@@therealkat1342 Although my degrees of familiarity of the different artists vary, of the ones that I'm familiar 🤔 with, I'm familiar with much of David Bowie's work, although I'll have to check ✔️ out Ashes to Ashes, as I'm unfamiliar with that song and video. As for Visage, among others, I'm far less familiar with.
ALurkingGrue It's also pretty funny watching this when you know pop culture since about 2012 has been copying off early 80s fashions (except those rainbow sweaters).
So many of the pretentious musical videos on youtube circa 80's & 90's end up with folks contemplating this comedy sketch. Puts it all into perspective, if of cause this was a part of their life all those years ago. Just shows some comedy sketches can have a lasting effect on our lives and the world. They refine our characters, would be an indication of what we are like, for top level job recruitment, should be a question that they ask. Maybe their top 5 for the sake of time asked straight at the start. That would really put them on the spot and off-kilter. This one would be up there in the top 50 comedy sketches, maybe for a bit of variety, as most are not musically based, even in the top 20. In this instance the laughter track to me doesn't diminish the overall effect, the piece itself is far too compelling. PS I would also put the Richard Madeley 'Ali G' skit in the top 20 as well. Baron Cohen never recovered from that, one of the biggest prats on the TV made Cohen look an even bigger prat. A bit like much of Mike Leigh's 1977 'Alison's Party' condensed into 5 mins or so of Madelay's piece. The cringeworthyness of it is comparable. Alison's Party itself as long as it is, is amongst other things to many people also a comedy sketch, a long one, a big long comedy sketch. So maybe that also could be considered to be in the top 20, it would be for some. PS, just remembered it is 'Abigail's Party', such is the robust portrayal of Beverly played by Alison Steadman, wondered where the Alison came from, she takes over the show, even the title of it in some folks minds, strange phenomena that is.

It's not a shame about the song because it's quite good.

Apparently, Ashes to Ashes and Fade to Grey are the main inspirations for this clip.
Are they parodying the edgy bands of the 80s?
@@therealkat1342 the new romantics scene was pretty much a joke in early 80s UK.

@@MichaelHartman-qt4mp David Bowie isn’t edgy, he’s just who he is. They weren’t parodying him were they?
Finally, the full, unbutchered version of this video!
Now without laugh track: ua-cam.com/video/OoXSrPl38Po/v-deo.html
The laughter track makes it funny
RIP Mel Smith
this song is brilliant :)
Chris Walton
Not as good as the video, though
@@nicolaloverre4524 Nice Song. Shame about the video.
Take away the canned laughter and this could probably have been a hit! An open parody of Bowie's Ashes To Ashes video. ;-)
And elements of Kate Bush's Breathing
There's bits of Feels Like Heaven in here too.
Applemask The funny thing is that the song came out in mid-82. This aired on January or February of that year.
The song also parodied "Fade to Grey"
Unfortunately they talk over the beginning version that was on the Album.

Filmed at Rhinefield House in Hampshire.
This skewered the New Romantics so accurately. Plus, perhaps ironically the song is quite good. 😀
....but not as good as the video
Shades of Love Plus One by Haircut 100.
The video is truly stunning and somewhat ironically the song is really good.

The video it's most like is Is It A Dream by Classix Nouveau
😃
They should have released this.
And the tail has been wagging the dog ever since.
A send up of many 80's songs and their videos; either the song was complete crap or the video was. Genius idea
Better than a lot of the 80s songs, mel smiith was a very funny man
Nice 3-door Range Rover there Griff!
How freaking hot is Pamela Stephenson in this?
It's that black uniform...
And Billy Connolly became Britain's luckiest comic when he pulled her..Still happily together after all these years.

Several pieces of this video were copied to Yazoo "Don`t Go" video including Land Rover at the beginning.
Who killed LR?
This was an era when comedians couldn't resist dressing up as Nazis.
As opposed to this era where if a comedian is slightly right of Karl Marx, they are labeled Nazi.
Whereas now nazis masquerade as comedians
Because they were not neo Nazis
Maria Antoinette sounds like Lene Lovich.
Their parodies were better than the real things!
I wonder where it was filmed?
Probably griffs back garden
Rhinefield House
Actually, the songs quite good.
