    I'd take that over the Triumph. The lower power and spec doesn't seem too important on that style of bike, and the cost saving is significant.

    I have a himalayan. I've had more powerful bikes in the past from street bikes to cruisers and I have to say hands down it's been the best bike I've ever owned. It's lack of power believe it or not has really helped fine tune my motorcycling skills even more and I've been riding almost 19years. This 650 scrambler looks exciting to me and is interesting. Once you understand what royal enfield is about you get the bikes. The finish is constantly improving. My himmy is 2021 and she's perfect plus she's like a tractor reliable and easy and cheap to fix. Plus I've never wanted to ride more than when I got her. The weather doesn't matter anymore and she's comfortable as hell. I actually can't wait for this new member of the Enfield family. I think you either get Royal Enfield or you don't. Triumph is beautiful but it can be hit and miss and you don't always get what you pay for. I suppose at the end of the day you have to pick a bike that is confidence inspiring and that makes you happy. There's definitely a space in the market for the 650 scrambler. Now a 650 himmy would be an exciting prospect but then again I love my 411 tractor 😊

      As a new (6 months) owner of a ‘23 Himalayan… I can say that unless you live in a small town, or simply never touch a highway, the 411 is just not enough. But it’s not the motor that’s the issue. It’s the 5 spd trans. It needs ONE MORE GEAR! I’ve already upped my front sprocket by one tooth, and that did help… but a 6th gear is seriously needed. I’m looking to trade my Himi back in on an Int 650 specifically to turn that into a scrambler… but now I see RE is already going to do that!? Crazy

      @@nightdrv RE have launched the new 450 CC Himalayan with an Liquid Cooled 40 bhp / 40nM single, USD forks, Better navigation pod, 6 Gears, ride by wire, etc. Being an owner of the Interceptor 650 and having tested the new Himalayan (coz my bro owns it hehe), I can safely say it's a good upgrade over the old 411 mill. The only downside is the 450 engine is slightly more vibey. I love my interceptor for everything (including that butter smooth twin) but I hate the shocks. They are just not cut out for a modern bike that weighs upwards of 215 kgs.

    The new Triumph Scrambler 400 X would be my choice, 40bhp and 170kg wet.
    I've owned the 1200 XE, and although absolutely amazing with SP Engineering slash cuts, it was the height and weight that made me sell it. Height being the major one when you ride a lot of single track roads with off camber, stopping isn't fun.
    The wife owns the Street Scrambler 900 and that is brilliant fun, so no need to have 2 of them.
    Current bike is a Tiger 900 GT Pro, and I absolutely love it.
    This new Enfield will be in the ball park of the new 400 X, so would more likely to compete with that and not the more premium 900 and 1200 Scramblers.

    I have tried both the interceptor and the gt, and while I was enjoying the engine, I was not happy with boring ergonomic of interceptor on one side and seating discomfort on gt (although riding gt I found a great fun, just cannot imagine riding it longer or more often how uncomfortable it was) - so this scramble may be the good answer, I am very curious to see it. And the low exhaust - I love it! my main concern with scramblers really as I mostly ride around the town, often with a pillion.

    Many, many excellent points made here, as per your usual! Thanks. One thing I look for here in the USA is cruise control. We've got lots of fairly straight highways and cruise is a key accessory, at least for me. Triumph cripples many of their bikes (both Scramblers and Bonnevilles) by leaving it off which has soured me a bit on a purchase. Maybe RE can take advantage of this bit of Triumph marketing madness.

    Too right. Why did it take them this long?? Anyway, this model addresses pretty much all the gripes I had for the Interceptor. There's a suspension upgrade, the wheels and tires look spot on and will open up a foray of tire choices, and the rider's triangle looks ergonomically roomier and more comfortable. They'll shoot out the door with supply issues for some time. I'm guessing many will trade their Conti's and Interceptors and the rest of us will finally buy one.

    Freddie Dobbs has been really struggling to get a cylinder head gasket for his Bonneville for more or less 4 months now. So, to me it would be down to something as simple as getting parts for the bike I choose. RE have said that most; if not all parts are available for their full range. I reckon with a higher exhaust and some knobblies, the Interceptor would make a great scrambler and would be considerably cheaper.
    So my choice would be Royal Enfield Interceptor (modded)..............

    I think the only question is why has it taken RE so long?.
    From what I can see, I think they might have been able to do better with the exhaust as even the cans a bit low slung for a scrambler. Also if they fall short of 150mm suspension travel more than a few of us will be disappointed. That's always been the biggest failure on the triumph scrambler 900 & why i don't ride one.

    • @edxr250r
      @edxr250r 10 місяців тому

      I'm not sure it will have 150mm of suspension travel, at least not at the rear as the Interceptor on which this is based has ~90mm and taking it to 150mm would increase the seat height by a significant amount..... but you never know? I'd guess something like 130mm at the rear and 140mm at the front maybe so ~40mm increase in seat height over the Interceptor🤔

      It took them so long b/c Scramblers aren't a 'thing' (not very popular) in India, and India is far and away their largest market. They only sell a relatively small amount of motorcycles in the rest of the world, in places where a Scrambler might be in more demand.

    So, this will fit between the new triumph scrambler 400X and the scrambler 900, it's a perfect middle point between the two, with pretty much same looks and style, although bigger engine than the 400X, will it still be worth buying the 400X knowing Royal Enfield is bringing this scrambler 650?? I'm 5'9' and 220 lbs on a good day, lol

    • @btijti
      @btijti 17 днів тому

      I own the Interceptor and my bro owns the 400X. The Triumph trumps the Interceptor in all departments except engine and braking which are superior in the Interceptor (look wise both are head turners). The triumph is lighter and unless the RE do some major modifications to bring the weight down, this one is still gonna end up being a few pounds too many.
      If you are ok with s single cylinder mill (which is slightly gruff ath higher RPMs) then go for the Triumph.

      Well I understand what you must be feeling. But RE has just started changing like 5-7 years ago, and it does take time. They have launched the Super Meteor 650 in the US now too. The New liquid cooled Himalayan will reach US in 7-8 months too.
      Typically bikes in the US reach 7-9 months after being launched in India.

    My preference of this category if on a budget would be the cfmoto 700cl-x adventure/heritage which you didn't include in the video for some reason or if I had a bit more budget I'd get the awesome Yamaha xsr 700/900 - both with neo retro styling and bags of hp hence a better value for money per hp than most of these options.

      @@martykasa7864 yeah, I was just guessing. As I was saying, they still might decide to bring in a Himalayan 650.
      To be honest, I'm confused with RE's intent with the Himalayan. The 411 was a proper dual sport which could do road touring as well as medium off roading. The leaked power figures for the Himalayan 452 seems to suggest that one is more biased towards road touring.

      Different strokes for different folks. If you've got a solid platform and can use it to cater to different audiences, it's just a savvy way to do business.
