What’s the point? People know the damage of a hurricane, the same way people understand the damage of an earthquake, winter storms, tornados and still people live in areas where all this happens.
I live in Fort Myers. Absolutely devastating. The amount of clean up will take many months. Terrible to see things like the pier and Dairy Queen completely gone. Many people I know have no homes, completely nonexistent. The flooding is terrible in some spots. Power and water is all out. Everyone is coming together. Send Prayers.
@@openyoureyes4799 A lot of the people that live in Sanibel and by the Beach are wealthier and many of them are abandoning everything and starting a new life. Those who are not so well off are stuck rebuilding.
I'm from Canada and visited Fort Myers in 2007. It was a very memorable place to me. This saddens me greatly and my heart breaks for all those affected.
I've been through several hurricanes in my life, but Ian, was probably the strongest one I've ever seen. The storm surge, the wind, the rain, It was truly a devastating storm. My heart goes out to all the people effected by it my prayers go out to them too. I hope everyone recovers to the best of their abilites.
I'm so thankful we dodged the bullet here in New Port Richey fl. Cause I was in a mandatory evacuation zone. I feel so bad for them folks. My house could have been just like that.
What I hate most about big storms is most state governments so called "communication plan" - they seem to run to tv first, when they should make camp in a radio station. In a true disaster, the afflicted do NOT have tv: powers out, home is damaged/gone, and there's probably zero cell service. Those needing real help might have a portable radio, or might be lucky enough to have a car radio still functioning. Should we have a federally reserved FM and AM frequency [nationwide] so at least the Guard can bring in mobile broadcasting equipment if an area is truly devastated? Get out of the TV studios mayors etc, and reach for the mic.
When you live on the coast you know the risk’s. Hurricanes are often a topic of conversation so you learn quickly that your rolling the dice. The best advice I could give to anyone is to head for the hills.

Your'e only seeing barrier beaches and beach front communities that go in 4 blocks who were mainly affected by flooding.. Geez ya all havent graduated kindergarden yet
This is by far the the most descriptive coverage of this storm than any news station. The fact that they knew every block in the area and were able to describe what used to be there is unattainable by other news crews. This is by far the worst hit area..😢
Yeah and I'll bet the insurance companies appreciate it when they raise rates for everyone in the USA to pay for Floridians decisions to build in a hurricane zone.
Been to ft Myers beach many times, never liked the warm water but loved the town that gave the old nostalgic feeling. Many thank you's to rescuers and hot food donors!

I was there just 3 weeks ago for my yearly trip to Fort Myers Beach. Knowing the area and seeing this devastation leaves you speechless. EVERYTHING IS gone. The pier,The Dog House, the taco stand. My friend told me the hooters was floating down the street. Lani Kai first floor was down to the studs. This area was absolutely beautiful,laid back, and exactly what everyone needs to chill and relax. Will never be the same but hopefully a complete rebuild will happen sooner than later.

The manufactured homes have been there since the 70s. The codes have changed since then. New homes built for hurricanes will take their place. All the undamaged buildings you see are newer.

No dummbass mostly beach front touristy properties. Inland properties which make up most of Ft. Myers didnt get flooded.. You must have born a lemming, Thats why these areas are designated as flood zones with sky rocket insurance exactly for this situation that's expected.
This gives me flashbacks from Hurricane Andrew. I was a kid and we lived on Key Largo. When we were driving back home through Homestead...Absolutely gone. Neighborhoods of concrete slabs with nothing around them. In many areas Andrew was so powerful it cleaned up after itself by blowing away the debris. My heart goes out to all of these people.
Thank you for uploading this. I have family in Fort Myers who are running ragged helping others in spite of being in the same situation. When they get into an area with internet access, this bird's-eye view of their beloved community will be helpful.
My son is living with friends of ours in Fort Myers. Luckily they all fled before the storm hit. Their home is destroyed. I stayed in Fort Myers during the summer and remember all these places. Just heartbreaking.

