If you're curious how I was able to get close to the enemies without them attacking me, it's because I was an enemy myself. Elden Ring will support limited cross-platform play, so Meowmaritus summoned me as a red phantom on an Xbox One copy of the Network Test and I went around taking passive pictures of about as much as I could reach.
Awesome work. After watching this video, I can clearly see that the vibe of this game is very much different from any of the other Souls titles. The world feels so lively, which is a great change of pace from the dilapidated and decaying worlds of past Fromsoft games.
Thanks for always going the extra mile for footage! I don’t know where you get your video ideas but I’m always delighted by them. You’ve probably heard this more than a few times by now but your channel was so great to watch while waiting for news of this game, really kept the souls enthusiasm alive for me!
Dashing through the souls With a cart dragged by giant slaaaaves Over the planes we goooo "I hope their are cool caves" OH GOD SANTA NO! Oh DEAR GO OH WHY! THESE CRABS ARE FUCKING HUGE. MIAZAKI THAT'S NOT NIE- *dies*
I absolutely love that you can see little worms sprout up when the crabs are eating. Like someone thought to make that particle effect for the 1% of players who will actually look through the binoculars to check it out. There's so much love and care on display here
This is Fromsoft's dream game. Their Morrowind, their Breath of the Wild, their Warcraft.... they've wanted this since King's Field. This is their dream. You could see them dabble in it in Dark Souls, in Demon Souls... in Bloodborne's chalice dungeons. In Sekiro's combat. They've yearned for this.
The inclusion of wildlife really sets this game apart from the souls series. This world is ALIVE, young and thriving. The crisis of the ring will not end this world, just those that rule it.
I refute the idea that it won't end the world, just because the ant can't foresee nor comprehend the pesticide coming for it's hill doesn't change the outcome of the action. I believe the shattering of the ring is inevitably going to present the same conundrum of the soul series, return order at the cost of something or maintain the power of the ring yourself and try to use the destruction as the base of a new beginning for if a peace of the ring elevates you to demigod status then the ring as a whole would elevate you to Godhood but that's just not pre release guess of how the story will go.
Well now that we have knowledge of several endings, that's not necessarily true: at least two (technically three) of the endings fuck up the world into oblivion. You are right in saying that most don't, though.
@@jeeBisOkay Wait which is the third one? I know Dung Eater and Frenzied Flame turn the world into a hellhole, but the other ones are usually pretty alright aren't they? Or at least neutral at worst.
@@jeeBisOkay Oh right, I guess that's true. To be fair though, in the version where Melina survives, there's a pretty good chance she can take you down before you can destroy anything other than the Lands Between, so things might still work out in the rest of the world.
Okay can we talk about how the "Jellyfish" at 3:55 actually bend light (and therefore the image you see) at a different angle when you look through them? that is so cool.
"And here were see the Bunnies of Ahhh, calmly existing in their natural habitat. Though be warned, when an appropriate meal is spotted, their drive for sustenance is extreme."
"Ah, behold the majestic and hollowed knight. Bereft of their humanity, the now wonder listlessly through the shambles of their once grand home. Day in and day out, for many eons, they will complete the same tasks given to them in life, never so much as a thought beyond those needed to complete their long forgotten and now meaningless duty. But look! Here comes an unhollowed one! See its splendorous self awareness; it's magnificent freedom of will. It appears to be an outsider though - an unwanted interloper in these dark lands. With greed and malice, the hollowed knights observe their prey, striking out to shove it off the ledge to allow gravity to do their dirty work for them. Nature, ever beautiful and serene, but never the less heartless and cruel."
Its about damn time, I've been waiting for From to make a game that wasn't depressing to inhabit. This is such an incredible break from the dark and dreary vibe of DS1,2, and 3. I couldn't be more hyped!
I find it so interesting at 1:23 how they chose a dobsonfly to be the "giant enemy bug" out of any other flying insect. Usually most other games have giant mosquitoes, wasps, beetles or flies coming at you but elden ring is probably the first game ever to throw a literal megalopteran after you. I can't think of any other game (other than fishing simulators that use dobsonfly larvae as bait) that do this. Not only that, but the crystal lizards are seemingly replaced with those jewel dung beetles too which is really cool. I guess whoever they hired for concept art/enemy design this time around has a more than surface level interest in entomology.
