Walter Clapp No that’s not right because sideshow started in 1997 then footloose started in 1998 then susical started in 2000 so they can’t be in the same theater

I think the point of Seussical isn’t how much flash or razzle dazzle you give a production. It’s core and heart is the story. Everything else should be just enough to lead the audience to using their imaginations to make it bigger than it could ever possibly be.
The writing of this show is absolutely stunning and it has an interesting reputation now for a number of reasons, but this production on Broadway was so incredible. Wish they showed some more of the company numbers. Biggest Blame Fool in this production is killer, as is Chasing the Who's and Havin a Hunch. It's just such an underrated show but I promise, take one look at that score, and it is anything but simple. Some really tight and intricate harmonies and beautifully complex orchestrations. I could go on and on about how much I respect this show 😍
Dean Tyler Klebonas it’s a better score than most people give it credit for (and a more difficult score than most high school drama teachers realize). But damn the staging/costumes/sets are rough. I’d like to see what someone with a good vision could bring to this show.
i remember when seussical closed for me! i was a bird girl, and it was the first musical i was ever in. the cast party had lots of tears, but it was a great memory and experience. good luck with the post show depression!
Aww, my show closed last March and I still suddenly look around whenever I hear one of the songs, or that iconic little tune at the very beginning when Jojo discovers the hat 😭
This was my first musical ever to perform in my community theatre and we were really lucky and Kevin Chamberlain, the original Horton, actually came to our small town and did a work shop during tech week. It was so cool to have a person you grew up with on TV just chilling at your theatre you call home. I’ll never forget that; it was purty neat. Also, our Horton still stays in touch with Kevin Chamberlain too via social media
This was one of my first musical obsessions. I’ve listened to the cast album a million times. After knowing the songs so well for so long, it’s kind of weird to see them staged
That tea I agree it’s a good show but when you’re in it ( i was sour kangaroo and Gertrude and Maize’s understudy) it kind of gets old after a while because you know the same things happen at the same time there are really a lot of plot twist so yeah I think it does deserve a revival
U just think they should do a revival period. This is SUCH an underrated musical and now broadway is only doing very popular musicals instead of trying to bring the old but good ones back
@@semosayba i say focus more on jojo and horton as parallels rather than focus on the romance. its better for the kids going to see this show to know that its okay to be different, creative, and an oddball in their community than to see another generic romance in my opinion!!!
I was gertude in my production of seussical when I was in 6th grade. The year before I could not present in class but oop there was my director throwing me up into the (literal) spotlight. Honestly this show high-key changed my life so thanks for making me cry
To everyone saying the sets looked cheap and everything, those clips are from a tryout or preview, it has just moved to Broadway. It wasn't open yet. There were still some constructions and set building happening.
Hear me out: Steampunk esq revival (a la Greatest Showman), with orchestra spread out onstage in the set, with a set that spins as did the set for Act One, really intricate production- no projections. And a muted color palette except when Jojo or cat physically touches something.
Gabrielle Porter Me too! I love Seussical. Here is some of my dream cast for Seussical Revival (my opinion) - Christian Borle: Cat In The Hat - Jennifer Holliday: Sour Kangaroo - Liz Gillies or Taylor Louderman: Mayzie Labird - Daniel Huttlestone: Jojo - Delaney Moro or Allie Trimm: Gertrude McFuzz - Jodie Benson: Mrs. Mayor
I've been in half a dozen amateur musical productions in my home town and Seussical (where I played the Mayor of Whoville) was especially memorable. What a fantastic story!
Well because the whole basis of the show is Jojos imagination, they leave alot up to the audience to imagine. With this show less is more. Thats what makes Seussical, Seussical
This gives me extreme broadway vibes, as much as a love many of the newer musicals, I just feel like not much effort is put into the stage presence anymore...
I did this show about 8 years ago ago as the Baby Kangaroo and again 6 years ago as Jojo. I so badly wanna do it a third time(either as jojo again or gertrude) because this show holds a very special place in my heart
This is the first show I’m going to be in , I’m playing Jojo and I’m really excited :) But I’m so conflicted between school and this play and its causin my grades to go doWnnn
Years ago I bought the CD for this show, because it looked interesting. I simply could not get into it. That video was the first time I saw anything of the actual production. Feeling slightly less guilty for not appreciating the music.
I'm in a production of Seussical, and we open in 3 weeks. I was originally casted as a Bird Girl. But our Gertrude dropped out. So now I'm Gertrude. Gosh im so screwed
I would like to do this musical. There are a few problems 1. I have never been in a musical and only have listened to 3 full soundtracks 2. The cat in the hat is traditionally male I guess 3. I’m slightly too old to be Jojo 4. I don’t have the energy of Mayzie or the Sour Kangaroo 5. I’m not a soprano, so I probably couldn’t be Gertrude 6. I wouldn’t be cast as a lead because I’m not popular and I would be nervous and forget my lines and how do auditions work? That last one is a legit question how do auditions work?
Depends on the setting are you in highschool or Broadway? When I audition for a highschool musical normally I sing a song of my choice, read lines and learn and extract of a choreography to present to the audition panel (lasts about ten minutes). For the recent audition for a professional theatre I did I sung a song of my choosing, danced and acted with other people and a script, this audition was two hours.
this is scary. i just auditioned for this almost forgotten show at our school and i check my recommended and i see this and i’m ok with it i watch it and then i check the date and now i’m kinda scared. i see you broadway.com
why do I feel like if I paid 50$ for a ticket to this show in 2001 I would be disappointed... there's not much to the show besides the actors and the book.
Great music and performances from all the actors and actresses, but it looks so... Depressing. The set looks so dreary, and the space seems so empty. For something based on the magic of Dr. Suess, only the aforementioned music and performances capture that. I would love to see this have a revival, I think it’d give it the love it deserves.
The set and costumes are like that because the audience is supposed to use their imagination and THINK of what the characters would look like because everyone invasions different things
I'm sad at the fact that most of the high school productions have very low energy. there were only a couple shows i thought had this amount of energy (they weren't even full hs shows they were just clips too) u-u
I feel the biggest problem here is the production design. Dr. Seuss is known for his eccentric and fanciful illustrations. People expect to see those when they go into something with Dr. Seuss' name on it. Instead, we have these minimalistic costumes and sets. Putting a fat guy in a grey shirt doesn't automatically make him look like an elephant (I feel Horton probably should've been more along the lines of Pumbaa in the "Lion King" show), the jungle doesn't look like a jungle at all, the lighting is too dark, and... really, those are supposed to be monkeys and a kangaroo? And I'm sure somebody's gonna go "Oh, you're just not using your IMAGINATION!", but "you just have to use your imagination" isn't an excuse to be this minimalistic when you're working with DR. SEUSS. I can't help but wonder if maybe this is another indication that maybe Dr. Seuss' work just doesn't translate well to live action. Great cast, if nothing else - everyone's clearly enthusiastic about what they're doing and fit the characters well (with the exception of the Sour Kangaroo, I'm sure turning her into a stereotypical sassy black woman sounded like a good idea on paper but eh...).
this is the same theatre as hamilton idk why that’s the funniest shit to me

Amy Park my middle school had better sets!!
I know!!! My school's costumes are literally eyesores and the set looks like a tie-dye playground!