I was in Fort Myers between June and July. My sister Malgorzata lives there. A beautiful village. Paradise on earth. Americans believe that you will rise. Poland was destroyed many times. two years. I wish you with all my heart strength and peace in rebuilding. You have a beautiful country of cool people. I have never met so many smiling people. Optimism beats from you. Florida resident for 40 years & been thru horrible storms but what hit SW Florida was the worst I've ever seen. Here in northeast part of state we got extremely lucky to avoid any major damage. Prayers for all the people affected by this storm. 😇

As I surveyed the aftermath of this island community, one theme became apparent and impossible to miss: the fact that some remaining structures - both residential and commercial - appeared relatively unscathed by the effects of the storm, while other structures revealed a bygone era of antiquated building codes. It is storms like Ian that will reveal the intrinsic weaknesses and vulnerability of site-built dwellings to extreme weather events. Factors such as poorly designed structural elements, shoddy and/or marginal building materials, and downright omissions and corner-cutting, may never reveal these secrets to those who pour their hearts and finances into living on the beach....Until a storm of this magnitude and strength. Some of the structures that fared well with this storm were thoughtfully designed with the goal of surviving storms like Ian. Building materials were painstakingly obtained, and the extra attention to detail and the "love" baked into these dwellings by the builders was money well-spent, and underscores the importance of staying ahead of the building codes, upgrading older units, and leaving town if there are any doubts as to the soundness of a structure if such a storm approaches. Life is so precious, and the estimates of the final death toll for the state of Florida is truly heartbreaking.
@@depalma13 It would be a crapshoot to predict the outcome ofa representative unit of a modern manufactured dwelling after enduring a storm like Ian. Depending on the intentions of the property owner and zoning laws, one of these dwellings may be suitable for a vacation rental or a second home without a fortune needing to be spent on storm hardening and elevation. When they are destroyed during a powerful storm, a Ouija board and a deck of Tarot cards are not needed to predict the likely outcome of these manufactured dwellings. I'm from Louisiana, where hurricanes and the resulting damage and devastation are part of living here, similar to gambling and water shortages are mainstream issues in Nevada. When trailer homes are reduced to rubble, no one is really surprised in this state, and hopefully the owners have cleared out their cherished heirlooms during the preceding warning period and evacuated the area, if low-lying. The structures that I was referring to in my OP are the site-built variety - either on a monolithic foundation or built upon pilings high enough to avoid the highest storm surge ever experienced - plus a few more feet. Those on foundations are built to sacrifice the first floor or two (or even three), whilst preserving the living area above, even if exposed to the eyewall. This is when having an experienced contractor/builder is essential, since the lower area needs to be built in such a way that the walls give way more readily than usual, allowing the surge and wind to pass through. Just obtaining the pilings and sinking them to an adequate depth for an average size house can run into the 6-figure range if a competent contractor is employed. You're right, but a lot of the charm of the place was in those older buildings. The next iteration of FMB will be cookie cutter 3 story mega mansions and huge resort complexes, like Bonita Beach and the Margaritaville resort.
High density building and no wind break trees helped in this destruction. Many of the old building Pre--1970 are structurally sounder than the more modern ones. Also building on strong piers hels The main problem with those condo's was their orientation..Here in FL building the Seminole built their homes facing North/South in order to give the winds a less surface to hit. Facing the ocean/gulf is WRONG those face straight on into the winds force.
I celebrated my 40th birthday on Ft. Meyers Beach. It was the best birthday of my life. My heart’s breaking over this event. I’m praying for all in Florida, as I lived in S. Florida three separate times.

