You know your JDM when you import this car and refuse to replace the tires because the current ones have "real" JDM air in them.
You know you're JDM when you ship compressed air from Japan to fill your tires.
You know you’re JDM when you carry an oxygen mask with a tank full of JDM air in it so you can BECOME JDM
JDM air hits different
You know you're JDM when you build a road network with bitumen from Japan just so you don't have to drive your car on baka gaijin roads.
You know you're JDM when you're 28 and your Mom is still folding your Underoos and she reminds you to put them away immediately upon arrival from your job at Blockbuster.
This Toyota Michael Cera seems quirky yet non-threatening.
I'm disappointed that I had to scroll this far down to see a single Michael Cera joke.
I can't be the only one who feels threatened by Michael Cera just because of how non threatening he is.
@@WredFawks I'm threatened cuz he slapped Rihanna's ass in that one movie
OHH I get it now
Just like Michael Cera
I'm trying to imagine the Safelite auto glass guy arriving and seeing a Sera. "Uhhh....uhhh....I...don't have that on the truck." Lol
Terry Orcutt LOL
Forget Safelite, even their counterparts in Japan aren't going to have it. Toyota built less than 16,000 of these things, so it's not like there's any NOS or aftermarket support, and finding a donor for used parts isn't going to be much easier.
I want to see them restore one with broken glass on "Wheeler Dealers", just to see what sort of crazy solution they'd come up with. Considering the size and complex shapes of these glass pieces, I don't think it'd be as simple as cutting another windshield to fit like they did with that Saab. They'd probably have to have somebody make a replacement from scratch, most likely out of plexiglass.
You’d be contacting expert automotive glassmakers to get replacements for this. You would need to spend an inordinate amount of money on it too. Don’t take to places where someone could try a smash and grab, don’t drive it on gravel and be very careful in the city
The windshield might be doable, actually. It looks like it might be the same one found on the contemporary Tercel, which makes sense considering that the Sera, L40 Tercel, L40 Paseo, and P80 Starlet were all more or less based on the same platform.

Aesthetic 90s teal is my new favorite color. That is if I actually acknowledge colors beyond the eight primary colors!
There are 3 primary colors: red, blue, yellow. Green, orange, and purple are secondary colors because they're mixes of the primaries. Not hating, just an FYI
Who's back here after Mr. Regular announced he's getting a Sera as the new RCR car?
I had a girlfriend who had one. It felt faster than it was because you had excellent visibility which somehow messes with your perception of speed. We had to run the air con all the time in winter or it fogged up, even in New Zealands mild winters.
I can only speculate that these would have been a huge hit if they had sold them globally but that would probably have made too much economic sense when they where trying to bankrupt the company.
The car I wish was Manual and common
there are manual ones and i expect they can be swapped easily
antsolja It's just a fancy Toyota Starlet, a swap would be easy and cheap.
There are manual versions of it, its just RCR getting automatic versions of toyota cars for reviews........ cuz america -_-
But they're slow..

I love how he gave it a full respray! Not many people out there would choose to do that for an old Sera. Keep it alive buddy!

There are very few youtubers that genuinely make me laugh out loud. Love the channel, just discovered and I've been binge watching ever since keep up the good work!
Toyota had the best cars in the 90s nobody had a better lineup
Too bad they did not bring those beauties to America. :(
@@angelgjr1999 Japan knew to keep their best to themselves.
GEO had some quick little 2 door cars.
@@milespannell6266 We got many of them in the UK. We got many of the JDM Kei cars too :)
Cramped cities + high fuel prices = weird tiny cars :D
Nissan had a pretty good lineup, but they kept some of the good stuff out of America too.
To the guys who heard beamng like I did and immedately looked for mods:
I think he meant Assetto Corsa. It has a modded Sera in 3 specs, stock TRD and "what the actual fuck this has awd and a widebody"
I thought so. I play BeamNG everyday, never even seen the Sera as a WIP mod.
Thank you, was already looking around for the car in the webpage.
oof I was hoping it was actually in beam
I was just looking through as well, as soon as rcr mentioned beamng that was a record scratch moment for me...
That wide body has unbelievable amounts of understeer. The Trd is great for touge tracks
So the three questions are cargo, cargo, and cargo.
actual Cargo reqs. Where will the car-go, and your emotional cargo...
OMG I have been looking for one of these forever. I am so glad you're doing a RCR of one. It's my favorite of the 25-year imports.
Watching RCR in France:
10AM: Oh look, a new review, nice
Looking forwards to the Citroen DS, the summer exchange student of the car world encapsulating all that is good about french cars of the era.
@@thomas316 Well, there was quite a few interesting french cars in the late 1950's/60's (Renault 16, Panhard Dyna Z are my personnal favorites)
I'd like a review of the Citroën Xantia, that must be the cheapest car ever to be as comfortable as a Rolls Royce
My parents had a renault 5 before they bought a 89 wagon 5spd corolla when we lived in Germany. I would rock a renault 5 with a k20 for sure.