Rain World also has these Noodlefly animals which seem to be inspired by that same insect, they're normally neutral mobs but will just slaughter you if their babies are attacked. Rain World has an amazing world in general, especially for a 2D platformer where the AI has to navigate through tight spaces and ridiculously interconnected rooms. You might want to check it out if you're interested in cool enemy design!
@@yanchukcha9748 I actually have that game and have been meaning to play it, but I'm so caught up with elden ring atm that I have to put it on my backlog for now. I look forward to playing it!
@@liamconnolly8758 Actually you might want to wait for the DLC that should come out this year, besides from the ridiculous amount of content there's going to be a lot of quality of life stuff to help make the game less hostile to new players. Sifting through 6 wiki pages of movement controls explaining optimal backflip timing is not fun for everyone, but overall, the game is amazing, it's just that it doesn't tell you much of the important stuff.
The first time I realised this was when I encountered the big headed ant monsters in Deeproot Depths. Big headed ants like that exist IRL, and some even evolve their heads to take the form of a "door" to block the entrance to their colony from invaders. The moment I got one of their heads as a shield I started geeking the heck out. This game is so cool!
Yeah, FromSoftware has always been good when it comes to making weird and unsettling enemies, even as far back as Shadow Tower. I really appreciate the weirdness, it has a more lasting impression that just plain old creepiness.
@@timelessdust3001 right? and the chaos eaters or pinwheel from dark souls 1, or those witchtree things from 2. i don't even know what the deal is with those.
ya they feel very, spirity, and not in the "oh its a man but made out of stone" kind of elemental spirit, it doesent feel like something that was designed to be fought in an rpg they feel like some rocks actually came alive
Prior to recording this footage, I hadn't realized the people in the dragon-burnt ruins were apparently praying to Agheel. Also, something about the flowers and the land octopus make me think of King;s Field. They're not really a close match for the similar enemies seen in those games, but it just feels like the spirit of them has been passed down.
Same! It's such a really neat touch! That and the temple on the island seems to indicate a worship of dragons, with the dragon spells also being faith incantations. it's so cool.
Interesting to note that we now have TWO annoying dog enemy types to watch out for-the fast, rabid type from Bloodborne/DS3, and the more cunning pack hunters from Sekiro. Also, I can't get over how the demihumans (the little goblin looking guys) deliberately hop across inequalities in the terrain, even when there's no need. It gives them so much character.
Honestly the ‘dogs’ in sekiro are more ‘out of nowhere’ then annoying, since at one moment your just doing whatever. Then the next “oh shit that’s a wolf!”
@@michaelmannix1604 Yeah while the wolves were a major part of the first dlc, Friede basically took the limelight. Not to mention the corvian crap. The wolves were pretty forgettable, despite the boss fights. Now if all those wolves were half as terrifying as the undead dogs...
I love how this game begins with a mix of classic dark souls "knight" enemies and some bizarre-gross bloodborne ones but as you explore the open world the game isn't afraid to present you with the more magical and fantasy like side of beasts, living in their own little corner of the world, the jellyfish and that one creepy statue boss were some highlights for me
Honestly, I rather enjoy the fairytale feel of many of the enemies and bosses. From the lesser erdtree guardians to the floating jellyfish and even the imps and demihumans, it doesn't feel like we're just rehashing Dark Souls and Bloodborne, it feels like it's own thing.
To rehash my other comment: "it really feels like something a monk who's never seen an ocean let alone an octopus would draw after having one described to him. A big blobby thing surrounded by tentacles and has a beak."
The “barnacles” in the swamp are some of my favorites. You can see all the bites and gashes in their flesh, which made me think they are a meal for the rest of the wildlife in Limgrave. They are so defenseless and slow moving that I could totally envision a crab or a wolf just running up and getting a bite to eat and then leaving lol. Also, the wolves look SO good in this game. I’m so used to seeing basic dog enemies in FS games as mangled, gnarled, rotten stinky puppers that I’m surprised they made them look so good, you can see that fearless look in their eyes when they’re laying around, especially the alpha.
That's one of the things I liked seeing when I watched some elden ring footage: because it's NOT a dark souls, things are actually ALIVE in this game, which is a breath of fresh air compared to previous FromSoft titles where death, undeath and rot were the main focus.
