Most airlines flying from Toronto Pearson depart from Terminal 3, including WestJet, Air Transat, Porter, Sunwing, Swoop, Flair Airlines, KLM, Air France, British Airways and others. Air Canada, its Star Alliance partners (Air India, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Egypt Air, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, TAP Air Portugal, United Airlines), Emirates, Lynx, and Canadian North operate from Terminal 1.

That Terminal looks MUCH nicer than Terminal 1...

Are there connected chairs for long layovers to rest a bit?

I will be flying into YYZ and will have a layover of 7 hrs before connecting into the USA. When I land from Dubai Intl., will I have to go to the customs and leave the international area, or can I stay there and meet up with family arriving a few hrs after me?

You have to clear immigration and customs first, and then go through US immigration and customs at the Preclearance station.
You can meet your family in any neutral (landside) area of the airport.
