Those some very well built vehicles.
Great video! I'm trying to get my 1984 Ford LTD running and would love for it to drive like that! :)
Thank you for watching!
@@classicgarage9548 Absolutely! Maybe I can pick your brain. On my 1984 Ford LTD Crown Vic, it has a 302 engine in it. It was CFI, but I'm trying to convert it to carbureted, but I'm having trouble getting it running. It'll fire off and run for a few seconds, but then it will die. I double checked the timing on it, as well a ran the power to the new HEI distributor I put in using the old coil power wire. I haven't finished getting the fuel portion done (I'm adding a pressure regulator to step it down to 5 psi) but I did fill the bowl with gasoline. It seems to run for a few seconds when the electric choke is closed, but when it opens, it will die. I've chased down all the vacuum lines I could find to plug them up. If you have any ideas on it, I would sure be appreciative. Thanks and keep up the good work!
@Gary Elmore If you close the choke and it runs, then you are on the right track with vacuum leaks. Remember that you need the choke about 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch open after a cold start because the engine needs some air to run. Since it isnt factory carbureted, i would check what youve modified. Check carburetor mounting gasket, and make sure it lines up and seals the carburetor to intake. As for timing, set the harmonic balancer to the degree the timing is supposed to be (8-14 degrees?) Every engine and year is different. Once you turn the engine over to that mark on the balancer, take cap off distributor and rotate distributor (change timing) until rotor points at #1 spark plug wire when looking at it from above. Then advance it just a tad more. Timing always seems to be less than what you set it at when putting an engine together. If engine cranks very slowly, timing is too advanced. Check these things and see what happens. Ask all you want, id be more than happy to help.
@@classicgarage9548 Thanks so much! I'll give that a shot!
@@classicgarage9548 Thanks so much again for your advice. I took the carburetor off and there was a lot of charred/sooty stuff on the intake manifold. I'm very confident now that there was a leak in that. There were 4 holes on the plate that kinda just run right under the carb and then the fire blows out the back of it (at least it's towards the firewall and not the gasoline on the other side of the carb!). I'm working now to see if I can find a new adaptor plate, plug up those holes to make a seal, or maybe just move to a 4bbl carb. I'll keep ya posted (I put up videos of it on my youtube page if you want to visually see it)
Dude. I love that old-school turn signal sound. It is very much what I’m used to, unlike this electronic sound Ford has now, sounds like a human smacking his lips. Or hers. That is a nice car.
Did sale fall through? I saw another video of this from a month ago. Glad you decided to keep it.
Yes it did. I just decided to keep it. Id make more videos, but im a few states away from my cars at the moment.
My daily driver is a1990 ltd police interceptor ✅❤️
wishing you could work on my 1979 t bird...im not a motor head...
I'd love to have another LTD best cars I've ever owned
I'd own an old LTD like that over any car on the road today hands down
How much did you get out of that car and I seen your 79 Lincoln how much to pay for it
9,500 but I ended up keeping it. 5,000 for the Lincoln.
The LTD, the most solid car ever to come out of Detroit!.
They wear like an anvil ❤️✅
What engine/ tranny do you have in it?
351m fmx transmission. A lot of people say they are junk, but that hasnt been the case here.
@@classicgarage9548 I dunno about that, I had 2 that reverse broke inside.
After replacing the second one I went to a scrapyard and they had a pile of them that lost reverse.
The guy told me they are known for that even without abuse.