Thank you Mr Regular for making content that no matter what year it is, it's pleasurable to watch and listen while making Saturday morning coffee and feeling great about everything. I've seen this video so many times and I will see it so many times again. Because it's great
Can't wait to see what Mr. Regular does with the Sera he bought
Actually we did get a Toyota Starlet in America during the early 80's. Though this may be related to a Japanese only vehicle with the same name.
The Sera was built on the same platform as the 80-series Starlet. The Starlet you're thinking of is the 60-series, two generations before.
Hnm
My parents had that version of the Starlet. Tiny Tiny car.
@@TBustah I figured it was something like that. I mostly remember the Starlet because a neighbor had one. Fairly small, even by compact standards of the time, but apparently got excellent mileage. She thought the gas gauge was broken, because after a week it had barely moved. Nothing like her Pontiac (Catalina, I believe).
Christopher Conard A classmate of mine used to have a Catalina, and that’s exactly why he got rid of it. XD
Shame on you, to pump up Sera prices even more.
I never heard of this car so I wouldn't worry about that
@@ScubaSteveM45 me too
Well now you did and you liked it, now you wanna buy it so you're another possible buyer, like a lot of the people that watched this video so now there is a lot more people wanting to buy this car but there isn't more of them to sell so the people selling it can charge more for it because there is more demand, supply and demand bro
M Scuba I saw this car in Gran Turismo 4 lol
Good time to buy an AZ-1 though
"Yeah, man, my Toyota's doors inspired the doors on the McLaren F1."
Its amazing how this car inspired the doors for the McLaren F1
Crazy how things turn out
One of my most favorite car's ever is finally now been reviewed on RCR!! Thank you, you introduced everyone to the greatness that is the Sera!! I hope to own one someday!
The US did get the Starlet for 3 years. From 1981 to 84.
My first car was a 82 Toyota Starlet. 1.3 LTR. Rear wheel drive 5 speed. Wish I never sold it.
Oh, those were pretty OK, that generation. Honestly, even the front drive Tercels were pretty nice for what they were. With a stick, anyway, The autos of the time still added slows.
I had a friend that had one until he flipped it into a ditch. He walked away but the Starlet didn't. It was a good car.
>>It's parts are easier to find
Can't find wiper controller
I can't imagine what you do if that window cracks....
Sera, the car I only knew of its existence thanks to Gran Turismo 4.
That coffee class you had to play in order to build stats to play other classes.
I like how the Sera flexes it's butterfly doors on the dealership/garage
Oh man I remember seeing this car in an old Indian movie
I thought it was the Celica lol then I found out it is the Sera
An underrated car and one of the coolest cars ever made
Looks like a Mazda mx3. You should do a review on a Mazda mx3 the V6
@TheLegend27 I had one of those! 😃. The Mazda MX-3 1.6 Litre Twin Cam. Bought 5th hand at 33,000 miles. Drove it to 77,000 miles over 8.5 years before part exchanging it for a Toyota Prius Tspirit Hybrid.
The MX-3 was ultra reliable, never broke down, even had passive rear wheel steer.
Loved my 1998 MX-3, was sorry to part with it, but did so out of purely economic reasons. Fuel was too expensive in the UK and it cost much more than a fully loaded Mercedes C Class to insure.
I’m very happy with my top of the range Prius Tspirit (Top UK spec, including voice command capability), BUT......
I do miss the sheer exterior beauty of the MX-3. It looked almost as cute as the Toyota Sera, but rather bigger with a lot less glass.
The driver of a Sera looks like an F-16 Pilot perched on top of the fighter and clearly visible to all.
In an MX-3 you seemed to sit so low, you were barely visible - as if you were piloting an Aurora Skunk Works aircraft prototype 🤓
Been really looking forward to see this car here, great review dude
finally, a RCReview! was worried it was another mislabeled POV drive
Outside of the performance stuff from Japan, this is the first “Regular car” that I’d want from Japan that I could see myself importing
I came back to this today after Doug's just-released Autozam review. The beginning of this is so good, classic
Awesome review. These are great little 90's cars.
I converted one to electric for my parents about 9 years ago, still going strong.
The "Ramona Flowers > Jetset" line was too real. Like a fake punch to the gut that makes you feel out of breath... Now I gotta go try to convince the local "Hipsters" at the tap house that Macross is the best anime.
I wish you luck in your endeavor.
The narrator is awesome!!! Love the LS Winnebago video "He eats a taco with a plastic fork"
I’m glad to see the reviews plus the POV drives. The POV drives especially remind me of the older style reviews
This is one of your best reviews!! Thanks