It was something, I've never experienced in my entire life. I had no choice but to stay. I was in 8ft of water in a blow up pool, until I was rescued at 3:26am by my coworker. Blessings and prayers for all effected!
Lived in St Pete for 25 years, now living in Dallas, TX. Watching the storm track for the Tampa Bay area, I told my wife when Ian was just clearing Cuba that it will more likely come ashore closer to Ft. Myers. Very happy for my family still in St. Pete that dodged the bullet, but seeing what happened to Ft Myers.... it brings me to tears...
St Pete is my hometown too. My dad lives in Englewood now and was going to evacuate back to St Pete, but chose to stay south because St Pete was predicted to get the direct hit. His home was spared but his neighborhood is 80% gone.
Some storms change things forever. Irene did that to Cosey Beach in East Haven, CT in 2011. This is beyond awful! As someone that's gone through it, My heart breaks for everyone! 😢♥️🙏🏼❤️😇 prayers to You.
2013...Hurricane Sandy...... in New York & New Jersey....My son lost his home....on Coney Island - Boardwalk-Brooklyn, NY...He has never been the same....a drifter now....in & out of jobs....different states.....now back on drugs.....TERRIBLE....!!! I am still trying to assist him....tears.
I feel deeply deeply sorry to see all that destruction. A friend of mine lives in Bradenton and his house is completely wripped in parts and there is debris everywhere. It's a tragedy. I wish you all the power in the world for the next weeks. It's so sad.
Having lived in southeast Florida for many years and after many storms and hurricanes, I could not literally continue to feel safe any more and had to leave for good. Andrew was a wake up call but it took me 5 yrs to decide to leave as the phenomenon kept repeating several times ove half of the year each year (called the hurricane season), even though my house and neighborhood never got any damage to speak of.

Was my first stop when moving to US from UK. I remember asking about the blue tarps on the houses and the toppled mansions at the edge of the water ways in 05... but this is shattering. Over 130 miles away it destroyed my back yard and ripped trees out of the ground and sounded like a freight train!

Thank you for the coverage - I was able to get a glimpse of the building where we stay. Seems still in one piece, which is the smallest little sliver of good amongst this extremely sad sight. We ate at Doc Ford's 2 weeks ago. It's hard to believe what happened. I'm stunned.

Just FYI, Modular homes are homes that are essentially like a traditional build, but have been pre-built in sections and transported to a concrete foundation site. Manufactured homes are like "trailer houses" that have an axle and wheels and can be dragged. Thank you for all your reporting.
One of the reasons property insurance is so expensive in areas like this. Even though these are pretty rare occurrences, the losses are enormous for everyone.

@@mtnshelby7059 Wise move. It's the reason I made sure to locate at least 15-20 minutes (drive time) from the Gulf Coast and avoided even considering the Atlantic Coast where hurricanes make landfall more frequently.
As a native Floridian born and raised, this is one of the reasons I left. When the seas and tides rise, they will also retreat. That is a natural process as old as the earth. Why put your house in the way? Instead of trying to "develop" coastal areas that were previously wetlands, let them return to their natural state and just stay out of the way.
Seeing that devestation in Fort Myers is just heartbreaking. After beeing there the last time in 2017 just right after Hurricance Irma, i thought this was bad, but Ian... WOW. Hope they can recover quickly from that event...

My husband's brother and sister and families are in Ft Myers. They are OK. Their homes are OK too. His mother is in an assisted living in Naples. Haven't heard about her yet.
Hurricane Michael a few years ago did the same thing to Mexico Beach, FL. It will be years and years before Fort Meyers Beach will even look a fraction of what it used to be. Prayers and love for those that are reeling from the effects of this storm.
What about new Orleans? It's totally below sea level. These areas in Florida aren't prone to flooding. This was a storm surge from a hurricane. New Orleans must run giant water pumps 24/7 to stop flooding

I'm not saying no coastal building but that it must be very limited " for deep water ports" just think of the insurance saving, reduced taxes, reduced mountains of trash going to the land fill and most important reduce the loss of life. If all the tourist traps were built say 5 miles inland that would leave more room for beaches for everyone to use, it's much easier and cost effective to replace a beach front park then an entire coastal city.
@@darylbauer5184 the flooding from Katrina was from a levy breaking. It's not just FL, many cities in California are below sea level for instance, Sacramento levis hold back the delta and the Sacramento river back from flooding certain parts. thats just one example.