Yes! I was tired of that after DS1, I put up with that in DS2. But by 3, I couldn't stand it anymore. It felt like I hadn't seen anything original from From outside of Bloodborn. This 10min video has show me more new ideas than the past 2 games combined! I love it.
Idk if im the only one who secretly hopes the ending of the game reveals it was the painted world all along created with the dark soul, that would be so jaw dropping
@@Sadeness99 you're definitely not the only one. A lot of people want them to link this game to dark souls somehow since it would be the only confirmed game to actually be linked to the previous titles.
@@Sadeness99 you had me until the last sentence. Dark souls is over, and with gael fighting through all of time and 3 games, it had a great ending. I want souls like, which elden ring isn't, but dark souls is done.
I was looking and finding everything beautiful until the good old sick rat showed up and I legit cracked open a smile, it was like seeing an old friend again after a long time (he says, having played DS1 like last week). Made me think that maybe I don't mind the occasional reused model in this sense
Ds3 had the most varied bestiary out of any FS game before ER came out, so I don't really see how and why you would "especially" feel this way about Ds3. Especially given that many of these ennemies are straight up Ds3 ennemies repurposed into ER with a mere texture change (wolves, crabs, thralls and dogs, off the top of my head).
@Salmon_Toastie I didn't say there was anything wrong with that. I'm simply correcting his assumption that "most enemies in Ds3 were humanoids," which is a vague and false statement considering Ds3 has the most extensive bestiary out of any Fs game save for ER.
Honestly I don’t get the people saying “oh they reused assets they’re lazy!”. Yeah they used the Bloodborne chalice dungeon door opening animation. So what? It’s a well made animation, why would they spend valuable time remaking a door opening animation on objectively their biggest game to date?
They also reused entire enemies and basically half the game animations are stripped from dark souls 3. They claim to have made a new franchise but elden ring is closer to dark souls 3 than dark souls 2 was to 1.
@@dsaman123 most of the player animations are straight from DS3, they reused animations from old enemies on new models, and they copy and pasted these "new" enemies dozens of times
And to think that these are only a small portion of all the NPC's we'll end up seeing in the full game. Everything about this world is just so full of life, something we've never had in a Souls game. Elden Ring is gonna be huge.
A lot of open world games I've played since I first played a Souls game have left me thinking "this is just the same enemy as earlier but slightly tankier". I'm anticipating I won't have that problem with this game and I love it. My one worry will be recycled animations so those returning to the series don't feel like they're playing a reskinned enemy, but the general consensus so far seems to be great!
@@CoopsNME the only part of the game that will suffer from recycled animations is the pvp community, estus cancel is still a thing. but unless u somehow are able to get a larger stock of healing, it shouldnt be that much trouble, since u can still empty ur enemys flasks
@@Otgel Its not just "estus cancel". I was a happy man until yesterday when I came across JeeNiNe's videos. He was the only one who was actually using Network test for actual testing instead of just enjoying the PvE and exploration. I'm not a PvP player myself but we cannot ignore the fact that PvP makes up a huge part of Souls community. I just hope Fromsoft and Miyazaki actually look into all the glitches JeeNiNe discovered seriously and at least try their best to rectify them as much as possible before launch. I'd say take 1-2 months more if needed but please do not disappoint a noticeable part of your fans/community.
@@armaani11 it's just a network test. They're collecting feedback from players to fix those problems before release. @@Otgel Well the network test was to report glitches such as etsus cancelling so it's good we found out about it so early. They won't leave something like that in for the full game.
People who complain about supposed reused assets are the people who complain that the scimitar happens to look like a ds3 scimitar, despite the fact they're both scimitars.
"supposed reused assets" They reused enemy models from past games. They reused exact animations for both the player and multiple enemies. They reused ENTIRE ENEMIES, with the same attacks, models, and behavior. And not only did they rely on content from past souls games, they also reused content within the very same game over and over.
@@tristankendrick2582 I mean, it's there, they could use it and they did... while also adding a lot more animations too? Even then, like a lot of people have said, if it ain't broke, why fix it? And more importantly, WHY IS IT SO MUCH OF A PROBLEM? Oh no, there's water and... they reused crabs? OH SHOOT, what a tragedy. There are hollowed people roaming around and those miners have the same skeleton for how they move and animations from DS3? How dare you not make more? I mean, come on man. (And well, considering this game was actually in development on par with DS3 it's funny a lot of people complain about the reused assets. Comparing these two. Fantastic.)
