Hey, everybody! This video has made my channel grow quite a bit faster than I thought it would, and I decided to make an Instagram for future giveaways and to be able to communicate with everyone easier! instagram.com/trucktenttacoma?r=nametag
Hi, I saw your vid. I've been truck camping since the mid 80's. Here's what I've learned & I'll pass them on to you. 1) Get stuff you need at a camping store for backpacking. It's small, compact, & light weight. 2)Get splash guards for your truck. It'll help keep you & your rig clean. They work. I know. 3) When parking for the night, park headlong into the wind. That way if a storm comes you won't have to worry about a side wind ripping off your camper shell. Plus, if anything comes bouncing towards the truck, since you have a slimmer profile, it might miss you. If it does hit, the front of the truck is reinforced. 4) Use bug spray on the interior doors & windows/ screens openings to help keep bugs out. Use wasp & hornet spray around & on your tires to help keep critters out. Basically, all points of contact on the ground. 5) An inch is a lot of room. Learn how to stack & get used to sand & dirt. Use floor mats to put your shoes on too I hope this helps. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Drive safe. 🤠
I have a truck tent too. My 1st excursion was in my back yard and couldn't even stay all night. What a whimp! Make sure you bring a pee bottle, will make life a whole lot easier. ; - )
I got a queen size 0° sleeping bag, a full size air bed with pump oh and two 12 volt extension cord so I can pump up the air bed, I went crazy and found myself a 1500 watt inverter so I can have some real electric. 12 volt coffee maker. 12 volt electric blanket. Coleman gas grill and a 4-ft folding table. And two large 6 ft x 7 ft camo blankets, now I just need to go camping. About the time I get everything ready the four service here closes the forest because it average temperature every day was 93° and no rain so the forest was closed.
I have the same tent except I have an F-150. I use 2 mattresses out of a fold away couch, they fit perfect between the wheel wells and are as comfortable as your bed would be. Of course, in the summer, I use an OFF mosquito lantern. Perfect amount of light at night.
Those are not MRE’s. MRE stands for meals ready to eat. Those Walmart meals need boiling water. That makes it not ready to eat until you add boiling water
I'm a civil war reenactor. I've been using a floorless tent for years. I just bought a nice truckbed tent but haven't even opened it yet. I have to fabricate a mounting adapter set first, but looking forward to using it. Great video for a first time out !! Wish you could have stayed longer, but being from up here in a more northern state, I get it.
I don't blame you for hauling it out of there before the snow storm gets worse so you're not stuck in it. Here's so tips I learned : To sleep onto your clothes you're waring the next day so they will be warm to wear but long John wear was necessary. As far as the 30 ➕ year MRE.. Good luck, 😊
Good video. I have that same Napier tent for my Tacoma. We purchased an air mattress that fits perfectly over the wheel wells. I am also 6'2" and sleep comfortably in the tent with my wife and Labrador. We bought the connected tent for my Labrador to sleep in, as well as store some gear, but my Lab always comes up in the middle of the night. Although the Napier tent is not difficult to set up, I highly recommend setting it up at home before the first trip so that you are familiar with the tent.
Are your wheel wells in the middle of the truck bed or do they connect to the wall opposite of the tailgate? I bought one of those mattresses for a short bed Tacoma, but the wheel well slots were in the wrong place. My wells connect to the wall under the back window
