Having been in the military I know that the soldiers stationed on that space station would not respect that Captain without a lot more context

@jonnypena7651 the issue being you don't really get to see why. You could make equally good cases for the captain being Glory hungry or crazy.
@@alexfranz817 My guess is that the few who actually gave a damn realized he was genuinely trying to improve things around the station, for every disciplinary handed out, recreational hubs that hadn't worked in decades were also brought back to life alongside weapons systems. For every ball turret given maintenance and a bit of TLC, so too were old PA systems restored with a little benefit on the side to play music for the crew outside of an emergency.
Little things like that. He'll condemn your failures, but reward success. Thus, certain detachments would begin working harder to achieve those small victories, and morale would hinge on everyone pitching in together because if you don't get this done, none of us get our 'shore leave' (which is in this case whatever scifi recreational center they've got with it's VR centers and long-distance communication equipment for friends and loved ones to keep in contact).
The lazier elements of the E4 mafia would hate him, but the more cunning would realize that playing to his demands will give them more power :)

@@alexfranz817 That is an absolutely valid and fair point that I didn't consider. You can likely tell I do a lot of writing for my own projects and ones involving friends, which lends my mind to naturally fill in the blanks with these sorts of things.. It is definitely a missed opportunity for world building on the author's part.

Based on a section by Captain Ussyles, The area around Bastion was a 3 generational battleground.

If it was the site of two of the enemies greatest defeats, I have a hard time beleaving that it would go neglected for so long.
You misunderstand Bastion's purpose.
It is there, neglected, precisely to invite an attack and remind the Na-Zha-Vek that even in such a bad condition, it is more than capable of stopping them.

Nature of military budgets. Bastion was a backwater on the border, so probably had no direct representation of a politician whose constituents were relying on jobs at that station, so got no money for upgrades. Humanity had been at peace with those aliens for over 10 years, and probably had other hot spots to worry about, to military spending was directed to other things. Political winds are just that fickle. I personally have seen the military shut down two bases they either just built or upgraded because the politicians wanted something else. So I can see even a famous base getting neglected when no politician had any reason related to getting re-elected connected to it.
Tbf 20y year old tech is not really that outdated by modern standards when referring to military gear, considering we still use alot of things made during the cold war, or earlier, it's really a matter of if its maintained
@@capt.squiggly6354 That's assuming a time like we have now. However, there have been times in our own history were a 20 year gap made a huge difference in capabilities. And not all of our current cold war era gear would actually stand up to more modern stuff. An F-15 is a cold war era fighter that is still very effective around the world. But our own pilots tell us that an F-22 would absolutely destroy any F-15, even if the F-15 were brand new, without much effort. And both of those would be using much the same weapons.
The multiverse will die before bastion station falls
A new Bastion Station was rebuilt around the old one, kept as a museum. However, there were tunnels and ports in the new Bastion Station to allow the old Bastion Station to fire, because the old station was still manned and as operational as it could be and would fire anyway.

I'd like to suggest tuning microphone setup, floor noise could be improved, maybe higher sampling, maybe microphone closer for higher signal to background difference, or shoddy cables

@@GAMEFREAK330 we get abnormally warmed by the gulf stream, so even through were on the same latitude as Newfoundland our climate is very mile compared, its rains a lot but its green and fresh most of the time.

This had some _Sabbat Worlds_ anthologies' kind of turns and silent, sneaking weight of narrative.
Age is not a bad thing just ask the good old B-52 STRATOFORTRESS... If the past is an indication of the future, BASTION station would be well served with a wing of upgraded B-52's for defensive and offensive operations..... Like grandfather, like son, like grandson that served with and for BASTION station, just as the B-52 stratofortress's has had grandfather's, fathers and grandsons serving and the way it's going we're going to have great grandsons and great granddaughters flying that old warbird into the future, that we know nothing about but yet we go forth knowing that the past is as important as the present, and as important as the future....

Bastion gets converted/armed to best of human ability, then politicians decide that job is finished and spend all the money on other stuff for decades, Bastion then gets attacked, followed by expensive rebuild then politicians decide that job is finished and spend money on other stuff for decades...just keep repeating, its how we seem to 'plan' for a lot of contingencies tbh.
Perhaps you should tell that to the defenders of corregidor or Singapore in 1942.

@@jonnypena7651 did i say that somewhere? No. Then why do you keep pointing that out. As a reader he can choose to read out stories with correct sentences and not read stories with wrong sentences.
@@user-qf1ox7vl9q It's still a good story worth reading. And the narrator should not change the wording even to correct grammar. Just like a translator shouldnt choose words that change the tone of a scene.
