@@raesummer3159 Hiya! It has been a while but I will try to name them all. Rent, Les Miz, Lion King, Phantom, Jane Eyre, Seussical, Flower drum song, and Urinetown. Ha! Remembered them all! It was an amazing trip. My husband is a trooper! Lol
I just done seussical today with my musical theatre camp and we had such a wonderful time performing! I was sour kangaroo and everyone did an amazing job and after we did our bows, we threw a mini party cheering and happy that we did it! I miss performing it already!
I’m currently doing Seussical as well for a theater camp but the junior version. I got a Jungle Citizen, Fish, and Courtroom attendant. I had to dance in a lot of songs but I’m enjoying it.
It's so bizarre to see how much less imaginative this whole thing looks than any regional or school production I've seen. If this had a similarly cohesive visual direction to the Spongebob musical (e.g. making everything look handmade, immersing the adult audience into a child's imagination) I feel like critics would have been nicer to it.
I would love a return to this musical with the original cast and a better production. The Spongebob Musical is a wonderful reference point on how they could’ve gone about this.
@Jonathan Pal oh no i completely agree. I don’t think they should use trash at all, I just mean that the amount of creativity seen in the Spongebob Musical should be seen as inspiration for props and set design. They have two different messages with the story- but the set design is creative and toony, which I believe that with more whimsy could inspire the set design for a hypothetical revival of Seussical
From what I’ve been told, the main flaw of this production was how overblown it was. This show was written for a more intimate space, but when it was brought to broadway, they felt obligated to make a big production out of it, when all that ended up happening was the actors were stuck swimming in this unnecessarily large space and trying to fill the emptiness. Same thing happened with the revival of you’re a good man charlie brown.
this is the first musical that I was obsessed with at a very young age after finding the cast album at my local library. It’ll always have a special place in my heart ✨

Thank you for this comment. "Seussical" was indeed shot with two cameras, and I chose to post footage from the "tight"/close-up camera, even if you lose the wider picture.
tonight was our last performance of seussical at my school and im getting so emotional watching these clips because this show was one of my favorite shows to do ever. i know it gets shit on a lot cause of its short lived broadway run and the costumes, but this show can be so much more than it was originally meant. its a beautiful show and brought me close to so many people :"))
aww my school did seussical last year🥺it was my favorite show ever:) i got a callback for jojo, but got young kangaroo but it’s probably one of my favorite roles
I think if they released this after some of the terrible movie adaptations it probably would have been more well received. Seeing how bad things can be really makes you appreciate the good things.
@@Dragonrider1227 no doubt. Also I think if they released this between The Cat in the Hat and the Horton movie, this would have been seen as the love letter to Seuss it was and Horton would have been seen as just another mediocre adaptation.
I was too young to see this on broadway. My grandmother took me to a local production and it is my favorite musical. I listen to the soundtrack all the time and just had the thought to find original footage on UA-cam. Did they forget to produce the show? Lol looks like people off the streets auditioning. Where is the goofy who clothes and funny looking trees and furniture in whoville? I’m so glad my first impression of this was the wonderful group at the Warner in Torrington CT
Hello I was young kangaroo in Seussical the musical obviously not the Broadway one but I know Little Theatre and it was a really fun experience and I really hope I get to do more Theatre when I’m older in my dream is to go on Broadway someday
If this musical gets a revival, I would like to see some of the costumes look better. First, I think some of the costumes are fine the way they are like Cat in the Hat, Maisie LaBird, Jojo, the bird girls and the Wickershams. The costumes I think need to be fixed are General Shmitz: He’s a general, not a mailman! The mayor, the mayor’s wife and the whos: the costumes are not bad, the colours of the costumes are, why is their main colour scheme beige, white and yellow? Give the costumes more colour! Horton: GIVE. HIM. EARS! Gertrude McFuzz: the hair and dress needs fixing. And finally, the sour kangaroo: ..................................................................................................………………………………................................................................................................................................................................................... YOU CALL THAT A KANGAROO!!!!????!?!?!?!
I was thinking how in the live action movies or even at universal Orlando the actors have unique nose pieces....How come this wasn’t a thing on stage here? I mean phantom and beauty and the beast were on for a bit at this point
Apparently the original costume designer had more book-accurate costumes, but the show's producers didn't want that. However, I feel that they went too far in the opposite direction with the costumes we got. I think they could've found a good balance between not being mascot-like but still looking more like the characters than this. The Sour Kangaroo in particular looks awful.
I really wish they would release these to the public. Not everyone can make it ti broadway and as a performer it woukd be great to have the entire thing for referwnce

I'm guessing this was the original production that flopped, but was soon reworked and rewritten slightly to send it straight to the top. I have the soundtrack of this version on CD and have just bought the second version's soundtrack. There is a difference that can be seen, but both share the same problem: none of them have a part in them for our own Daisy-Head, Mayzie McGrew.

Saw this production. I actually enjoyed it a lot. Also when Rosie O’Donnell as Cat in the Hat. I like her but she is not suitable to be in any singing role. Plus a kid Aaron Carter before he turned into a pathetic case.
Kevin Chamberlin is so wonderful in this musical. Thanks for posting!
I feel bad kinda. He’s such a major theater actor but the shows he stars in hardly get any respect.
I saw this production on my very first trip to NYC! I dragged my patient husband to 8 musicals in 5 days. The man is a saint. Lol

They definitely should have designed it to feel more homemade and intimate- lean into the Seussian aesthetic, y'know?

I agree. He's no Allan Sherman, but the folks who don't like him have to admit he's at least better as the Cat than Mike Myers!
