  • The Drive's Sean Evans drives the 840-hp "Trans Am Bandit Edition," a Chevy Camaro SS-turned-Trans Am, complete with T-tops and a 7.4-liter supercharged V8. It's the product of Trans Am Worldwide, of Florida, the state that gave us Burt Reynolds and crazy, badass things of all description.
    Video shot and edited by Andrew Siceloff, and produced by Cait Knoll.

      This was not always the cast with the Holden Monaro and the Pontiac GTO, +devin johnson. The reality is that the Holden Monaro was actually built upon a slightly longer and wider version of the Chevrolet Nova/Buick Apollo/Pontiac Ventura/Acadia Ventura/Pontiac Phoenix/Buick Skylark platform, which was the GM A Frame Body back in the 1970s, I think.

    • @GlassTopRX7
      @GlassTopRX7 7 років тому +1

      Be a harder sell for GM, those cars were longer and lower. The Camaro is already 25% bigger that the old gen 1 cars, it's 8" longer and 11" wider. I guess they could use a modified corvette chassis but fat Americans wouldn't likely go for it as you have roll in and out of them.
      A 69' Camaro has about the same footprint as my RX-7 which considered tiny by today's standards.

      What year RX-7 because a 69 Camaro is and was considered an intermediate sized car not a compact. The RX-7 was closer to a 911 or 260Z in size than a Camaro that was always bigger in the 1st and 2nd generation. Heavier too.

    /Drive always has the best review vids. This one in particular is more about 2 guys building their American Dream moreover than the car itself. Really would like you guys to revisit their shop and do a 3 or 4 part series on what's actually done, How it's done and the guys/gals who do the work; not just the designers; but the people who are turning the wrenches. Getting to know the individual employees and their different talents speaks more about the car than Any ad or brochure ever would.

A Hennessey package offers a 1 year 12 k miles to 3 years 36 k miles on their higher end kits. If they can offer a 5 year 50 k or more miles on the engine alone for them I would jump on it just for the Fire Bird/replica look. Other then that most folks would be wasting money just to keep it up and running.

      I think if Pontiac was still in business they should of offered a build your own car platform. Now let me get this straight. The high end models 110k Pontiac. Now let's do the math. Buy the SS Camaro 30k for a base model. Then remove the engine buy a new custom built Sonny Leonard's 727ci engine 1400hp on pump gas naturally aspirated for 57k and still be cheaper then buying this car. 87,000$ total. I would not buy this car. To much money. Even if you had to buy accessories of 8k to make everything work you would still be under budget for this car. You would still be at 95k. 15k less then their high end model Pontiac has to offer for the trans am. I say build your own. Production cars are not the way to go. People need to look at the price they are paying for a ready built car. Just because you don't know how to build your own don't mean you can't learn. For 110k I think I would be learning. Although I build my own now. I build racecars, and restore classic cars also. Building one for me is no problem

      I'll let you in on something, the Firebird was first, that's why Firebirds and Camaros are "F" bodies. Chevy flipped out about the Firebird being on the way and were determined to get in the pony car wars, so, they pushed through the Camaro. That's why the Camaro has always looked like an unfinished Firebird, which is exactly what it was.