However, the growth/building I'm discussing all occurred after WWII of which 99% of this new growth was/is all about bringing in tourist dollars for these " new" cities. Most of these coastal cities didn't even exist until the 70's thru 90's when greedy land developers and slimy politicians allowed these areas to be developed. Being a former Florida resident, I know for a fact that many of these areas were nothing more than undeveloped swam/mangroves until a few short years ago. There has been unchecked development along both coast, major rivers, large lakes, fresh/salt swamps for decades. Had these developments been more controlled/stopped we would not be seeing what we are today. People had better remember one thing the insurance companies are about to take a major hit to their wallets, which they will pass the cost on to every insurance consumer in America even if you live in Alaska.

Anyways my point is its not just coastal, many inland areas are effected to. What are we supposed to do, move everyone? Where to? Flooding isnt the only problem, what about the 55-60million people that live on a fault line in the states of OR/WA/CA/NV, they are over do for a big earthquake, should we tell them to stop building in those states, or all move out? Point is, nowhere is really safe, but if the infrastructure is in good shape and being maintained most of those places have been shown to be safe(relatively). But and act of god is just that, and what can you do about it? Nasty Hurricanes or big earthquakes are what they like to call the "sunshine tax". Its the price your pay for living in an area that is nice 99.9% of the time.

Its just so sad to see. Watching from the coast of Norway, but we never had storms like this, ever. Worst is, Florida have hurricanes every year more or less, so it must be hopeless to rebuild knowing such storms will come back again and again. I have only been to USA / Florida once, in November 2011. I was in the Hollywood town at a beach hotel, and also visited Fort Lauderdale. I do not know how it is there now. But by the pictures here it looks just horrible. I am so sorry for you all....I hate winds and storms, they are just too scary. Living by the sea myself on a small island, I know about weathers here up north, but I never saw such things as you guys are suffering. My heart is aching for you. ❤️

Unfortunately, developers are looking at this devastation and saying "as soon as they clear this garbage up, we can buy this land and build a brand new, high end, and super profitable housing projects here. We'll sell million dollar homes like hotcakes!!!" And they are probably right.....

As a full-time RVer, I am blown away(no pun intended) that there are TRAILERS right on the coast. I'm in California and even I know that is just an unbelievably dumb move in hurricane country. That's like building a wooden house in the middle of a forest and being surprised when it burns to the ground during a forest fire. Ya, we have those people out here, too. Years ago, a property came up for sale along this stretch. Deep dive into it and the area, I realized it was a travesty of epic proportions, that any residential building was permitted to be built and bought, along any of these outer banks nearby areas
That is so sad to see the devastation caused by this hurricane. Far too many people are suffering through this and even though the hurricane is finished, the real damage for these people is only just beginning. I pray that everyone gets through this without too much loss.
@@steveb796 No drones were allowed after the storm. Th FAA had a TFR with specific rules for the news heli's. We are the SkyFOX helicopter out of Tampa.

I'm from Canada and visited Fort Myers in 2007. It was a very memorable place to me. This saddens me greatly and my heart breaks for all those affected.

I'm so thankful we dodged the bullet here in New Port Richey fl. Cause I was in a mandatory evacuation zone. I feel so bad for them folks. My house could have been just like that.
What I hate most about big storms is most state governments so called "communication plan" - they seem to run to tv first, when they should make camp in a radio station. In a true disaster, the afflicted do NOT have tv: powers out, home is damaged/gone, and there's probably zero cell service. Those needing real help might have a portable radio, or might be lucky enough to have a car radio still functioning. Should we have a federally reserved FM and AM frequency [nationwide] so at least the Guard can bring in mobile broadcasting equipment if an area is truly devastated? Get out of the TV studios mayors etc, and reach for the mic.

I was there just 3 weeks ago for my yearly trip to Fort Myers Beach. Knowing the area and seeing this devastation leaves you speechless. EVERYTHING IS gone. The pier,The Dog House, the taco stand. My friend told me the hooters was floating down the street. Lani Kai first floor was down to the studs. This area was absolutely beautiful,laid back, and exactly what everyone needs to chill and relax. Will never be the same but hopefully a complete rebuild will happen sooner than later.

