In this video we buy a new project car for the channel. Following on from the Honda Jazz project, I've been looking for a new car to make an even crazier project out of, and I think I've found the perfect car in this VW Fox. The plan with this car is to make a fox GTI, using a 1.8T BAM engine, with the goal being 300bhp and potentially a DSG gearbox later down the line. We started that project in this video by removing the engine!

Great sounding engine, but an absolute boat anchor for a car as small as the VW Fox. I had one in my MK2 GTI and pulled it after 7 months because it was just too heavy and tall. 1.8T is the better choice for lighter cars.
VR6 in anything newer than a MK4 is the way to go if you want something that drives well and sounds great. But the 2.0TFSI is still the better performance option.
This channel is one of the best kept secrets on UA-cam. You’re a total natural in front of the camera and are coming up with some really unique content. Keep up the great work, let’s go for 500k subs by the end of the year! 🙌🏻🔥

My 1.4 VW Fox broke down a week ago. I've always wanted to see how it performs with a 20vt engine in it. It's absolutely hilarious that one of my favorite UA-camrs decided to build one while mine is out.
Those undertrays help with aerodynamics/fuel efficiency, those dimples make them behave like the surface of a golf ball. Air becomes turbulent by going over the undertray and into the dimples, creating a boundary layer of turbulent air where clean air can flow over faster and unimpeded. Faster and cleaner airflow means less drag, less drag means less energy needed to overcome friction.

Most likely mate the fuel leak will be at the top of the tank or on the filler neck pipe, mines done that and had the exact same problems as you

Bro, give the Jazz a set of ITBs and a full header back exhaust, it'll sound so awesome after that. Other simp,e mods I'd recommend are a lightweight crak pulley and strut tower braces. Love the build and can't wait for the next project :)
I actually had one of these as a first car and I did actually want to do the same engine swap, and make it absolutely nuts but I just never got round to doing it and ended up selling it, so seeing this project will be rather exciting to see 😎

I always dreamed of doing something like this to a vw fox. I would've used a 1.9 tdi because it's easy to get the desired 250 hp out of it and in my country it has strong aftermarket support. The sad part about it is that it's never going to make flames and it only revs to 5000 rpm. It also comes with the notorious diesel smell.
If you’re removing the subframe it’s proper practice to use an engine frame to secure it from falling on your head

Better off with the polo gti engine as the golf one could be taking up too much space
Like this idea, got to go with the tartan Recaros from a Polo 9N3 GTi and BBS RX2 Wheels (They come in a 5x100 stud pattern already, so are a direct fit to either the Fox or Golf running gear you're likely to use)

One of these was at Cruise Irvine with a 1.8 and it popped right next to me, I've never shat myself so much. I'm still traumatised by the Fox
The cars you are choosing our perfect especially for us who can relate. Most youtubers have 50k plus cars, it's enjoyable to watch but just not relatable. And then there's youtubers with cheap cars but stupidly damaged. Hopefully next project another relatable car, maybe like a focus st or a golf mk5 mk6 or another grannny

You can get 350hp out of a stock 1.8T as long as you keep the torque down lol, they have forged pistons and cranks from the factory, the con rods are the weak link in those motors

Pretty sure these share a subframe with the 6N2 Polo, which got a 1.8t & DSG. You'd be better off buying a donor car for that kind of thing?

For years now i built a lot 1.8T engines. from a little power like 200HP with just a few Upgrade bits up to a self build forged sleeper cars. RN my new Project is my 07 Polo Cup Edition what gets also a Forged Engine 450HP+ AND DSG swapped into.
So i would love to see how u go for that.

So you've gone from my dream car project to another dream project idea!
VW polo 9n3 gti's are built pn the same platform. So i recon you should find a wrecked gri cup and swap the engine, ecu and trans from that. That way your not swapping platformes and chasing custom mounts
Get an AET 380 turbo, which will see close to 400bhp and uses the same frame turbo so it’s simple to fit then just get some forged rods the rest of the engine is fine at that power
Sending it with chrome sockets. Legend.

Look at 2.0 FSI from mk5 golf gti, it’s the same era, still very tuneable

Good plan for a sleeper. Just so you’re aware, the 225 BAM or earlier (and actually better) 225 APX engines are good for 600bhp as they have forged internals from the factory.
No they do not this rumour has been floating around the 1.8t community for years none of the 1.8t engines have forged rods it’s not the horsepower that kills them it’s the torque 300ftlb is the limit for stock rods across all the engines
@@Simon-sv6qe correct the conrods are the weak point, they still have forged pistons and crankshafts. The BAM actually has a smaller wrist pin than the APX too.
@@ModLyfe all of the 1.8ts have “forged” crank and pistons none of them can safely make anywhere near 600hp even with a fully built and forged engine 600hp is a huge task for these engines and massively expensive I had a fully forged agu big port engine with a g25-550 and made 520hp at the wheels
I've got one of the polos that the fox is based on, only a 1.2 (quite characterful imo), so I've always thought it could take some more power, but I'm not sure it would survive 300 brake... side note; that fox is actually somewhat rare being a 1.4, most are 6-valve 3-cylinder 1.2s with steel wheels
Definitely DSG and I think you should straight pipe that bad boy! I've done a res and back box delete on my 2 litre TSI DSG, and trust me, it sounds how it should. You'll be gapping cars that you definitely shouldn't be 😂.
You won't get a BAM from a golf or a polo, they were only in S3s and TTs, but they attract "BAM tax", I've extensive experience with the 20vt and I put one in a mk2 golf. Use any 20vt with fly by wire, the cable throttle cars are a nightmare to map. The best ones for cheap are AUMs, they use a ko3s turbo which will give you a reliable 230bhp, closer to 260bhp with a hybrid turbo. DSG will create you a whole load of electrical headaches that aren't worth it in a car like that with sub 300bhp
