thomas & Friends (or rather Shining Time Station since I'm from the US) as a kid but recently started watching the classic series because UA-cam started recommending me Thomas stuff for some reason. I've watched the first three seasons and Henry was an instant fave. Such a great and inspiring character.

Thanks for sharing this interesting video on one of my favorite engines story arcs👍
Just like anyone who is in the TTTE community who is on the spectrum like me, can easily relate with Henry and/or call him the most favorite character out of everyone else in the shed. I was diagnosed with mild autism at an early age, and before that happened, I was very knowledgeable, and I was even opening up my vocabulary with more complex words in books. All of that was about to change when I was 2 or 3 years old... At the time I was doing really good and learning really easily, then I was starting to get sick. I was getting worse, and I was developing a fever that was creeping towards 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Both of my parents were concerned to the point where I was going to potentially die, so they took me into the ER to get looked at to see if someone could help me feel better. I was taken in and after about a day or so, the doctor had news for my parents. At some point either before or during the early part of my sickness, my brain was starting to develop autism (probably right before the sickness). They definitely noticed a difference when I came home. They had to learn sign language until I would be able to physically speak, and because of that, my speech and vocabulary skills dropped very fast. I wouldn't be able to read books properly until I was probably 8 or 9 years old. One thing that I was able to understand though was how to relate with those similar to me at a younger age. I was easily able to identify with Henry, and more often than not, Henry was my role model. If I played with my Thomas toys with my older brother, I would always go with Henry. I knew Henry had the power and strength had he could literally do anything, and still get the job done with a very proud smile on his face (this was when I was 5ish years old when I was identifying with Henry). Henry went through hell and back again from the beginning, and he will always be the strongest and unbeatable character, that we as people who fall on the spectrum, will be in life.
And where I am at now?? I am now going to get married at some point next year, and I have never thought of myself getting to that point due to being bullied and made fun of at a younger age. I always thought that I was ugly, and every girl was way out of my league, but now I realize that isn't the case at all... At some point, I will have a child in the future with my wife, and if they have autism too, I know what will help them out to make them feel so much better. If anyone has any doubts about themselves in long-term relationships/relationships in general, having a family, having careers, and even thinking that life will ever be amazing, watch any video about Henry as a character and look at others who aren't considered being "nOrMaL" by the overall public. You can do anything in life if you have the support to help you get there, and the willpower to keep going no matter what...
@@MikesAutoWorld A powerful story to share there mate. It really goes to show how far simply relating to a fictional character can help us in times when we think all is lost Bravo for overcoming the odds stacked against you Best of luck with the wedding next year, you deserve it

There’s actually a real-life Henry: BR 71000 _”Duke of Gloucester”._ The only BR Standard Class 8 ever built, constructed in 1954 to replace No. 46202 _”Princess Anne”,_ which had been destroyed in an accident in 1952. However, _Duke of Gloucester_ had terrible steaming problems and fuel efficiency. Rather than try to figure out what was wrong, BR just sent the engine away to be scrapped. While it was waiting to be scrapped, a bunch of rail fans pooled their money and bought 71000 in order to preserve it. During the _thirteen years_ it took to restore the _Duke,_ it was discovered that it hadn’t been built to the specifications required by the schematics. The funnel it was built with was too small and didn’t work well with the valve gears, and the ash pan and intake dampers for the firebox were also too small and strangled its air supply. After replacing those parts with the ones 71000 was supposed to have had all along, they discovered that _Duke of Gloucester_ might be the most powerful and most efficient 4-6-2 to have ever been built in Britain. To this day, the _Duke_ is pulling coaches full of tourists on the mainline, and is one of the most popular steam engines in the world. People who’ve had the chance to operate 71000 describe it as seeming to always want to go even faster. When I first heard the story of _Duke of Gloucester,_ I made the mistake of imagining it as a _Railway Series_ character, and subsequently spent the next hour bawling my eyes out. _He just wanted to be a Really Useful Engine but he couldn’t and his owners didn’t love him and sent him away to be scrapped and he sat all alone for years thinking that he was a Bad Engine and nobody would ever love him or want him but then a bunch of people came and told him that they loved him and wanted him and they saved him and fixed him up and discovered that he was actually one of the best steam engines ever but his original owners built him wrong and sent him away instead of fixing him because they were stupid people who never should’ve been put in charge of the railway and everyone hates them now and it serves them right and now he’s a Really Useful Engine and he gets to pull coaches full of people who come from all over to see him because of how wonderful he is and he’s so happy and living his best life now and I’m crying again just typing this._
When I was little Henry was my favourite engine because my favourite colour was green and he was the biggest green engine 😂 but now he's my favourite character for many of the reasons you stated in this video 👍
@@usualblokeluke personally it does make some sence with how much money it could be to turn an experimental design into a standard. And besides who says the engine has Henry's memories? It could that the engine was given every information about Henry and it goes from there.
i just remembered how i used to watch TTTE as a kid and i had some vague memories about Henry having basically the train equivalent of a chronic illness or disability and them providing him accomodations in the form of special coal, and that as a non disabled person i thought it was a sweet episode... i'm glad disabled fans of the show like him just as much!!
People who have disabilities or are going through a rough time can relate to Henry These people have experienced the sadness that comes with their disability/struggle like how Henry was sad about his steaming problems and fearing that he might be replaced by someone else Henry's steaming problems can symbolize the person's disability or physical/mental struggle. The crash can symbolize the point where they reach out for help or start adapting to their disability. The Crewe rebuild can symbolize them pushing through their struggle and emerging a better and stronger person. These people can look up to Henry and give them the hope that one day they too will either recover fully or overcome their challenge and emerge a stronger person like Henry
Just watching this for the first time and the transition to Whistles and Sneezes where you lined up the music timing to Henry's wheel noises and his whistle watered my crops.
And just think, if HIT wouldn't have stepped in and taken over, we more than likely would've seen a model series rendition of "Super Rescue", arguably the end of Henry's fantastic arc of not belonging, with him getting the last laugh while pulling two whole trains home BY HIMSELF. God that would've been beautiful to see on the screen...
Henry is for sure my favorite engine. I see myself in him. In fact one of my ridiculous headcanons is that Henry not only hid in the tunnel because not only his anxiety over his paintwork but bc also because it caused a sensory overload
Thank you! His Sodor's Finest video on Gordon was a heavy inspiration for this video tbh as I wanted to explore how I could discuss the show to a professional and heartfelt in depth degree like he does
There's probably some explanation out there that I've not heard but my guess is because of it being a non stop fish train that speeds down the line Hence it's a train of kippers flying down the track
i hated hearing henry being removed from the tv series. this helps explain why.
being on the spectrum my life is always difficult. gotta admire henry’s courage for never giving up when he was down