The manufactured homes have been there since the 70s. The codes have changed since then. New homes built for hurricanes will take their place. All the undamaged buildings you see are newer.

This gives me flashbacks from Hurricane Andrew. I was a kid and we lived on Key Largo. When we were driving back home through Homestead...Absolutely gone. Neighborhoods of concrete slabs with nothing around them. In many areas Andrew was so powerful it cleaned up after itself by blowing away the debris. My heart goes out to all of these people.
Thank you for uploading this. I have family in Fort Myers who are running ragged helping others in spite of being in the same situation. When they get into an area with internet access, this bird's-eye view of their beloved community will be helpful.
My son is living with friends of ours in Fort Myers. Luckily they all fled before the storm hit. Their home is destroyed. I stayed in Fort Myers during the summer and remember all these places. Just heartbreaking.

I was in Fort Myers between June and July. My sister Malgorzata lives there. A beautiful village. Paradise on earth. Americans believe that you will rise. Poland was destroyed many times. two years. I wish you with all my heart strength and peace in rebuilding. You have a beautiful country of cool people. I have never met so many smiling people. Optimism beats from you. Take care of people and animals you will rise. After that you will come out even stronger!

Florida resident for 40 years & been thru horrible storms but what hit SW Florida was the worst I've ever seen. Here in northeast part of state we got extremely lucky to avoid any major damage. Prayers for all the people affected by this storm. 😇

As I surveyed the aftermath of this island community, one theme became apparent and impossible to miss: the fact that some remaining structures - both residential and commercial - appeared relatively unscathed by the effects of the storm, while other structures revealed a bygone era of antiquated building codes. It is storms like Ian that will reveal the intrinsic weaknesses and vulnerability of site-built dwellings to extreme weather events. Factors such as poorly designed structural elements, shoddy and/or marginal building materials, and downright omissions and corner-cutting, may never reveal these secrets to those who pour their hearts and finances into living on the beach....Until a storm of this magnitude and strength. Some of the structures that fared well with this storm were thoughtfully designed with the goal of surviving storms like Ian. Building materials were painstakingly obtained, and the extra attention to detail and the "love" baked into these dwellings by the builders was money well-spent, and underscores the importance of staying ahead of the building codes, upgrading older units, and leaving town if there are any doubts as to the soundness of a structure if such a storm approaches. Life is so precious, and the estimates of the final death toll for the state of Florida is truly heartbreaking.
Most of those mobile home parks were from the 70’s and 80’s. That’s why they were obliterated.

Depending on the intentions of the property owner and zoning laws, one of these dwellings may be suitable for a vacation rental or a second home without a fortune needing to be spent on storm hardening and elevation. When they are destroyed during a powerful storm, a Ouija board and a deck of Tarot cards are not needed to predict the likely outcome of these manufactured dwellings. I'm from Louisiana, where hurricanes and the resulting damage and devastation are part of living here, similar to gambling and water shortages are mainstream issues in Nevada. When trailer homes are reduced to rubble, no one is really surprised in this state, and hopefully the owners have cleared out their cherished heirlooms during the preceding warning period and evacuated the area, if low-lying. The structures that I was referring to in my OP are the site-built variety - either on a monolithic foundation or built upon pilings high enough to avoid the highest storm surge ever experienced - plus a few more feet. Those on foundations are built to sacrifice the first floor or two (or even three), whilst preserving the living area above, even if exposed to the eyewall. This is when having an experienced contractor/builder is essential, since the lower area needs to be built in such a way that the walls give way more readily than usual, allowing the surge and wind to pass through. Just obtaining the pilings and sinking them to an adequate depth for an average size house can run into the 6-figure range if a competent contractor is employed. You're right, but a lot of the charm of the place was in those older buildings. The next iteration of FMB will be cookie cutter 3 story mega mansions and huge resort complexes, like Bonita Beach and the Margaritaville resort.
High density building and no wind break trees helped in this destruction. Many of the old building Pre--1970 are structurally sounder than the more modern ones. Also building on strong piers hels The main problem with those condo's was their orientation..Here in FL building the Seminole built their homes facing North/South in order to give the winds a less surface to hit. Facing the ocean/gulf is WRONG those face straight on into the winds force.

