the 2001 galant will always have a special place in my heart. my father had one of these (albeit the straight 4 because we didn't have v6 money), that he bought new in 01, not long a fter i was born. so, i grew up in one of these. i was brought to some of my first days of school in those back seats. when we'd go get haircuts together, and mom didn't come with us, i got to sit in the front seat. he had an aftermarket sound system that he put in it and we listened to music loudly. since he had one of those magnetic flashlights, he'd mount it to the hood and i'd watch him work on it. eventually he got new cars (08 lancer he got from my mom in ~2016, and then a 2016 ford explorer sport he got in 2019), but the galant always felt the most... him. anyways, my parents split up in 2020 and my father moved to an apartment a few towns over. he passed last year, with that galant sitting in my mother's driveway, and i made sure i got the car. i didn't want his other more expensive things, i wanted that galant. and while i'm 1,400 miles away from home right now, it's in my mother's new house waiting for me. because the crazy thing is... after all these years, it still fires right up. no matter how long it sat there, and what happened to it. for that, it reminds me of him. i really do think it was the perfect car for him. it's amazing to me, the bonds we can have with cars. and how a 2 ton collection of metals, rubbers, and glass can feel so... human- if you're willing to listen to it. do me a favour, and hug your folks while you got them.
Keep that car alive. I kinda got a story like that too, actually with this car. I got this one right after I got into a accident, my first accident too. with the first car being a 4 cylinder. It was a total. That car tho saved my life, as I was able to walk away, no injuries. From that point on, I have really loved this car, cause it protected me and did it's job perfectly. It provided for me in my times of need,(most importantly moved me and my mom from our childhood house with this car)never failed, and had given me so much knowledge on cars, how they work, and really got me into cars in general. My mom has also always been there when it gave problems, and has always helped cause she knows how much this car means to me. So it kinda reminds me of her as well. These are good cars, and I want to be that good owner for it. It totally deserves it, bottom line. Espically because when I got this, the previous owner was really starting to treat it like shit, even with it's low Miles, obviously it really did not deserve it. That's where I come in.
I gt a sweet deal on my v6, bt please understand that v6 come with some headaches like being an interference engine! 😩. Lets jus say, me gtn n2 the auto mechanic business, the importance of timing belt maintenance is sadly under rated til its ur bill.
Hello All, I am the owner of this car. It nice to finally see current info with this that dose not require me to search really hard to find, if not find at all. Being a older car, forums for this are pretty much dead, so any known issue's from owners of these cars, past or present(if there are any) are good to hear. Tho, Zach it was a pleasure doing this review with you!. It was a blast!. Keep up the great content!
I had a 2000 Galant ES V6 in 2013. It was the first car that I and my (then) girlfriend purchased. Unfortunately, late maintenance killed it a little over a year into ownership... Between this and the base model 2012 Sonata we had in 2015, this is still the car I miss more
I wish my friend still had the 92 Galant VR-4! It was a MONSTER, he had a bunch of mods on her... big 16g, injectors, upgraded intercooler, so on... It's crazy they only brought 3,000 of them to the states and that was it!
I miss Mitsubishi from the 90s and 2000s. Maybe you could review their all new outlander and see if it’s a big improvement over what they’ve been doing lately.
Man I really miss my GTZ had a bunch of jdm bits a 3g eclipse manual swap evo 8 brembos and enkie wheels eibach lowering springs braided steel brake lines it would gap bugeye wrxs and actually gave a run against a 2015 wrx and was impressed that it still kept up.
This video will now be a tribute and call back to my baby. Today, June 20th 2024, marks her last designated visit to the repair shop, as today she has been designated "not pass compliment of next inspection" So with that said, I will miss this car greatly. She will be forever archived in this video. service date: 2001-2024 reason of decommission: frame rot To Zach, thank you for a glowing review on her. Im glad she will always be videoed in a positive light.
The Galants sold in my country had the upgraded rear seats with 3 head rests, tail lights, fog lights, and the digital climate control. Also a larger rear spoiler was available. They were around for so many years.
This and the 1st gen rx7 are my favorite cars EVER. i absolutely love 8th gen galants. I had 2 at the same time, a 2000 es 4 cyl and i have a 2003 galant gtz I've owned for 5 years. I always loved how they looked, so when i could buy my 1st car thats what i bought. It has over 200k miles now and still purrs like a kitten
