Do you think Octopath Traveler suffered an issue due to the RAM configuration, or was the emulator just struggling? Would it run better on Ryujinx? I just placed my order for the Odin 2 Max. I just can't find any reviews other than the Pro version.
? Ryujix does not exist on Android Yuzu for android is still very new. Personally I don't think 16GB is needed but it can't hurt. 12GB should be the minimum & enough for many games. I think ill just get the base model with 8gb of ram, Thank you for showing the memory usage, that was my only question. Seeing as most games are using 5 - 6 GB of ram
Its worth noting that some of these games run fine on the normal deivers as opposed to the turnip drivers. Its definitely been worth a try for any game that i had issues with.
Quick question: since you did tried the xenoblade chronicles DE did you tried the 2nd and the 3rd game as well? I know it might be too much but eh? Nice vid as usual btw! Keep it up!!
Great video, wish you could have included Skyrim as well, but you did have a pretty good selection of games. I was on the fence about ordering one of these but i finally did and your content helped me make the decision. It would be nice to aee better switch emulation though. I do like alot of wii/gc games on dolphin I can't play on my RP3+, and i would like a device better at syeam link and xbox streaming. Would be interested to see if a linux build comes out for this as well. That would open up wiiU emulation which migh work better than switch on this device
So everything besides newer AAA games like tears of the kingdom and scarlet and violet utilize under 8 gigs of ram... Kinda glad with my 8gb model purchase now
Hey Joey, do you think NCE and or other OTA updates made performance better for some of the struggling games? More specifically Fire Emblem? curious if you tried it recently.
Hey, I'm honestly not sure, Switch emulation isn't typically my thing. I do know the AYN Discord emulation channel has a lot of information on that, so many people testing games that you can check!
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds oh no issues. I'll just try it on my own when the time comes. Only asked because I thought maybe you play it regularly. Thanks anyways!
I got Kirby and the Forgotten Land to work after getting the white screen. I used a different nsp rom and I used the latest GPU driver that is compatible with snapdragon 8 gen 2 from the github page. It runs, but it is very choppy in the beginning when all of the shaders are loading.
Snapdragon 8Gen2 tops out at something ridiculous like 3.5tflops (usually capped for saving battery) which is twice as powerful as the steam deck, it's just limited to Android apps.
You mentioned you used mods with some of these switch games on yuzu, could you please teach us how because almost all tutorials ive seen for mods with yuzu are for the pc software and not for the yuzu app for android handhelds
How long can you play performance demanding games like BOTW? Emulating a game is more power consuming than playing a properly ported game but 8000mah is also a lot
Can you test if the Switch port of Dark Souls 1 or Skyrim work? I've played and bought these two games on several consoles over the years, and would love to be able to play them on the Odin 2 switch emulation!
The pro is on sale for just $199 right now, but it's pretty much priced the same as Switch Lite in my country. Factor in shipping and customs it's the same as Animal Crossing bundle. As much as I love emulation, I just want a plug and play for now. Too bad Yuzu got shut down. It was so promising!
Nice to see that the Odin 2 can run so many Switch games. Buy now, it’s not so big of a deal for me, because emulation don’t make big steps for switch and I don’t see any advantage not using my switch. No savestates, no cheat codes and I don’t trust my Odin 2 to wake up with the Switch game when putting it to sleep. So better playing it on Switch OLED right now and knowing, I can finish it.
what about wow awesome video, thank you very much, wonder if you plan to review performance of games such as: trinity trigger, tales of symphonia, skelethrone : chronicles of ericone, darksider genesis, dragons dogma , dying light, diablo 3
SO glad i opted out for the Rog Ally over this. Was so close to getting the Odin. Rog Ally plays all these with ease, even Mario Tennis Aces. Odin 2 is still an amazing device.
ROG Allly plays these games with ease because it can work with an emulator that is pretty mature at this point, while this device here has to use an app that was released some months ago.