@@lucyaravena507 it's not the new, unique masterpiece it's been marketed and received as, it's a recycled mess with a few new ideas and a couple good bosses. It was obviously rushed and overly ambitious. There was no reason this game needed to be open world, and it would be better if it had been a unique experience the genuinely expanded on the souls formula instead of just "make it big". It's extremely disappointing to see demons souls for the fifth time, and it only makes it that much more insulting when they constantly reuse assets.
I think the weirdest thing so far about Elden Ring is seeing From making normal looking animals ... thanks for all these close ups! Also, I finally figured out what those weird ball kraken beak things remind me of: they look like the egg eaters from Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. I wonder if From took any inspiration from that, or if those types of monsters appear in any other Japanese stories.
Some other nice details: there is one of those nomad traders who actually plays on their weird guitar thingy that they always carry. Then another time I came across a random rock with a bunch of those bats. One of them was bigger than others and sang some song in latin until I got too close. The other bats just chilled and listened to him. Little strange encounters like this make this world feel really alive.
In answer to the thumbnail: People want to find any excuse to shit on a game, franchise or developer they don't like. I honestly cannot understand how so many people think that the reuse of any assets is in any way a detriment to their enjoyment of a game. The same people who value graphics over gameplay, I guess. Also, "IT'S JUST MORE DARK SOULS!11!!" is an argument that comes up. It's not, but if it was, that wouldn't be a bad thing. More Souls is at least another fresh experience. These are also probably the people who buy the same CoD/Battlefield/Fifa every year.
Re-using assets is cheap and lazy, even more so when they are assets you've been recycling for the past games as well. It does diminish the value of the craft. Consider it like this: you read a very good book, with a metaphor you really like in it. Then a sequel comes out and you find the same metaphor in it. Okay, still good I guess, but less compelling and a bit odd. You read the third book and there it is. Again. You see what I'm trying to say? The experience gets old. I'd rather not ear the same death sound for the thousand time or see the exact same weapon or armor model. More Souls is a fresh experience? I disagree. Dark Souls 3 felt like a really bad dlc for Dark Souls. The first Dark Souls was a fresh experience. Bloodborne was as well. Sekiro too. Dark Souls 2 was different enough to feel less like the original one, but sure had it's own issues. Buying every From game without a critical eye about what they do makes you exactly like the "people who buy Cod/Fifa every year".
@@giulioceresini1435 I don't mean this to sound mean or accusing but do you not know that reusing assets is the standard in software development? Most of your favorite 3d games from the last 15 years or so were most definitely made reusing assets. If you tell a professional developer of any kind that reusing assets is "lazy" they'd think you're completely oblivious. And "lazy" implies what exactly? That they took a nap instead of working on new crab animations? Don't buy things unconditionally and never preorder i agree but assets are just tools and combining/tweaking them is how games are made. If the reused assets are enough to bother you that's of course your right to feel that way but i strongly disagree with asset reusing always being "lazy". Edit: changed punctuations, also sorry for the wall of text
@@giulioceresini1435 frankly, this is just another way to say you know nothing about game development or at the very least little. Most games and sequels are made with resused for a purpose. It saves time and money both critical to game development
Seeing crabs made me so happy idk why This is coming from someone who played mage in dark souls 3 and got stuck at the halfway fortress bonfire for months because of those damn crabs.
I consider re-used assets kinda like easter eggs sometimes. I really liked seeing the giant rats all the way from the first Dark Souls pop back up again in Elden Ring.
I think of it more as, how many ways can you draw a rat? Not that many, its a rat. Sure with crabs theres many different species they couldve used like even the terrifying Japanese spider crab. But the crabs are fine, i mean they work just fine so no complaints here.
Same, playing through the game I found a ruined house that was the same building on the cliff bonfire right at the start of the Undead Settlement, I got excited from that because I thought it was really cool to notice
@@vasilyd8578 Good point. It could be both then the texture is very smooth so it acts like a mirror. Then they use something like fresnel to control how the light is emitted.