You know there is absolutely so much stunning angles of this Galant , yes sadly it is a total piece mechanical and trim/paint .. but man I really miss how good Mitsubishi really once was as well ! Hey even I was willing to give my left(n_t) to get a Eclipse GT . Haha thanks for the review !
This was probably the 2nd car I drove before, the first being my late grandma’s 93 Corolla that we still have. My mom had a 2000 in that unpleasant brownish gold color. I have many memories such as being dragged church, clothes shopping, going to school with my mom in her car. Her awkward braking and the scent of many different perfumes and other female product scents always gave me and my siblings a headache. It was the 4 banger with the es package so it had decent stuff on it such as lit sun visor mirrors. It was my mom’s daily and often worked jobs 20-25 miles from home for one way. I remember going with my dad to rescue her a couple of times, one she had a flat tire on the side of the freeway around 11 at night. Another time the battery died at her newer job which was caretaking for an old farmers wife. She came home in the farmer’s new GMC Yukon that night. What a guy! My dad was taught to drive as a child around 10 and loved cars. He didn’t hesitate do the same to me. I don’t really remember driving the car that much but it was probably a short distance up the driveway or round the block. It was much more peppy than our 93 Corolla in which we still have today. I was probably around 11 years old. Then my dad decided to add a sound system around 2014 and change the probably well overdue trans fluid. The car didn’t last much longer as my dad was at a stop light, the car stopped accelerating like it was in neutral. Towed home by wrecker, sat in front of the house, home owner association complained about it in our driveway, moved it into the garage, then my dad wanted garage space for the working cars and sold it to the junkyard for some $50 I think. The car probably had 230,000 miles. It wasn’t my favorite car but looking back I kinda miss it. It would have been super cool if it were the v6 but it also would’ve burnt the transmission out faster. My mom explained that she tried to pass a Camry on a freeway entrance but then the Camry driver gave it the beans and walked away. I explained to her that Camrys have v6’s. She thinks that car was much stronger than our current 2015 Cruze which has not been the most pleasant.
Still daily driving my 2002 2.4L Galant. I have almost owned it for almost 10 years. It was my first car. Bought it at 133k miles for $1500 and now has near 230k miles. Hasn't had any real issue ever. Just common maintenance stuff. Alternator, coil packs, brakes, tires, etc. I do not have a light foot and beat on the thing almost daily. She has a good amount of power and is fun to drive and is very manuverable. No matter how much I abuse the thing it just takes it. Super solid car. I also own a 2003 Galant that i keep for a backup (though have never needed it) I guess eventually I may switch to that and use the 2002 as a parts car. Well that was the plan once the 2002 begins to have a serious issue (engine or transmission) but I never thought it would even last this long but still continues to drive strong today and shows no signs of giving up anytime soon. Every morning just turn the key and she fires up no hesitation and gets me to my desination and back home. The thing has never left me stranded or ever had to be towed or pulled home.
Had one for 7 years manual tough and a 2.0 litre, no issues at all! drove frome 140k to 360k, then clutch and gearbox whent down. One downside is the ticking hydraulic valve lifter, but never fails..
Man keep that Galant long as you can a keep it waxed and detailed to save paint job those v6 models are rare and can keep up with maxima and diamante easily I can't believe Mitsubishi discontinued galant it's a shame Mitsubishi gave up on all the stylish fly models
If you can find one, please review the '87-'92 generation of the Gallant, maybe just a regular model with the automatic transmission. All the reviews of that Gallant I see on UA-cam are of the VR-4 or the AMG. Speaking of late 90's, this body style of Gallant was new for 1999.
I had a 01 Galant identical to this one but burgundy in color. Bought it used in 03 with 34k on it. Drove it until 2016,when I sold it with 156k on it and still running strong. New owner ran it dry of oil after only a few months of ownership and blew it up. I should’ve kept it as a backup vehicle. I’m sure it would still be on the road and running good if I still owned it.
You forgot to mention that the center console/arm rest opens on a 180-degree angle and has cup holders molded for rear passengers which I found very useful in mine
Our family had this exact year and spec just in that gorgeous red color and the tan cloth. Bought it at 100k and drove it til about 160k when the engine started to blow out the top end. Most trouble free car though for only $3k. And this was back in ‘09!
This was going to be my first car but instead for a Mitsubishi eclipse GTS in Red! Super mint for the year, unfortunately someone hit me on the freeway.
I read that Mitsubishi is planning to bring back the Lancer and EVO. however, the Lancer has grow so much in size during the late models that probably is already occupying the place of the Galant. Unless they make the Galant a full size car, but then they wouldn't be as much as fun as the older Galants.