While I didn't plan to play many Switch games this does worry me a little one the ones I do want to play. I also have trouble understanding things so I can't tell if this is a "I should by the max not the pro ver" issue, a "Just play this on an actual Switch or.the Steamdeck cause it's not working on here" issue or just "The emulator needs more work" issue. Either way this helped me understand a little some of the games I wanted to play.(Animal Crossing, Kirby games, Dragon Quest Builder 2) Also I'm pretty sure the Switch version of The World Ends with You is a half assed tablet port cause they did make a tablet port with new stuff that wasn't in the original DS game.(Mostly Coco from what I know)

There is no comparison, I have a onexfly to play AAA games and some emulation, but I ordered this for the portability factor. You will have much higher performance on a handheld pc
I was contemplating buying an OLED switch but now I'm wondering if I should get this instead. I would be using it almost exclusively for switch Emulation, was wondering in your opinion what would be a better investment. I realize this can run some switch games at above the switch's refresh rate, but on the other hand may have performance and compatibility issues with other games. Then again a switch can be hacked to have higher fps but has lower battery life. Thought choice
@@japjungho4645 Thanks. The only reasons I'd consider the Odin is because I assume switch emulators will be better optimized in the near future and some games already run at better fps than on a switch. Also the battery life on the Odin seems like a huge upgrade. I tried a demo unit switch recently and the thumbsticks were honestly horrible and cheap feeling
I get pretty consistent crashing in Persona 5 during long (1 hour) sessions. I just save often but it's still frustrating. I use an Odin 2 pro, the latest Turnip driver and I'm on the Yuzu premium, deluxe, super cutting-edge version of the app.
@@JoeysRetroHandheldsthank you so much 🙏 You wouldn’t happen to know how I can get Mario Kart working on Odin 2. Can’t get past the mii screen there’s no mii’s so can’t proceed 😕
That's depends on the driver, different games needs different drivers and even different emulators. I tested more than 20 drivers in Outlast and CoJ: Gunslinger with Yuzu and Skyline (Edge too), unfortunately EGG NS doesn't support custom drives. Actually i was about to test every single driver from GitHub but after 20 and something i said hell nah and just quit, cause every test took like 3-5 minutes.
Hi. You mentioned locking the GPU/CPU at max, does this feature work the same as diablo mode on Redmagic phones where it's a hard lock? Or does it still throttle? Also, how is heat generation when doing this on switch emulators? Because my Redmagic phones reach up to 46C with a peltier cooler attached if I lock the clocks. Also, do you find the Odin 2 outperforms a Redmagic 8 with cooler attached for switch emulation? I realize it's the same chip but it's a question of heat management and GPU clock management
Great video. RAM is not the factor for the game performance for 20 years. Even when the RAM is close to 99%, OS doing their magic to compensate that when there is "single" tasking situation, like gaming. But again, amazing video.
How many hours of battery do you get during switch emulation? Apologies if you've answered this before but youtube comments dont have search functionality.

Thanks for mentioning ram. It's worrying me for 8gb user. I really really hope it won't bite me in the foot for choosing this model.
It helps so much that you point this out for people like us.
AFAIK only the tears of the kingdom requires more than 8gb of RAM and that's maybe also a question of optimisation, so you should be fine with 8 gigs.
@@TheRootko if ever need, although as stated 8gb should be enough.... i think there was an OTA update where you can add 4gb VRam..
The Max version has 16gb
Thank you for this awesome showcase 👏😃
I like your honest feedback. Much better compared to bigger channels. I will subscribe.
Excellent showcase, thanks Joey
What makes odin a supreme emulation device is the excellent thermal management.
already have a steam deck so it can play even more switch games, but it's really cool seeing what this little thing can do. If I wasn't so into handheld pcs, I would definitely cop this thing for some retro games
Same here, I really think ayn odin 2 is an amazing device, it's living rent free in my head for the past month. but it's hard to convince myself buying it when I already have steamdeck and other handheld gadgets that I never use because of steamdeck.
Damn, you really cast a wide net, thank you so much for this video!
Dang the temperatures is hovering within 79 to 81c and that's damn hot 😱
Not bad for this, you don't feel it.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds it's good that it's not hot so the cooling system is working as intended.
It still makes me wonder if this is viable for long-term though (can we play it on the daily for hours at such temperature even if there's cooling without causing the device to die out?)
Hello, thank your for your video. Did you used a 8 Gb, 12 Gb or 16 Gb device for your tests ?