I never understood all the complaints about reusing some assets, animations or sound effects. They already have them, so as long as they're still up to the expected standards, there's no need to spend time and money reinventing the wheel. That's just good business.
One of the most underrated things I'm loving about Elden ring, is that there's music for just roaming the open world. What they composed here is amazing, and it adds so much to the mystery of the world with such an eerie, but inviting first track!
@@eviljoel Most of the Souls games don’t have background music aside from boss fights. I can only think of a few areas in Bloodborne and DS1 that actually have music for the area and it’s not a boss fight. So to have it while wandering the world is a nice addition.
The game has this beautiful fantasy-ish artstyle that so many people have seemed to dismiss as just "Bad" graphics. This is the beauty of fromsoft games
Personally I’m really happy about the reused assets! The game feels like a spiritual Dark Souls 4 with Sekiro sneaking and climbing, Dark Souls 3 combat and Dark Souls 2 power stancing 😍 And who doesn’t love the Dark Souls 3 crabbo? 🦀 I’m ReAlLy FeElInG iT nOw Mr KrAbS
I said the same thing! It’s a culmination of all their prior work into one game, and boy did it deliver. Although I can’t help myself when it comes to modding I fucking loved the zullie witch set and the Alva knight set.
You know, I've always felt that the dark souls trilogy was a series that dealt very heavily in the theme of entropy death. All three are about a world that is decaying, a world that will soon fall dead silent as every last living thing clings to what little life it has left. They explore the beauty and tragedy of this concept, through mesmerizing sound, graphic, and story design. Watching Elden ring feels weird. Previous fromsoftware titles demonstrate the inherent horror of fighting against the inevitability of death. (Sekiro, especially.) But this game world, once again, in sound and graphics, feels overwhelmingly alive. The forests, the swamps, the giant glowing trees, wind and ocean. All directly contrast with the souls "armies of undead" aesthetic. Don't get me wrong, the decay is very much there. But it feels like the world is not fighting against death, but instead some kind of rebirth. Like the world is being born fresh and anew and the antagonists of this game will be a force fighting against that. Very similar to the old games, but also ever so distinctly different. I'm looking forward to it.
I disagree about the protagonistes. It feel more like it taking the opportunity of this rebirth to take what it believe is due to him. He is a tarnished. He will take this opportunity to not be one anymore, to himself reborn anew
I think you're pretty close. But, the larger theme of Dark Souls isn't really about fighting against death. The world of Dark Souls is where the antagonist of the games actually *succeeded* in stopping the world from being born fresh and anew. Yes, the world is decaying, but not in a struggle against entropy/death. It's because the old and prevailing order isn't allowed to die and the new isn't allowed to be born.
Zullie your sense of wonder at these games is something we should all take notes from. Sometimes we need to just sit back and appreciate the beautiful world FromSoft created
When I started playing elden ring, and saw the enemies all across the lands between, my mind immediately started filling with the lore implications, from the creatures of each kingdom sprawling out to distant areas, to the erdtree avatars guarding most of the minor erdtrees, all of it has so much meaning behind it and made it feel like a truly living fantasy setting to me, and this too, really showing just how amazing all of the designs are, it's so wonderful. Then I see people complaining about reused assets and it absolutely baffles me, I honestly feel like most of them just want to hate on Elden Ring purely for being as popular as it is. Imagine if it was any other form of media, a fantasy setting filled with fantastical creatures of all shapes and sizes, and people complain that there is more than one of them in the entire world, like what in god's name are you even talking about? Idk man, I just don't see how people are incapable of appreciating how truly amazing the whole experience is.
Yeah man there's like 24 CLASSES of weapons in Dark Souls 3. People complaining "oh the spear thrust is the same!!" Can you imagine how much time and money it would take to just recreate just for the sake. I'd half understand it if the animations in previous games were bad but were they ever?!
@@NickHunter I swear to god, the thing the really bothers me about re-using assets it's the audio files. It feels so cheap to ear the exact death sound again. Or the exact hit sound. I understand the animations, it is reasonable, but reusing audio is what drives me bonkers
@@giulioceresini1435 while I agree, and was hoping we'd at least get a remastered version of the old sound effects - I suppose they're there to bring familiarity to the player. The sounds are so engrained in our minds now that we know exactly how to react to everything happening just based on the sound design.