Got my 2000 galant GTZ at 51k miles in 2018 Still driving with some regular maintenance. Sadly my mechanic told me the rust is getting scary and most parts are rotting. I got turned away from a oil change place because they were scared about liability. Trying to keep it on the road as long as i can
Yay you think these are cool. I've always loved this year model of the Mitsubishi Galant. It doesn't beat the old school VR4 but it's looks way cooler then the newer body style.
I assume Mitsubishi fell off because nobody bought their products. You can say their products were good all you want but if it's not profitable a company won't make it. And tbh the Outlander and Outlander Sport look pretty nice. The new ones. And the Mirage is at least a somewhat affordable car. And tbh I dont hate it or anything but objectively the Galant wasn't cool at all for most people. Same thing with Lancers. If it was they were, they would still be around today.
The 2004 Galant wasn't really updated much by its final year in 2012. Within that time the Camry had been redesigned twice. And the Accord was already due for a redesign by the end of the 2012 model year. Without updates it couldn't stay competitive. Add to that the fact that they were struggling financially.
Interesting to note just how different the US Galant was from the EU/Japanese Galants. Dash and gauges are completely different and much simpler-looking in the US version, front suspension is also different I think, V6 EU models had the 2.5 6A13 with the Invecs 4-speed tiptronic-style automatic (or manual). Having driven both, the EU version was fancier, not sure why the US got the watered-down version.
The front suspension is entirely different too. Its coz the US market galant was built in the Illinois plant (DSM) which also is the plant which produces Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger coupe, which shares under underpinning with the galant/eclipse.
After dec 1999 models had a tiptronic (mine is 2000 February). Eudm/Jdm are completely the same. The usdm really is completely different. Even the pre 2000 4 speed auto is another one if i remember correctly. And ive never seen the 6A13 in any other car than a 8th gen EUDM/JDM galant
Having Chrysler deliver the transmission and Mitsubishi the engine was putting both parties in charge of they were weak at. Had this used a Chrysler 3.5 and a Japanese transmission, that could have made for one fast sedan for it's day.
In Trinidad, we call them Sharkmouth, because it looks like a shark. We mostly get the Japanese version, but I've seen the American version which is lefthand drive a few times. The American version is ugly because of the huge bumpers and slightly different design lights
this Galant was called Galant Shark in my country (edit: it was nicknamed Galant Shark, rather) it has gotten so rare over the years, but unfortunately, this isn't a desirable car here.
no analog odometer though. I wish it didn't have woodgrain. I need cloth seats as I dislike vinyl or leather and really sad to hear about good cloth seats not being made anymore.
Great review and 100 % righr on Mitsubishis current state is sad. Owned a 90 tsi awd, 92 gvr4, 2g exlipse, man what fun cars. Today the eclipse is an abomination of a vehicle and the brand is a lost cause.
Sorry to say, but the USDM Galant is nothing like the OG Galant from EUDM/JDM parts of the world. The body is different, the engine options are different and the interior is different. I hate the looks of a USDM Galant, and love the looks of a EUDM Galant. I own 2 Galants at this very moment (I mean, there is even one as my profile pic here on YT), and love those cars!
Usdm galants arent the thing dude. Try to find a EUDM or a JDM. I myself have a EUDM 2.5 V6. But you will instantly notice why you will want a EUDM/JDM instead of a USDM. Have no problems sending some pics and stuff if y want.
@@derpmaniak7823 in Norway we mostly got them with a 136hp naturally aspirated 4G63, I had a 1997 wagon, best car I've ever owned. Sadly we hit an elk while on vacation in Sweden, roof caved and A-pillars got bent pretty bad so had to send it off to the junk yard...
Mitsubishi used to make sports cars and had partnered with Chrysler such as making the Colt for Dodge/Plymouth. Now they only make cheap cars. One reviewer said a few years ago that the Mitsubishi Mirage is the worst cheap car you can buy.
The USDM yes. And actually no even the usdm is awesome apart from the tranny. The EUDM and JDM which are basically the same (even built in the same plant) are the thing to look for. Google stuff about em; look up pics and you will know why.
the 2001 galant will always have a special place in my heart.
my father had one of these (albeit the straight 4 because we didn't have v6 money), that he bought new in 01, not long a fter i was born. so, i grew up in one of these. i was brought to some of my first days of school in those back seats. when we'd go get haircuts together, and mom didn't come with us, i got to sit in the front seat. he had an aftermarket sound system that he put in it and we listened to music loudly. since he had one of those magnetic flashlights, he'd mount it to the hood and i'd watch him work on it.