He says it 12GB at the beginning
Do you think Octopath Traveler suffered an issue due to the RAM configuration, or was the emulator just struggling? Would it run better on Ryujinx? I just placed my order for the Odin 2 Max. I just can't find any reviews other than the Pro version.
? Ryujix does not exist on Android
Yuzu for android is still very new. Personally I don't think 16GB is needed but it can't hurt. 12GB should be the minimum & enough for many games. I personlly use s23 Ultra with 12GB of Ram.
My recommendation? Either play it on Switch, Yuzu on PC, or on Steam. I own the physical Switch game & on Steam.
Will there be a difference in switch performance between the 12gb ram model and 16gb ram model?
Nope. Only TotK comes close to 8GB. So once optimisation is fixed, all 3 machines should run Switch fine.
Have you tried skyline emulator at all? Also could you do the same for other console such as PS2 and GameCube please? :)
I think ill just get the base model with 8gb of ram, Thank you for showing the memory usage, that was my only question. Seeing as most games are using 5 - 6 GB of ram
Let's go more Ayn Odin 2 content!
Its worth noting that some of these games run fine on the normal deivers as opposed to the turnip drivers. Its definitely been worth a try for any game that i had issues with.
Just curious if anything has changed in 8 months now with more mature versions of Yuzu.
Great video,
All those games tested on docked mode or hand-held mode ?(handheld mode might give better performance cuz it lock thes games on 30 fps)
I'm assuming Handheld Mode.
MVP over here
Quick question: since you did tried the xenoblade chronicles DE did you tried the 2nd and the 3rd game as well? I know it might be too much but eh? Nice vid as usual btw! Keep it up!!
I did not, sorry.
I played Skyrim on the Odin 2 and outside of some lighting issues indoor it ran great, I didn't try skyline so maybe those light issues aren't there.
thanks a lot joey.... I assume the games crashing is more a YUZU issue, right?
Yep
It runs, but it is very choppy in the beginning when all of the shaders are loading.
thank you been looking video like this
So this is before the big nce update? I wonder how it is now
So pumped for this!
Hey thanks for the review I was wondering if you could framelock to 30-40 fps?
Could you try Winulator on the Odin 2?
Oh yes, please!
Have you tested Crash Bandicoot 4? Great vid by the way
Which version do you recommend? The base or Pro and would you consider the max overkill. I will be playing Switch, Wii and PS2 mostly.
I recommend the Pro. Max is overkill.
It’s the Emulator and it’s current state of development, it’s not the device itself. It’s more than powerful enough to play these games.
what about wow awesome video, thank you very much, wonder if you plan to review performance of games such as: trinity trigger, tales of symphonia, skelethrone : chronicles of ericone, darksider genesis, dragons dogma , dying light, diablo 3
Is the temperature during the Fire Emblem Engage accurate? 78°c for an ARM chip is quite high.
Either way this helped me understand a little some of the games I wanted to play.(Animal Crossing, Kirby games, Dragon Quest Builder 2) Also I'm pretty sure the Switch version of The World Ends with You is a half assed tablet port cause they did make a tablet port with new stuff that wasn't in the original DS game.(Mostly Coco from what I know)
Did you test the Bluetooth wireless controller rumble feedback
If there was an emulator for PS3 on Android, the games would work well
What yuzu keys/ firmware and driver you recommend atm?
Is the vertical while line on the right (to bring up the menu) always visible in-game?
You can turn off the slide out menu, and remove that white line. But then you lose out the popout panel.
You can turn it off and on in seconds via the Android slide menu.
What about Cruis'n Blast/Fast RMX/Hot Wheels Unleashed?
How does Final Fantasy run? I'm really curious to know how Final Fantasy on the switch emulator runs.
Joey putting in work again!
Will the max version play zelda totk better or is it a cpu thing?
It's an emulator thing.
I just want to play the Atelier Ryza games....with how many games shown here play well i'm assuming Ryza would play fine too
great video!
Hey pokemon switch games seem to have some issues
But are all the Pokémon games from GBC to 3DS FULLY PLAYABLE in the Odin 2 pro??
Yes.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds REALLY?? No stutters or dips or crashes?