Lived in St Pete for 25 years, now living in Dallas, TX. Watching the storm track for the Tampa Bay area, I told my wife when Ian was just clearing Cuba that it will more likely come ashore closer to Ft. Myers. Very happy for my family still in St. Pete that dodged the bullet, but seeing what happened to Ft Myers.... it brings me to tears...

St Pete is my hometown too. My dad lives in Englewood now and was going to evacuate back to St Pete, but chose to stay south because St Pete was predicted to get the direct hit. His home was spared but his neighborhood is 80% gone.
Some storms change things forever. Irene did that to Cosey Beach in East Haven, CT in 2011. This is beyond awful! As someone that's gone through it, My heart breaks for everyone! 😢♥️🙏🏼❤️😇 prayers to You.

When you compare the images in this video as a before and after to those found on Google maps, it's mind boggling the level of devastation to be seen.
Notice that newer construction buildings did okay because they have updated building codes. But the older buildings were really devestated.

Having lived in southeast Florida for many years and after many storms and hurricanes, I could not literally continue to feel safe any more and had to leave for good. Andrew was a wake up call but it took me 5 yrs to decide to leave as the phenomenon kept repeating several times ove half of the year each year (called the hurricane season), even though my house and neighborhood never got any damage to speak of.
So heartbreaking. Praying for all those impacted by this terrible storm. Please don't forget the animals. Pets and wildlife need our help too.

Was my first stop when moving to US from UK. I remember asking about the blue tarps on the houses and the toppled mansions at the edge of the water ways in 05... but this is shattering. Over 130 miles away it destroyed my back yard and ripped trees out of the ground and sounded like a freight train!
So Sad! My whole family was just down there last spring. Was such a nice fun place to Vacation. Such nice people all over. Florida is strong and will bounce back. Many prayers for all those in Florida! 🙏🏼

Thank you for the coverage - I was able to get a glimpse of the building where we stay. Seems still in one piece, which is the smallest little sliver of good amongst this extremely sad sight. We ate at Doc Ford's 2 weeks ago. It's hard to believe what happened. I'm stunned.

Just FYI, Modular homes are homes that are essentially like a traditional build, but have been pre-built in sections and transported to a concrete foundation site. Manufactured homes are like "trailer houses" that have an axle and wheels and can be dragged. Thank you for all your reporting.
Modular homes indeed are mass produced mobile homes. That's why mobile trailer parks are obliterated in tornados.

One of the reasons property insurance is so expensive in areas like this. Even though these are pretty rare occurrences, the losses are enormous for everyone.
I just relocated alone from a high insurance high fire zone and avoiding high natural disaster zones was at the top of my list of places to move.

@@mtnshelby7059 Wise move. It's the reason I made sure to locate at least 15-20 minutes (drive time) from the Gulf Coast and avoided even considering the Atlantic Coast where hurricanes make landfall more frequently.
As a native Floridian born and raised, this is one of the reasons I left. When the seas and tides rise, they will also retreat. That is a natural process as old as the earth. Why put your house in the way? Instead of trying to "develop" coastal areas that were previously wetlands, let them return to their natural state and just stay out of the way.
Seeing that devestation in Fort Myers is just heartbreaking. After beeing there the last time in 2017 just right after Hurricance Irma, i thought this was bad, but Ian... WOW. Hope they can recover quickly from that event...

Hurricane Michael a few years ago did the same thing to Mexico Beach, FL. It will be years and years before Fort Meyers Beach will even look a fraction of what it used to be. Prayers and love for those that are reeling from the effects of this storm.