I remember seeing this exact car at Radwood East, looked so cool in that color. The RPF-01s are a nice touch
My friend owns a turbo charged, manual converted Sera and it gets so many looks, its fantastic. What a stunning car.
this is one of the exclusive mr. regular videos that stand out by far in regular cars history and i can't have the words to flatter enough.
The Ramona complaining monologue, you sounded like Louie Anderson. 😊
"You want a car to Bamboozle Ramona Flowers" LMFAO story of my life!
That's one of my favorite jdm cars. It's good to see you reviewing one 👌
4:55 it has a "nut cooler" under the steering wheel. My truck had that. Love it. Good video man
It may be 4 am but a RCR video is a RCR video
"This car was a formula D chase car behind an ls swapped BMW" oh no you didn't.
whew
Diagram that sentence
Thank you Mr. Regular, we needed this
good to have these style reviews again, they're my favorite
RCR shattering my dream of becoming a billionaire web comic artist. 😭😭
I've wanted a Sera since I learned about them... about 2/3 years a ago.
Here after he announces this is his new project car. Big excite
I remember when this guy left you a note asking you to plug his channel, and you did more than that by reviewing his car! The world needs more people like Mr. Regular.
Holy Shit, Is This A Motherfuckin Gran Turismo 4 Reference?!
RCR is back with a bang
Mr. Regular you have a very nice sounding voice. Very pleasant to listen to. Keep the videos coming you're awesome
I know what you mean about the happy conversations - I have a 6G Celica (inb4 rev up your engines) and I get so many people, usually middle aged coming up to me and talking about how they used to have one of those and it made them happy to see one still around.
He bought one. You knew he would.
It’s like a combo of an ae86, sw20 mr2, and autozam
Yeah you’re right! I’m not as well versed in Toyota corollas
...but more modern Toyota (safety through making cars boring)
At and fwd.. come on..
Love these videos with this guy. They're hilarious.
thank you for the observation of conversations and how people are losing that, because it's important
this is the kind of car you see at a car meet and go "what is it? oh... cool" and then never talk to the owner again
Hahahahaha
The safer, cuter, MR2 SW20
I wish the MR2 had those kind of doors.. wouldn't really change the tendecy towards condensation and leaking roof..
I wonder if the seals starts leaking on the Sera though..
Wow that was one of your nicest reviews ever!
Mr Regular.. You Never Cease to amaze me with these obscure cars
We're going to build this Sera on our channel if anyone is interested
Two mentions of its aesthetic without going full A E S T H E T I C...
Son, I am disappoint.
5:24 Joe's smile describes what a joy it is to drive A Sera, not only that but that's also the expression the car has.
“Butterflies are nicer than seagulls”... epic!
If an engine has a thicker head gasket wouldn't that make the compression ratio lower?
Yeah, but it should allow for higher compression.
Speaking of which I got a 93 Tercel with your name on it.
This is one of the cars that made me go wow as a kid back in the early nineties Bombay.. I was astonished to learn it got such a small motor when I did. Lovely car.
Last song was pretty good, nice work Roman!
and you can always swap a 4A GE or a 7A GE in there
Ooh butterflies are nicer than seagulls..🤣
Best episode in awhile. Love it.
Yay a regular regular car reviews review
the quirk of an autozam, but the anemic heart of a 90s Toyota? this car is a perfect storm of weeb bait
Anemic? It makes almost double the power of an AZ-1.
@@Haloruler64 yeah but the weight of an autozam goes down by ten percent if you forget your keys and wallet that day. It could have the drive train of a rc car and still be fast
@@krpajda Right, it's almost 500 lbs lighter. I'm not saying the Sera is just as fast (although from Googling, the Sera might be sliiiiiiighty faster to 60, but both are above 10 seconds). I was just refuting the "anemic heart" statement. While potentially true, it's a silly statement when comparing to a 64PS AZ-1 engine./
Same motor my 05 Scion xB had... 1.5L 108hp. N that weighed 500lbs more n had the aeris dynamics of a "Toaster". So the sera cant possibly suck.
@@Grimm-Gaming Different motor, the old A and E series died in the 90s in the US. Yours was at least modern and had an aluminum block. 1NZ-FE, three gens newer. E was replaced by A, then by ZZ, then by NZ basically.
5:19 The AZ waifu makes a cameo appearance.
I've always loved these things. I'll import my own in the next 5 years hopefully. It's the perfect work
/daily for me.
Great review too. And so true about the conversations 😢
I had to stop watching 7 minutes in. You're just too funny it hurts. I love the car. Thanks.
Mmmm nah still want an autozam
Or a Honda City Turbo
Or a Kei Truck
Don't want a daily driver import, I'd buy a skyline if I did
One of the absolute best parts about owning my Skyline is the conversations I've had because of it. I've met many very nice, genuine people that just get stoked seeing one, because they figured they never would outside of Need for Speed or Fast and Furious. The conversation piece bit at the end is incredibly accurate. I drive the car for myself, sure. But I also drive the car for others to enjoy.
You just found another Toyota I actually want now.... this is awesome!!