If it’s so, I really want to buy an Odin 2 because my GOAL is to PLAY ALL POKEMON GAMES FROM GBC TO SWITCH ( if switch have some issues, then atleast form GBC to 3DS)
might i ask where you got the roms for these games
Why play dead cells through switch emulation when it's native on Android?
RDR can definitely run on this chip using other emulators.
No Fast RMX? That game pushed the Switch to its limits on day 1
All of these are handheld mode right? Seems like docked mode is out of the question based on the performance here.
Yep handheld.
Please do this for lenovo legion go, i am torn between these two
Sorry, don't have one coming.
There is no comparison, I have a onexfly to play AAA games and some emulation, but I ordered this for the portability factor. You will have much higher performance on a handheld pc
Is it in docked mode (1080p) or handheld (720p) ?
I was contemplating buying an OLED switch but now I'm wondering if I should get this instead. I would be using it almost exclusively for switch Emulation, was wondering in your opinion what would be a better investment. I realize this can run some switch games at above the switch's refresh rate, but on the other hand may have performance and compatibility issues with other games. Then again a switch can be hacked to have higher fps but has lower battery life. Thought choice
since it's going to be exclusively for Switch, then it's a no-brainer to buy a Switch. I personally will get Odin2, since I prefer PS2 and GC games.
@@Statistic189 Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'll wait a bit to see what the state of Switch emulation will be like in a few months
Better buying modded switch if you mainly play switch games, for any other else it's this ayn odin 2 pro.
You should absolutely get this instead - it pays for itself in money saved from software purchases alone
I get pretty consistent crashing in Persona 5 during long (1 hour) sessions. I just save often but it's still frustrating. I use an Odin 2 pro, the latest Turnip driver and I'm on the Yuzu premium, deluxe, super cutting-edge version of the app.
hey joey! is this the base model?
Hell no 😂😂😂😂
Can you show me how you did the Links awakening mod? or point me to where I can learn. I can't figure it out or find any guides

@@JoeysRetroHandheldsthank you so much 🙏
You wouldn’t happen to know how I can get Mario Kart working on Odin 2. Can’t get past the mii screen there’s no mii’s so can’t proceed 😕
Sounds like you didn't install the firmware or prod keys or both, cant skip them.
How are fingerprints on the black version?
Was wondering this myself, I'm stuck between the black and the clear blue and that was something on my checklist
Please can you do a similar video with PS2 games?
Every PS2 game is playable at 4K.
Even Champions of Norrath is playable (though probably not at 4K), which is a notoriously hard game to emulate, even on PC.
it’s insane how games like kingdom battle immediately crash and smo seems (somewhat) playable, I’m pretty sure it’s a problem with the emulator
Yes it is. Switch emulation is early still.
theres any chance of tears of the kingdon will run better in the future with uptades of yuzu?
That's depends on the driver, different games needs different drivers and even different emulators. I tested more than 20 drivers in Outlast and CoJ: Gunslinger with Yuzu and Skyline (Edge too), unfortunately EGG NS doesn't support custom drives.
Actually i was about to test every single driver from GitHub but after 20 and something i said hell nah and just quit, cause every test took like 3-5 minutes.
When I mod out the blur for Link's awakening, the graphical bugs/artifacts remain even though the blur is gone.
I realize it's the same chip but it's a question of heat management and GPU clock management
how does mario wonder run ?
By pushing play.
😂
Great video. RAM is not the factor for the game performance for 20 years. Even when the RAM is close to 99%, OS doing their magic to compensate that when there is "single" tasking situation, like gaming. But again, amazing video.
How many hours of battery do you get during switch emulation?
Apologies if you've answered this before but youtube comments dont have search functionality.
I've heard 3.5 hrs
Please do a separate video to check the performance of Switch FPS games and twin stick shooters !!! (stuff like Doom 2016 Eternal and Wolfenstein Colossus and the Crysis triology) UPVOTE SO JOEY CAN SEE THIS !
But can it play Crysis? Im jking, thank you for the video!! Have a great weekend
How does yoshis woolly world run?
Is this Odin 2 base model?
Hi, hope some could help me. I tried running animal crossing on both yuzu and skyline edge but I am no able to play the game. On yuzu, I only see black and blue screen. On skyline edge 69, the game will lag halfway through the intro