Thanks for the comments! More videos to come. The videoing can be difficult at times, but it is what motivates to get out. Prepping for a big trip in June for the channel
@Truck Tent Tacoma Yes, I know how hard it can be to even produce a 4 minute video. For a beginning channel, you're doing awesome! I support anyone who can motivate people to enjoy the great outdoors! Your honesty and your ability to produce great content will definitely make your channel grow. As always, thanks for sharing your outdoor adventures! Rick From Virginia
This is the video that I saw, what in the world is that??? So I backed it up and it said Napier on the Tent. I was watching the guy have a mad scramble to get everything packed and get up and gone before it snowed him in!!!! So I googled Napier and saw these really cool looking tents and did some study and some homework and then in about 2 weeks it showed up FedEx. Napier backroads camo truck tent!!!!
I’m a newbie Tacoma, tent camper myself. Born and raised in Texas, I took it up to an elk hunt in NM. Got a little dicey a time or two but had a blast. These trucks are workhorses. I only brought along a JetBoil with the largest canister instead of a stove. Will try that next time.
I've watched thousands of UA-cam camping videos, and for a very first vlog, I'd say 100% well done. Really like your setup, you really have done a lot of research. Have subscribed.
Great first video, I will try the chicken Alfredo ,I have a Chevy Colorado (couldn’t afford a Tacoma) I used to live in Monks Corner S.C. , never went camping, but it’s beautiful country down there , good luck with your channel
I was listening at the point of “My MRE is Fettuccine “ and looked at my wife and said he’ll never do that again! Glad it was Not menu 14🤢 good times man I camp in my 16 F150 and I’ve fish. Planning this years trip now
The mountain house is not an MRE..it is freeze dried. MRE are: meals ready to eat… meaning you can open it up and eat it…no water …no heating even needed :). Live confidently and peacefully
The algorithm has been kind to you! Great video man! I watch all kinds of videos like this and love seeing the meal prep and cook part. Its relaxing. Keep it up man. I subscribed btw!
All I can say is I've spent many a night in a tent with below freezing temps with a 10 degree sleeping bag and never had clothes on other than a t-shirt, underwear and socks. Have fun I'll be watching.
good for you in going solo, went solo last year in my 2016 4runner trail that's outfitted to be somewhat of an overland vehicle, will be going again in may for four days and cannot wait, keep it up ,it's only what you make of it. nice to get out in muther nature.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching. I didn’t realize how sketchy it can be solo until I actually did it. Got another one coming this weekend. Semi overlandish.
New subscriber here in Ireland 🇮🇪 great video loved how you kept it simple and didn't have the whole house with you.looking forward to longer videos from yourself 👍👍💚
Thanks for watching! New videos will be up every week or every other week depending on my schedule. New one coming next weekend. Thank you for the subscription! ☘️
Way better recording/editing quality than my 1st video. lol Scratch that, better than any of my recordings. Although, my intention was never to start a channel for professional purposes. Just a place to send nay sayers about the capabilities of a stock 4R. :) Obviously this content has gained you a LOT of subscribers. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
I appreciate that! I feel like it’s bad quality lol. I had ZERO intention for this video to get 90k views. Now I feel like I have to improve my quality to keep up with my sub count lol

