    Hi Gary, thanks for all your efforts. We have two Lectric XPeak step through bikes. Was able to tune out most of the wobble on my bike by tuning the suspension. I was carrying 10 lbs in rear. I'm 185 lbs but my wife at 125 lbs has a real problem with wobble having 8 lbs on the rear rack. I solved some of her wobble which occur at 8mph by stiffening up the suspension but we don't feel the bike is safe. Called Cane Creak and they recommended the Hellbender 70 Visco top only. Ordered one for each bike and we will see how it works. Will keep you posted. Just subscribed, please keep up the good work. Also called Lectric and customer service says they know about the problem but have no idea when it will be addressed. I have always found them to be very responsive but I not willing to wait. Hope this works.

    Ordered an XPeak step-through, but then became aware of the wobble issue. It would be wonderful if the headset dampener also works on the Step Thru. I'll be watching your channel closely to find out. Congrats and thanks to the genius inventor of the Hellbender.

    You just became my hero! I have a RadMini with dual Tesla batteries, and when I carry a load on the back I get a mild oscillation like this. My Experience: No wobble on the Step-Thru with Hellbender Dampener. Read on for details.
    After watching this video I decided to take a chance and install the Hellbender Dampener on my brand new Xpeak Step Thru. I did this immediately upon receiving the bike. The dampener was installed by my local bike shop.
    Just now I did a test drive with the dampener installed. I mounted a rear basket (5 lbs) and carried 36 lbs of rocks. This weight was in addition to the pre-installed rack on the back of the bike. Important notes: I did not use any front basket because I don't have one on hand. Maybe the results would have been different with weight in the front. Also, I would not recommend carrying that amount of weight on any bike. It gets pretty unstable and tippy, especially with the weight up high in the basket.
    I rode throttle only, PAS 5, and got up to 20mph. I experienced virtually no wobble. There were some moments when I thought I detected a slight wobble, but they seemed to be short lived and tolerable.
    Spex: Cane Creek Hellbender 70 Visco, Top Assembly, ZS44/28.6/H13.5, Mid Tune, Model BAA2187K. Thanks to whoever invented this gizmo !

    You have a good point about the slime and flat out causing a little wobble in the bike.

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_ 4 місяці тому +1

      Yea i have noticed this too, with flat out. It can really depend on the tires. If they have a lightweight side wall, its easier for them to wobble it seems. But if you have good tires, you shouldn’t feel the flat out. For example I had a lot of problems with flat out in Vee speedsters, but Arisun Big Snoothy 26 work fine. Make sure its the sportsman formula, its more runny, The multi purpose stuff is more clumpy.

      I got rid of my chain ring & chain & bought a new pair of diamond cut crank arms hanging down with the cadence sensor disconnected. The saddle is as low as it goes & I ride it as a slow speed motorcycle with no problem. It's a fat tire 20" folding bike & at my age, I got a block & a half with pedaling only so what's the point of ghost pedaling & your feet will hit the ground on 1 side at least I would think.

    good luck with the step thru. you feel that thing bend and flex behind your seat in addition to the vibration impacting the steering.

    might be something to consider for my step over though.

    • @GarysE-BikeAdventures
      @GarysE-BikeAdventures  4 місяці тому

      I would rather have a step through, but I ordered this in a step over because they all flex I was hoping with the mountain bike rating that it wouldn’t, but I knew in my heart that it would I have five step throughs they all have the same problem with the flex not wobbling though one did have a wobble, but I put a steering damper for a motorcycle on it I think this is a much better fix than having that ugly thing on the bike

    • @cellsafemode
      @cellsafemode 4 місяці тому +1

      @@GarysE-BikeAdventures flex, sure. I'd expect some too. the xpeak seems to resonate though... with the frame vibration just building on top of itself making tiny vibrations become much larger and extend for a longer time. mimicking speed wobble.
      a headset damper might kill the resonance. might not. Will be interesting to see for those willing to test.
      i don't see enough qualities in the step thru xpeak to want to hold on to it that hard vs return it. and it still will have front wheel clearance issues that would require playing with the fender to deal with on top of whatever remaining flex issues even if the damper gets wobble under control.
      I'd rather cut my losses and get a better designed bike that can do what it's advertised to do and what i need it to do.

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_ 4 місяці тому +1

      @@cellsafemode good points, while i applaud 👏 the fix Gary has found- i still think…. You shouldn’t have to buy a 100usd headset to fix a design flaw of the bike. Lectric should be thanking Gary for doing their testing for them! I would be interested to see if it fixes the wobble on the step through. I don’t think lectric is going to put a 100usd headset on the bike anytime soon though, maybe they should R&D their own anti wobble headset. Or just design a non wobbling bike in the first placewould be best. But I’m glad that headset solved the problem and Gary is able to ride his bike.

      I have an XPedition also and put probably 30 pounds on the back of that and I’ve never had a problem, but I also don’t have the factory forks on it. I have a suspension fork on it.

      Dumb question, but have you checked the head nut on that make sure it’s tight because those things are notorious for being loose and if it was loose, you could’ve lost bearings because the bearings just float in there

      Like I said, I’ve never experienced the wobble on that bike. The guy may have a loose headset those bikes were notorious for having them too loose. I’ve had mine apart so many times I know it’s fine. 😀 it’s honestly one of my favorite bikes. It’s definitely my favorite 20 inch bike.

    My two locks, tools, first aid kit, trunk bag and grocery panniers weigh more than 20lbs (the chain lock itself weighs 12lbs). None of my bikes or e-bikes wobble with that kit put on them. That’s before anything gets loaded in the grocery panniers.
    It’s unacceptable for an adventure bike like the XPeak, which is marketed as being sturdy and able to carry quite a bit of cargo at up to 28mph, to not be able to carry that amount.

    Does this work with a basket on the front?

    • @GarysE-BikeAdventures
      @GarysE-BikeAdventures  2 місяці тому

      I guess it depends on the weight you’re carrying, people have told me they’re running both baskets and have no problem. The only time I had a problem was when I had some good weight on the bike, but I have not experienced it since putting this on, but I have not run the front basket since I do run the rear. Hope this helps.

      If you have the step over, you may not have the problem at all and many people with the step through. Don’t experience the problem. Most of it is because of weight on the baskets. And quite honestly, you won’t even feel the wobble unless you ride with no hands on the handlebar.

      So to tell you the truth, I talk with creators all the time. I’m not in a position where they’re giving me bikes yet I can get a discount usually about 30%. so I was going to buy it but I didn’t know what it was when I saw it this morning I said a 20 inch bike from electric for over $2000 I’ll pass I don’t care if it’s got a belt drive or not. What happens if your ghost peddling with the belt drive you’re stuck in their world at that point Lectric is entry-level bikes I don’t think anybody that wants to spend $2200 or if you get the long long range batteries probably gonna be in the $2500 range maybe they put it out in a 24 inch bike that would’ve made it more interesting.