A powerful story to share there mate. It really goes to show how far simply relating to a fictional character can help us in times when we think all is lost
Bravo for overcoming the odds stacked against you
Best of luck with the wedding next year, you deserve it
@@usualblokeluke Thank you, I greatly appreciate it!!! I hope all is doing well with you, and I appreciate what you do in the TTTE community!! You're one of the best!!
So glad you had henry as your role model.
How are you doing now?
@Michael Bartholomew
There’s actually a real-life Henry: BR 71000 _”Duke of Gloucester”._
The only BR Standard Class 8 ever built, constructed in 1954 to replace No.
Phenomenal video! Keep it up!
Thank you very much!
I shall 😁
As a person with autism, this is quite relatable for me!
i love this video
When I was little Henry was my favourite engine because my favourite colour was green and he was the biggest green engine 😂 but now he's my favourite character for many of the reasons you stated in this video 👍
Do you believe the whole two Henry Theory?
I do not believe the theory no
As interesting as a theory it is, I find it odd that a clone engine can be built with all the memories of the original.
@@usualblokeluke personally it does make some sence with how much money it could be to turn an experimental design into a standard. And besides who says the engine has Henry's memories? It could that the engine was given every information about Henry and it goes from there.
Over the years, Henry became my favorite character of any media because as I grew up, I saw myself in heaven, and I love him because of that
I wonder if sir topham hatt was considering crew even before his kipper accident.
I have a learning disability which I struggled with when I was a kid. I took special education classes all throughout my school years since then.
Amazing video! This completely sums up why Henry is my favorite character from Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
4:59 GOCOMPARE! GOCOMPARE!
i just remembered how i used to watch TTTE as a kid and i had some vague memories about Henry having basically the train equivalent of a chronic illness or disability and them providing him accomodations in the form of special coal, and that as a non disabled person i thought it was a sweet episode... i'm glad disabled fans of the show like him just as much!!
People who have disabilities or are going through a rough time can relate to Henry
These people have experienced the sadness that comes with their disability/struggle like how Henry was sad about his steaming problems and fearing that he might be replaced by someone else
Henry's steaming problems can symbolize the person's disability or physical/mental struggle.
Great work, very well done.

Maybe a unpopular opinion : But I think you did a better to explain why " The Flying Kipper " is a great epsiode as Nic.
P.s No hate against Nic.
You should hear the Johnny Morris versions of these stories
keep up the great work , u remind me of unlucky tug guy
Thank you!
His Sodor's Finest video on Gordon was a heavy inspiration for this video tbh as I wanted to explore how I could discuss the show to a professional and heartfelt in depth degree like he does
@@usualblokeluke very good very nice
Henry and James are my two favorite characters.
I hope one day you make a reaction to this video.
Like a reacting to my old content video talking about what was going through my mind when I made it / how I've changed over the years?
@@usualblokeluke Yes.
So why do they call It the Flying Kipper?
There's probably some explanation out there that I've not heard but my guess is because of it being a non stop fish train that speeds down the line
Hence it's a train of kippers flying down the track
As somone who has only one arm i can relate to Henry
Come on Luke. I'm impatient for that Series 8 video.
Uh..."Calling All Engines"?
So this is your 82nd video.
🤍💜🚂🚃🤍💜
17:06 Bad moral.
Why?
best line "ACHOO. s h o e.
Sir Topham Hatt should have scolded the boys
The crash scene was the only scene in the whole series that scared me 💩less as a kid
