Great area of the country - I miss it. I really need to get back and visit with my bike - its been years. Used to enjoy camping around there - tubing the river etc.
A very peaceful video to watch on a Saturday morning here in Edinburgh. I’ve done that ride many times and, like you said, the weather changes can be huge. One time, we left Sidney, mid 20s, not a cloud in the sky. Got to spoke and it was below 10 and thick fog! I’ve just put together a trip for a friend and myself, in a few weeks, Glencoe, Loch Ness, Skye, a couple of short ferry rides too. It’s a big loop and it’ll be Friday to Monday. Just need to order those midgy nets!
What a great ride, Jeremy. I am aiming at trying to convince a friend or two to do a western isles motorcycle trip for great scenery and some whisky tasting in a couple of years (after a week or two at the TT). Very envious! I would tell you to have fun, but that's a given. Cheers.
Love this route! The temp change will get ya for sure! Advice for people doing it for the first time: have your warm, cold, and wet riding gear on board. We did this in April and got caught in a snowstorm even though it was warm and sunny in Lake Cowichan when we started.
I got caught riding unprepared in the summer. I left Cow bay in the heat and was freezing before the logging protest site prior to Renfrew. I plugged on to Victoria looking for plastic or paper to line my jacket. Reduced to riding 40km/hr out of Sooke I only found relief at Walmart in Langford where I could buy sweats. The cold nearly finished me.
Fantastic scenery. I'll be taking my Vstrom up from the US for 4 weeks in Sept, fishing and MC sightseeing, 1 week on the island, then ferry to Bella Coola to ride/fish my way back down. I'm thinking about an overnight trip to Tofino, but this loop looks tempting too.
Both are great options - could do both if you land in Victoria, head west on the 14 to Port Renfrew, then north on the Pac Marine to Cowichan Lake, then river bottom road from lake cowichan to the main island highway and up to Parksville, turn left to Tofino... Great ride. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll love it (The fishing is great). Cheers.
have you ridden any of the twisties here in greater victoria!? there are some nice add ons to the loop in the highlands or metchosin. If you haven't ridden kangaroo/gillespie or munns you must!
I have done this loop a few times great ride! How do you like the Insta 360 one x ? I have been thinking about getting one instead of a gopro just hear some people love them and some don't on the reviews . I would mainly use it for riding and dog walks along Westwood lake in Nananimo where I live !
Hi, BC: I'll likely never buy another go pro again. The Insta onex-2 is amazing, the only draw-back for motovlogging is the sound quality which is poor - but that is remedied by using a recording device and mic. The insta gives you so much more flexibility: mount it anywhere and choose the direction you want at any given time; Go pro, you have to be careful where you mount it, they are buggy (no sound with the video track when you use one touch recording at times); won't always turn on after changing the battery; poor connection to app at times; shorter battery life... Personally, I'd go with insta - much more fun to edit too...
Love it, makes me want to move to Canada. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one brilliant photography....
Beautiful place. Wish you nice rides like this.

Unbelievable scenery! A little distressing to see all those logging trucks you passed though.Beautiful vlog Mate!
Cheers, Brett.
Noice gadgetry footage! Never really thought of this route as being the furthest west loop in Canada, but now you mention it....
Thanks, sludgy. Have to get you out with me on one of my bikes for a day or two? Something aircooled coming soooon....
Great vid! Having fun editing with the 360! Love the route, do it on the regular out of Victoria.

Thanks for the tips! I'm not shocked, the route is full of surprises. Cheers, CM.

nice effect use
One of my favorite rides, but the road from Port Renfew to Sooke always repositions my innards.
Yeah that road will get your giblets dancing! Cheers:-)

Hi, CL: interesting you say that...found some of them in part two/three of this series... Cheers.