@@NickHunter it's because considering how vastly diff all souls games animations were minus maybe partying and then senior on top of that. It feels noticeable that and not to mention first boss is literally a reskinned gyobu from sekiro.
The thing I love about From's designs is the fine mix between realism and grotesque. While the western games graphics is always striving for a pure realism, japanese visual is somewhere on the edge: wrinkles and hairs are well-drawn, body proportions are observed, but at the same time there is a slight exaggeration, like elongated limbs, giving fabulousness and uniqueness.
I dunno, I feel that it is just a dark fantasy setting, now the issue more western artists or artists in general has is that many does not like doing imperfect being or worlds, remember if you look at a lot of other games from Japan or anywhere else everyone is very perfect in their looks. And I know that Miyazaki specifically has gone in and gotten the art department to make things a little more imperfect and more faded. Like with some of the undead dragons he said tone down the grotesque, and think more of a faded beauty, like the dragon was once this magnificent beast and now this is all that remains of it
Such a strange feeling when you can go from goats grazing in a grassy fiend, birds perched in trees and cliffs, to eldritch octopi on the beach, colossus golems and giants, and dragons all a few steps away from one another. Such a drastic change from the constant bleak outlook of Dark Souls or Demon Souls, balancing the reality of being in a decayed world, but its not completely, there's life in one form or another.
*Headcanon* Zullie, a very curious scientist. She observes the creatures that live in the Lands Between and writes down everything about them in her journal.
I was taken aback a little when I saw the crabs in promotional materials, but the game has so much more. Nothing wrong in reusing assets when they work well and fit perfectly once you give them a new coat of paint. I mean, the little flame on the points of grace is literally a recolored humanity ghost.
"...A certain kind of refinement, elegance and dignity are very important to me.... It's a little hard to describe if you were to ask me, 'Well, what do you mean by dignity?'... My idea of dignity is something I pursue with every project I work on, not just Dark Souls." -Miyazaki In Miyazaki games, even the dung is dignified (4:30)
I never understood that complaint. From has been reusing rats, dogs and more since Demon's Souls, but now it suddenly is a problem. To me this has always been an Advantage, because it means A) they get to improve upon previous mistakes and B) it leaves more time for new assets to be created.

The narrative spin seems to be that this world is very much alive and in process of dying or was heavily altered, rather than already dead like in Dark Souls. I haven't read much of Berserk but as far as i understand FromSoft draws heavy inspiration from it. The gigantic tree seems to be connected to Berserk's tree which grew when the world of fantastical collided with the somewhat normal world of Berserk. I wonder if that's it's significance here as well.
I'm holding out hope for a spell or white branch equivalent that allows us to mimic wildlife, even if it only grants the stationary animations. Would be great ambush material for invading players.
Animation has always been fromsoft's strong suit (obviously, it's required to make the bosses as good as they are) but somehow i feel like they're seriously upping their game here. everything shown here really has a living, breathing quality to the way they move; especially agheel.
I had MH:W vibes seeing agheel look around, and MH:W is really high quality when it comes to animated monsters that seem to interact with their environment.
@@merouln700 I wouldn't go that far but there really is some quality animation. Monster Hunter, especially World is on a whole another level with both creature and world design.
My *one* criticism from seeing this footage, is the idle animation of the bats. It's extremely weird for them to just hover in one spot at the exact same height barely above the ground. It has a big 'MMORPG enemy mob' feel. Ideally, they would idle by constantly moving around, wildly swooping between ground-level and ~30 feet in the air. Then transition into this more predictable movement when they spot the player.
This game looks so good, like I know the Des remake was a technical masterpiece but when you take a more wholistic look at from's work you really see how Elden Ring is a refinement and advancement on previous games. The level of detail on everything is so intricate and intentional and there really isn't anything quite like the art and gameplay fromsoft puts out into the world.