Must have been upstate sc. I live between Columbia and Charleston . Only saw a dusting this year. Just once. Your 100% right people in sc do not do good in snow. Glad you made it home safe. Great video for your first trip.
Dang, funny I find your video. I drive a 2020 Tacoma SR 6' box and use a Napier truck bed tent. I've camped in wind and heavy rain quite a bit. The tents do fairly well with the rain. In really heavy rain it will get through the door zipper and some of the seams. Nothing a little paper towel can't handle. I like it a lot more than a ground tent. Like others mentioned, backpacking gear is great for keeping the bulk of your gear down. I'll have to try that Fettuccini Alfredo. Dehydrated meals are really hit or miss and it's best to try a bunch at home before stocking up. I love some and can't finish some. Looking forward to more videos man.

Colorado is definitely happening! I'd love someone with knowledge of the state to show us around. We are going Route 66 in June, but Colorado is probably going to be within the next year or so. Thinking about March/April of next year to do some skiing.
I'm from NC and probably about the same age as you...and we use to get snow like this all the time...here in the recent years ain't been that much but in the early 90s we use to get all kinds of snow...good video though been thinking about making my own channel just to give me something or a reason to get out of house... Need something to do since I lost my dad and haven't had very much energy or drive
Man, I’m sorry to hear about your dad. The exact reason I made the channel was as a motivation to get out and explore because I always talked about it but never did it. This video somehow exploded and I gained subs faster than I probably should have. I am definitely enjoying getting out though. I wish you the best in the grieving process. I know it isn’t easy
I bought a few of those to try they good so i bought a bunch for emergency situations 😂 biscuits and gravy is good and chili mac and the lasagna one just taste like pasta
Looking forward to more videos! You are doing what I plan to do some day. Nice to see someone new to this so I can learn as you progress. Best of success with the channel. PS: remember as a southerner you can never say any food is as good as the wife's 😂 that is living dangerously
Tacoma is my dream truck. Well done. 1 critique though. You weren’t eating MRE’s. Those were freeze dried meals. Keep up the good work and well done researching before u went out.
Nice video! I have a Tacoma as well. Why did you choose the full size short bed and not the compact short bed? I would like to get one of these, seems well made. Thanks.
Just found ya! I'll definitely check back to see what you're up to. If you haven't tried it yet give the beef stroganoff a test drive!! A buddy of mine is in SC and he does overlanding. Keep it up buddy!
Just came across your video. I subbed the channel. Question, it looks like you drove with the tent still attached to the truck? Was it, or did you take it down? I just got the same tent for Christmas and don't think I would leave it attached while driving.
Thank you! I tried to add subtitles correcting myself but I’m not sure if they’re working. I actually have a video sorta comparing the two coming out soon!
Hey that was a great video, especially dealing with the unusual weather you had in SC. Looks like you did all the right prep for that first solo camping trip. Looking forward to seeing some more. All the best from the UK.
Alright! Sounds like the start of a great channel. Who's land are you on? Do you have to get permission from the land owner? Up here you might have some trouble if you don't ask. Just curious
Highly recommend it. Can pack up and go whenever you want. Put it up and break it down in less than 10 minutes. Going on a 10 day Route 66 trip in June to test it out in a long term setting
Hey, everybody! This video has made my channel grow quite a bit faster than I thought it would, and I decided to make an Instagram for future giveaways and to be able to communicate with everyone easier! instagram.com/trucktenttacoma?r=nametag

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to use it. I am planning on doing an 11 day trip this summer, so this will help tremendously
So many sprays you are using... there might even be a squirrel and bird spray... to deter. 🤣😂

I only bring the air mattress when I'm with my girl. A Colman cott fits perfectly. You'll have standing room, and storage space for coolers ect...
Great job stepping out and doing something new. It's all about having fun outdoors!
I appreciate it! I had fun and I’m itching to go on the next trip here soon

Dang, funny I find your video. I drive a 2020 Tacoma SR 6' box and use a Napier truck bed tent. I've camped in wind and heavy rain quite a bit. The tents do fairly well with the rain. Not bad for a first video from PA here so we are a little more used to snow looked like fun. Ps love the ND hat
Yea we get it about once or twice a year, but that deep only happens once every few years. Go Irish!
Acampamento bacana, gostei do Toyota!
Obrigado!
New to the channel, glad I found it! Great work, I gotta get me a truck tent too
I love mine! I’m doing a 1,000 sub giveaway on my Instagram and a truck tent is one of the prize options if you’re interested!
Awsome video
Thank you!
Props not many would camp in a tent with snow!
Figured if I could get through that one on my first go round, then I should be fine in most other conditions
Alright! Sounds like the start of a great channel. Who's land are you on? Do you have to get permission from the land owner? Up here you might have some trouble if you don't ask. Just curious
Thanks for watching! This particular spot is on one of my best friends land.
@@UA-camHowTo I am glad to hear you have a best friend like that!
@@dougterhune9364 he was briefly featured in my video about my tent, but he should pop up in another soon!
Thank you for sharing

Nice I RTT as well months at a time
I’m itching to go for more than a day or two. I’m a teacher, so once the summer hits I will be doing longer trips and really looking forward to it!
Yes sir 🤝

Thinking about getting a truck tent for my ram
Highly recommend it. Can pack up and go whenever you want. Put it up and break it down in less than 10 minutes. Going on a 10 day Route 66 trip in June to test it out in a long term setting