I'm not saying no coastal building but that it must be very limited " for deep water ports" just think of the insurance saving, reduced taxes, reduced mountains of trash going to the land fill and most important reduce the loss of life. If all the tourist traps were built say 5 miles inland that would leave more room for beaches for everyone to use, it's much easier and cost effective to replace a beach front park then an entire coastal city.
@@darylbauer5184 the flooding from Katrina was from a levy breaking. It's not just FL, many cities in California are below sea level for instance, Sacramento levis hold back the delta and the Sacramento river back from flooding certain parts. thats just one example.
@@nn-dj2nu I'm well aware of the history of Coastal cities, which back in the day were necessary to the protection/growth of the country. However, the growth/building I'm discussing all occurred after WWII of which 99% of this new growth was/is all about bringing in tourist dollars for these " new" cities. Most of these coastal cities didn't even exist until the 70's thru 90's when greedy land developers and slimy politicians allowed these areas to be developed. Being a former Florida resident, I know for a fact that many of these areas were nothing more than undeveloped swam/mangroves until a few short years ago. There has been unchecked development along both coast, major rivers, large lakes, fresh/salt swamps for decades. Had these developments been more controlled/stopped we would not be seeing what we are today. People had better remember one thing the insurance companies are about to take a major hit to their wallets, which they will pass the cost on to every insurance consumer in America even if you live in Alaska.
@@darylbauer5184 Insurance companies are a joke, they dont pay out anyway. I live in FL, that being said i live about 15miles from the coast, its cheaper and safer. Anyways my point is its not just coastal, many inland areas are effected to. What are we supposed to do, move everyone? Where to? Flooding isnt the only problem, what about the 55-60million people that live on a fault line in the states of OR/WA/CA/NV, they are over do for a big earthquake, should we tell them to stop building in those states, or all move out? Point is, nowhere is really safe, but if the infrastructure is in good shape and being maintained most of those places have been shown to be safe(relatively). But and act of god is just that, and what can you do about it? Nasty Hurricanes or big earthquakes are what they like to call the "sunshine tax". Its the price your pay for living in an area that is nice 99.9% of the time.

Worst is, Florida have hurricanes every year more or less, so it must be hopeless to rebuild knowing such storms will come back again and again. I have only been to USA / Florida once, in November 2011. I was in the Hollywood town at a beach hotel, and also visited Fort Lauderdale. I do not know how it is there now. But by the pictures here it looks just horrible. I am so sorry for you all....I hate winds and storms, they are just too scary. Living by the sea myself on a small island, I know about weathers here up north, but I never saw such things as you guys are suffering. My heart is aching for you. ❤️
We don't really get Hurricanes like this either, this was like a once in 100-500 year hurricane they are saying.

Unfortunately, developers are looking at this devastation and saying "as soon as they clear this garbage up, we can buy this land and build a brand new, high end, and super profitable housing projects here. We'll sell million dollar homes like hotcakes!!!" And they are probably right.....

As a full-time RVer, I am blown away(no pun intended) that there are TRAILERS right on the coast. I'm in California and even I know that is just an unbelievably dumb move in hurricane country. That's like building a wooden house in the middle of a forest and being surprised when it burns to the ground during a forest fire. Ya, we have those people out here, too. Good thing they have some decent leadership down there. Watch this, Joe. THIS is how you build back better.

Exactly! And then ALL of the EMS, police, and volunteers who then must risk their own lives to recue them. We live in Palm Beach Gardens and offered friends and family lodging with us and we were told "we're going to hunker down". Craziness and utter selfishness.

Anybody from that area I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I live in Venice. It just missed us but it still destroyed trees but we were blessed that our property or at home wasn't destroyed. So sorry you guys are dealing with this
Years ago, a property came up for sale along this stretch. Deep dive into it and the area, I realized it was a travesty of epic proportions, that any residential building was permitted to be built and bought, along any of these outer banks nearby areas

That is so sad to see the devastation caused by this hurricane. Far too many people are suffering through this and even though the hurricane is finished, the real damage for these people is only just beginning. I pray that everyone gets through this without too much loss.

@@steveb796 No drones were allowed after the storm. Th FAA had a TFR with specific rules for the news heli's. We are the SkyFOX helicopter out of Tampa.