I always love these-it's nice to just see enemies (and just general creatures like the turtle and eagles etc) go about their day and see them....at peace and not trying to outrun or outstab them. And I also love getting to see the details of them, like the armor in general, the muck in the skeletons ribcages, the head of Agheel with it's very specific snout(i didnt expect his head to look so much like it's made for fishing, which fits with the enviroment and i love it), the jellyfish being reflective, the stone in the giants which I never noticed and just the off way the horse of the black knight is walking I can't wait for the full game; I can just see all the little things waiting to be noticed by everyone as per usual
This might've been said like a 100 times before but elden ring is like ds2 II the aesthetic, the enemy variety and some of the spells feel really reminiscent of ds2. I personally loved ds2 so I'm all up for it
@@yusgrk3928 DS2 was a mixed bag for me, but it really felt like all the good ideas were getting completely scrapped in DS3, which was a shame. It's good to see a lot of the DeS and DS2 legacy in Elden Ring.
A lot in this game is reminiscent of Dark Souls II. It feels like they took the ambitious ideas that they couldn't realise in that game and attempted to bring them to life a second time.
An idea from ds2 that would fit a lot in Elden Ring, so big and complex, is ascetics... A normal "new game plus" cycle would be very time consuming i think
I love that the kraken beak ball thing on the beach reminds me so much of the unfinished Moon Presence boss in the Bloodborne chalice dungeons. It’s really nice to see them take an idea from cut content and give it another shot.
I love the art direction, its a mix between the classic ds3 style and breath of the wild, with some enemy designs like bloodborne and just overall awesome fantasy stuff
The artistic section of Elden Ring is sublime. I'm impressed by the level of detail on almost all the monsters, but especially the dragons and the giant bats, it's fascinating.
I can already tell, this game is going to become one of, if not my all time favourite game ever made. The amount of love Fromsoft put into this game is clear as day. For an open world game, this is unbelievable work done by a company not known for their open world, a world type that is very difficult to pull off. I'm not even sure if this is their first ever open world game, is it? Because if so, that is extremely impressive.
The trolls look tree-like, with their "guts" being roots wrapped around a box or sarcophagus and their hair growing out of their skin like branches. I wonder if the trolls are arcane man made constructs rather than naturally born. I wonder what happens if you can hit the box with an arrow or aimed spell, probably nothing but it'd be cool if it's like an extra weakpoint.
@@dirckthedork-knight1201 yeah! maybe you bury a corpse in a stone box, with a seed or cutting of the Erdtree planted in its heart. The new troll grows out and around the box which protects the corpseheart inside. A way to reuse bodies of great warriors the Golden King lost in battle (since the trolls wield swords)… or as a punishment to turn traitors/cowards into useful tools if you consider the body need not be dead before you seal it in the box.
It's kind of astonishing how incredibly well the FromSoftware art direction conceals the generally muddy textures. You never notice. Obviously the camera distance plays a part in this but still... nice work.
It's funny that along with all these bizarre creatures typical in these games, there is also just some regular creatures like turtles and bears in here haha. It feels Earthly. The crabs also feel like they fit in the world but also don't? Uncertain.
I love how much here is inspired my real life nature this time around. It not only makes the world feel more "real" because now we have pretty natural open areas but it also makes the weird enemies stand out as they just look more freaky in this very normal looking enviorment. And yet they still don't feel out of place somehow. Since every game they manage to make enemies fit into the world around it perfectly and still create unique designs and it amazes me every single time. Dark Souls enemies, while tackling fantasy, were kinda looking like on a brink of death most of the time, especially in the third game. They were either hurt by the world or experiments and every living thing looks depressed and barely holding back the death of starvation or sickness. Demon's Souls enemies were mostly... demons so their design was mostly a surreal, still inspired by classical fantasy but also very weird and just unknown. Bloodborne enemies were purely nightmare'ish. They attacked almost every base phobia and were inspired by both classic and more modern horror and were getting "worse" the deeper we went into the game. Sekiro was purely eastern game with inspirations from chinese, japanese and korean cultures, maybe even more that I can't really tell right now. Designs were mystical and magical, but also disturbing and "ugly" , less crazy cthulu horror based, but more around the pure fear of death and things that are connected to it (rotting corpses, bugs in flesh, horribly mutilated bodies) And Elden Ring enemies are natural (especially the not agressive ones) and those agressive ones just feel like they are holding some type of secret. They really well represent the feeling of unknown journey and exploration that the game enchances like even more because of its open fields and endless lands. There is less sadness, depression or disturbance but more intrigue and they really make your head fill with questions like those ball snakes, giants, weird living statues... FS always knows how to make a good impression with its visual design.