Mitsubishi should have built one last VR-4 galant for 2012 as the going away limited spec before they discontinued the galant in 2012

More stylish than the Camry, Accord, and Altima of the era. The old Mitsubishi is missed.

Such a good looking sedan, especially the front. I liked these when they came out.
Before the days when everyone bought an SUV.
The styling still looks good 21 years later, very rare
@@saintsubie6661 This Galant and the 2000 Pontiac Bonneville are my favorite sedans of this era, both look great imo.
The EUDM/JDM looks even better. 8th gen. Galants look awesome in general.

The gtz was preety loaded and looked great. This ES is preety basic but it has a few options on it.
this was the car in the USA they used to desgin the 380 in Australia the ultimate long distance comfortable cruising car in Hot conditions.
If you can find one, please review the '87-'92 generation of the Gallant, maybe just a regular model with the automatic transmission. All the reviews of that Gallant I see on UA-cam are of the VR-4 or the AMG. Speaking of late 90's, this body style of Gallant was new for 1999.

Mitsubishi, I know you won't bring back the Eclipse, but have you ever thought of bringing back the Galant?

Mitsubishi is still badass, their new Monteros/Pajeros and the L200/Tritons are awesome. They need to bring back sporty sedans though
Got my 2000 galant GTZ at 51k miles in 2018
Still driving with some regular maintenance. Sadly my mechanic told me the rust is getting scary and most parts are rotting. I got turned away from a oil change place because they were scared about liability.

In the hood, we always saw the GTZ models in blue or that special purple. Too bad up here that rotted out and had massive reliability issues.
My dads green 2001 galant has power seats with the leather-ish material
Very good! Cool vid!
this Galant was called Galant Shark in my country (edit: it was nicknamed Galant Shark, rather) it has gotten so rare over the years, but unfortunately, this isn't a desirable car here.
no analog odometer though. I wish it didn't have woodgrain. I need cloth seats as I dislike vinyl or leather and really sad to hear about good cloth seats not being made anymore.
oh my God the shark Gallant, my dream car
'90s cloth seats hold in moisture odor and dirt.
I have one in California with jdm parts, I’m so close to making it look like a vr4 galant , or course I’m not upbadging
3.0l V6 195 HP. Honda Accord K24 engine 4 cilynder 200 HP
That silly bandz comment got me. It's almost like they simply vanished.. just like many models of Mitsubishi's in the US.
Great review and 100 % righr on Mitsubishis current state is sad. Owned a 90 tsi awd, 92 gvr4, 2g exlipse, man what fun cars. Today the eclipse is an abomination of a vehicle and the brand is a lost cause.
This is the car that the Vincent from GTA IV is based on
My first car was a 2000 Galant ES 4 cyl. Great car but it had issues
What kind of issues
@@lacitykid9224 driveshaft pulley gave out 2 times, emission sensor issues
Thank you
My 2001 gallant four-cylinder ES is misfiring at idle and low RPMs any suggestions?
@@lacitykid9224 mine had the same exact issue
It looks better than the camry
I always wondered how this car was like.
Sorry to say, but the USDM Galant is nothing like the OG Galant from EUDM/JDM parts of the world. The body is different, the engine options are different and the interior is different. I hate the looks of a USDM Galant, and love the looks of a EUDM Galant. I own 2 Galants at this very moment (I mean, there is even one as my profile pic here on YT), and love those cars!
front suspension is also different, with US spec have mchperson and the rest of the world got multilink front.
How much would you sell one of them for?
Mitsubishi needs to come out with a new 3000gt all wheel drive 2000ish pounds 500hp and they will be saved!
Good luck on that.
@@mvnorsel6354 I don’t care just saying it would save them lol
90s and 2000s automatic were nothing to write home about.
Buena presentación, bastante conservado
Maibatsu Vincent From GTA4
Almost bought one of these. Was not to be
Usdm galants arent the thing dude. Try to find a EUDM or a JDM. I myself have a EUDM 2.5 V6. But you will instantly notice why you will want a EUDM/JDM instead of a USDM. Have no problems sending some pics and stuff if y want.
Mitsubishi's demise was already in the process since the 1970s with its unreliable models like the Celeste (a.k.a. Plymouth Arrow).
the ralliart is the one to get
this is completely different from the european market Galant, especially the interior
Yes. I love my EA5A EUDM; EUDM is basicly same as JDM. The 2.5 6A13 is awesome too.
Sad to hear; but they arent expensive if you find some
@@derpmaniak7823 no they are cheap, but here in Norway almost all of them have rusted out
Yea they are here too. Lots of welding on my side.
Exelent cars
Good car I have one
Mitsubishi used to make sports cars and had partnered with Chrysler such as making the Colt for Dodge/Plymouth. Now they only make cheap cars. One reviewer said a few years ago that the Mitsubishi Mirage is the worst cheap car you can buy.
Cheap cars? Fully loaded outlanders are over 40k. And most their crossover suvs are all made in japan. You are clueless
Kia k5 resemble the front of the car.
is american version, no japan

A shame what Mitsubishi became...
Mitsubishi fell off quicker then silly bands and Kanye glasses 😂😂😂💀
They weren't cool in 2001.
These were the most BORRRRIIINNNNGGGGGG cars EVER ⚠️ Rental fleet favorite, and OMG the interior smell of these still reek in my head 🤢🤢
The USDM yes. And actually no even the usdm is awesome apart from the tranny. The EUDM and JDM which are basically the same (even built in the same plant) are the thing to look for. Google stuff about em; look up pics and you will know why.
Oh and by built in the same plant i meant the EUDM and JPN in J