Its like looking at a painting. A Painted World... One of the most Important things that the Painter girl had stated in the Painting of Ariandel is that *"Those who are captivated by the Fire MUST NOT paint a world.".* My thoughts elude on what kind of meaning does this quote convey to me.

I'm so so sorry Zullie but I can't watch any of your Elden Ring content until I've played the game myself. I'll come back for all of it once the game comes out though!
I hadnt been able to get a good look at the Black Knight at 6:03 so thanks for that. Theres something unsettling about the horse just being draped in cloth like that. Reverse Ringwraith vibes
Whooa those are some crazy Jelly Fish, they really went above and beyond programming them. They literally produce warped images of other Jelly Fish that float behind them how cool is that?
If you're curious how I was able to get close to the enemies without them attacking me, it's because I was an enemy myself. Elden Ring will support limited cross-platform play, so Meowmaritus summoned me as a red phantom on an Xbox One copy of the Network Test and I went around taking passive pictures of about as much as I could reach.
Thanks for the info. Textures looked lower than I'd seen so makes sense it is Xbox One
Awesome work. After watching this video, I can clearly see that the vibe of this game is very much different from any of the other Souls titles. The world feels so lively, which is a great change of pace from the dilapidated and decaying worlds of past Fromsoft games.

I guess when your average Souls "knight" is more beast than man, having them in a nature documentary is quite fitting.

Ahem, I think you mean K***ht

Interesting to note that we now have TWO annoying dog enemy types to watch out for-the fast, rabid type from Bloodborne/DS3, and the more cunning pack hunters from Sekiro.

Ds3 had the most varied bestiary out of any FS game before ER came out, so I don't really see how and why you would "especially" feel this way about Ds3.

All of the D's games shared assets, heck call of duty reuses lots of assets

In answer to the thumbnail: People want to find any excuse to shit on a game, franchise or developer they don't like.

One of the most underrated things I'm loving about Elden ring, is that there's music for just roaming the open world. What they composed here is amazing, and it adds so much to the mystery of the world with such an eerie, but inviting first track!
@@eviljoel is this the first time you've seen a from software game?
@@eviljoel Most of the Souls games don’t have background music aside from boss fights.
I can only think of a few areas in Bloodborne and DS1 that actually have music for the area and it’s not a boss fight. So to have it while wandering the world is a nice addition.

Then there's Genshin
@@thatrainbowquickie8395 Yeah, unfortunately.
Japanese graphics are anime 9 times out of 10. The From style is really unique and bizarrely reminds me of an old strategy game Disciples II.
@@thatrainbowquickie8395 Genshin Impact is a Chinese game though

It's actually nice to see that good part of elden ring's fauna is not half-dead like in DS series.
I fuckin love that statue boss that moves and attacks super stiffly. Makes the fight so much more creepy and memorable.
@@domagojgalekovic8507 RIGHT. Like MH has a team solely to study animals to get a more lively animation from each monster.
This game looks so good, like I know the Des remake was a technical masterpiece but when you take a more wholistic look at from's work you really see how Elden Ring is a refinement and advancement on previous games. A lot in this game is reminiscent of Dark Souls II. It feels like they took the ambitious ideas that they couldn't realise in that game and attempted to bring them to life a second time.

I can already tell, this game is going to become one of, if not my all time favourite game ever made. The amount of love Fromsoft put into this game is clear as day. I'm not even sure if this is their first ever open world game, is it? Because if so, that is extremely impressive.
The trolls look tree-like, with their "guts" being roots wrapped around a box or sarcophagus and their hair growing out of their skin like branches. 7:37 I really like almost everything about that armor set, spear, and shield. The only exception is the helmet
Designs were mystical and magical, but also disturbing and "ugly" , less crazy cthulu horror based, but more around the pure fear of death and things that are connected to it (rotting corpses, bugs in flesh, horribly mutilated bodies)
And Elden Ring enemies are natural (especially the not agressive ones) and those agressive ones just feel like they are holding some type of secret. They really well represent the feeling of unknown journey and exploration that the game enchances like even more because of its open fields and endless lands. There is less sadness, depression or disturbance but more intrigue and they really make your head fill with questions like those ball snakes, giants, weird living statues...
